Pretty solid video w/ one exception - cleaning your barrel. My guess is her husband or father or brother got her into firearms to begin with. Half of these female instructional videos their male significant other is usually behind the camera basically trained them what to say and what they learned. I don't see my mom or my sister ever willingly learning guns on their own. Then they basically only get views to keep going because it's a good looking girl. @@jamillia53 Definitely oil it, never run it dry. Some pistols come with a lubricant on them, usually more for rust prevention. It's viscosity may or may not be great for operating. My HK came very oily. I wiped it down then re-oiled. Most of my pistols were dry when purchased new.
@@jamillia53 you should clean and oil it after every use to maintain it well. A good quality oil helps so much. Oil the rail contacts metal pieces that will rub, outside of the barrel. My firearms are immaculate because I clean and oil after every time I shoot with it
As a certified S&W armorer, thank you for showing the proper technique for the disassembly of these pistols! You should never “have to” pull the trigger on these to get the slide to separate from the frame. Very well done and educational to those newbies watching. Thank you!
Awesome video! I've been working with a neighbor from helping her to choose a handgun, gun safety, home safety and defense. She ended up with a S&W EZ. This is perfect for her and I'm sending it on to her. She asked me at our last range event about cleaning and I caved in and did it for her. Now she can clean her own. Im amazed you even kept the fingernail polish looking good!❤
Once again you had the perfect video I needed to see. I just cleaned my Shield Plus for the first time, following along with your video. I was actually more nervous about cleaning it the first time than I was shooting it the first time. So your thorough and easy to understand instructions were a huge help and comfort. Thanks so much!
Thank you for being so clear without a lot of jargon or gun terms I don't understand yet. I now feel confident I can clean my recently purchased S&W MP Shield 2.0.
I've watched a few of your video and you are very good at making your audience feel very comfortable, now I learned a lot about firing a gun, gun safety, and such but the one thing very few people tell you about is how to break down your weapon and clean it. I learned the hard way, but I'm thankful to you for sharing your knowledge with the rest of us.
I went to my first gun range and took a firearms class. You have no idea how helpful your videos were in educating me. Nope...I’ve been watching She Equips Herself. ☺️

Thank you. I don’t fire the gun too often and this was the first time I’ve cleaned it! Your video was super helpful in how you slowly went step by step for guys just like me!
Petroleum lubricants contain solvents to make the tar oil thin. Once applied, the solvents continue to evaporate causing the lubricant to thicken. Synthetic lubricants don't have this problem. I use synthetic machine oil on internal parts and synthetic bearing grease on the slide groves and slide wings.

I can field-strip darn near everything I own blindfolded but I still watch all your videos because they give me hope. You are a good influence. Love y'all. Semper Fi.
Compressed air is also a great way to clean any dust away from the firing pin. it's also great for dusting the factory particulates out of a new gun as well
I have found that when you are cleaning the barrel with the barrel brush then when you are ready to use the cleaning patch leave the brush on and wrap the cleaning patch around the brush dip it into solvent run in and out of the barrel till clean them wrap a new patch around the cleaning brush and put some oil run it in and out barrel cleaning done. I have had good luck with it over the years and it makes it fit more snug seems to do a good job. Try it and let me know what you think.
No That puts too much pressure on the bristles of the brush. The brush is designed to make contact with the barrel. Use the eyelets or the jag for using the patches.

Glad to see you made a point of holding the slide pointing down when cleaning to avoid getting gunk in the firing pin. I rarely see anyone mention it. I put a bit of white appliance paint on the sear pins on both my Shields - a gen 1 9mm and a gen 2 .40 - to make them a bit easier to see. They come from the factory painted yellow but that wore off pretty quickly. I've replaced the guide rods with stainless, put Apex triggers in, and put on Talon grips. I use the rubber ones - the sandpaper ones are awful. Other than that, they're both stock. I also have a gen 3 Glock 23, but it prints too much to concealed carry unless I'm wearing a jacket, and it's a tiny bit too big for my hand.
Hi - thanks for the video. I have been a hunter (mostly archery) since I was 12 years old (I am 59) but I have rarely shot handguns and have never owned them until now. Just picked up my first - an M&P shield plus. While reading and watching reviews I stumbled onto your youtube channel. Great job with the channel. I have owned my handgun for about one month and just purchased my first range ammo. I have been busy daily working on my dry firing drills, getting used to my holsters (I purchased two) and look forward to shooting my gun for the first time today at the range. I appreciate the tutorials! Keep it up!
I may have missed it but don’t forget to swab the clean barrel (inside and out) with an oiled patch. Plastic gun cleaning picks are also handy for pushing patches around in the slide and frame.
Great video, thanks! I wear nitrile gloves to keep the solvent and oil off my skin--makes clean up a snap without the lingering odor on my fingers. Also keeps my oily fingerprint marks off the finished clean parts.
Thank you so much! I've only used my M&P 9 Shield EZ once and didn't really have any idea how to clean it. I also wanted to thank you for all your videos. I have learned an amazing amount from you.

Great step by step video and very informative. I have the same gun, should I oil the recoil spring? My husband usually cleans my gun, but now that I am feeling a bit more confident and have taken the time to learn more about it, I would like to start cleaning my gun myself.
I have a recently purchased M&P EZ 9mm and M&P 22. Have taken them to the range a few times and now its time for cleaning. Thanks for the ez demo. I also just received my CCW. Hey Stav, it was refreshing to see a TH-cam gun cleaning vid that included pretty red nail polish! Also, great reminder about holding the slide so that no product gets into the firing pin housing. Yes, I think it would be cool to see a series of Mac's guns getting cleaned. And finally, you have my votes for the Gundies!
Thank you. I mentioned a few months ago that you should do this for your viewers so it's cool to know that you read the comments and did this video. Can't wait for more content.
Thank you! The cleaning instructions in my manual just weren't enough for me. I was afraid to remove the slide and do a proper cleaning of my gun, nervous about putting it back together right. I watched several videos. The close-ups, details, and simple terms you used were very useful and helped me clean my gun properly for the first time.
Great job!!! I switched to Ballistol and bore snakes years ago to same time and effort. End up taking several guns to the range and I do like to clean them afterwards.

Stumbled across this channel by accident. Watched the front sight focus. Very informative. And I like this video as well. Many other vids don't get as detailed as you get. Love it.
I really enjoyed your video. It was very informative and helpful. I’m a new gun owner and I have a m&p shield plus. I’m about to do my first cleaning and oiling before I shoot it for the first time. Thank you!!
I never heard about not dropping oil inside that little thing that make the gun go boom! (Learning terminology still) your video thaught me something like 10 other videos failed to mention! Thank you!
Be very careful when using solvents on polymer parts. I hope you're using a polymer-safe solvent. I had to learn from my own mistakes. I came from the Army, where we used CLP on everything. So naturally, when I got out, I trusted what I knew: big mistake, my Smith & Wesson 5.7 lower metaled! I no longer use solvents on any other parts than the Barrel & Slide or on a rifle, the Upper and barrel. But other than that very good video, 10 out of 10!
Very good demo on cleaning your pistol. I picked up a little extra knowledge for cleaning my guns. I still clean mine after every shooting session. I enjoy it while listening to talk radio.
I still love cleaning my gun... I think because my dad did it a lot when I was a kid. I find it very calming. In fact, if there is an ASMR video of someone cleaning their gun I would totally watch it! Thanks for the great content!
Just bought my very first firearm (first gen Shield just like you) and this video is so helpful! I'm excited to clean mine for the first time and now I feel like I'll know what I'm doing. Thank you!
Very good video! One thing you should change is that the barrel of the gun is rifled (spiraled groves), so you should use the handle on the cleaning rod so that the cleaning pad can spiral along the barrel.
Excellent video! I love how organized you are with your supplies & cleaning process. I always wear nitrile gloves when I clean mine so none of the lead or chemicals can absorb through my skin while I clean. The gloves serve to protect the manicure as well ;o) Thank you for another amazing video!
Thank you for this very clear, informative video. I just got an M&P Shield EZ and wanted to familiarize myself with the cleaning process. I needed the EZ because I have developed some arthritis in my hands and could no longer rack the slide on my LC9S Ruger. I do have difficulty pulling the slide back on the Shield and pushing up the slide lock at the same time. Thanks again!
Veryyyyyy helpful. Thank you Stav. I appreciate showing the solvent and oil you use. There are so many in the market. And I appreciate how safety focused you are. Awesomest. And yes.... I voted for you 👍

Thank you! I have a new Shield EZ - heard you need to clean all new guns before using. I'm SOOO very happy to have found your channel & that we're looking at the same gun! Tomorrow I'll get set up & watch it all over again & do mine!
I've seen many gun cleaning videos, everyone does it a bit differently. This is how it works for you and that's awesome. If you're getting few to no issues firing your weapon, it's clean enough. Good video. I'm a clean-a-holic so I go a bit further but that's just me lol.
Great job and well explained. The one thing that is true on most all cleaning of firearms is that when cleaning the barrel...Always push the cleaning rod from the breach area forward toward the mussel end of the barrel. Thanks for sharing...
I do like to wear nitrile / latex gloves to prevent any carbon, lead, and other dirt from getting on my skin. Great video and keep up the great content! 👍🏻
Thanks for your great videos, they are very informative for both women and men. I use a silicone gun cloth to wipe my firearms down after cleaning. They make them look like new and they are protected from moisture in any form. I used to use a rag just like the one used in this video but it left lint all over my pieces. Keep the great videos coming.
One characteristic which defines us as "adults" is knowing wen to b humble and listening to those who've been around much longer than we hav and who may have decades of valuable experience to share, and for all the right reasons. Although yor very young, there may be individuals younger or with less experience than you who are listening and taking yor advice. And being "casual" about smthng as serious as weapons handling and maintenance may cause them to make a costly mistake. Hang in there though, i think yor on the right track👍
My M&P Shield has a safety(CA) ...so it adds an extra "thing" in the way of the pin that needed to be pushed down. But you are the ONLY one who mentioned the safe way to push that pin down and release the slide...THANK YOU!
I actually have an MP9C. I've looked at the other videos and yours is the best. That little wire, you call the lever the other videos my reaction was HUH. My gun has about 1,000 rounds through it. Truth I was surprised how clean it still was. Not sure if I did something wrong, I actually did it several times trying to figure out why I could not remove the slide barrel assembly. I found I needed to pull the trigger to get it to go far enough forward to remove. Took me far longer than it will next time but, I got it clean and back together and working fine. Helpful from the factory. On mine there was yellow paint on the front of the spring and the slide making it obvious if say you did not pay attention to which end of the spring goes where. THANKS
What do you think of using a bore snake after each range session? Overkill? I also use nitrile gloves, but it can sometimes impair your dexterity. Great post! Keep ‘em coming!

It's good to see a woman out here educating others on how to be comfortable with owning, operating, and maintaining firearms. Best Regards Ma'am.
Thank you so much!
Agreed!
A bad looking good with a good tutorials wouldn't go as far. Then Women cry equal rights and double standards lol.
@@needler267 It is really unfortunate you had to turn this discussion of how great her content is into this. You sound like you've had some negative past experiences. I wish you luck.
@@needler267 I have no idea how you got those ideas, but I know several women that not only clean their own weapons, but 2 of them can strip an AR,or AK system perfectly well.
NEVER under estimate what a female can do,...it might get you a nasty surprise...
Thank you!! I'm a gun owning newbie, was always scared to get a gun because of having to clean it. I truly appreciate your videos and your taking the time to make them.
No need to fear :) Hope this gave you a bit of confidence! Thank you so much for watching!
@@SheEquipsHerself do you have to oil and clean a new firearm before you shoot it at the range for first time?
@@jamillia53 Definitely oil it, never run it dry. Some pistols come with a lubricant on them, usually more for rust prevention. It's viscosity may or may not be great for operating. My HK came very oily. I wiped it down then re-oiled. Most of my pistols were dry when purchased new.
@@fishfood8719 thank you for responding! I have a glock 43x and it seems very dry when i took it apart so ill purchase so oil.
Thank you!
Can you please explain why it is not good to pull the trigger to release the slide? Thank you in advance!
@@dpav02 BANG!!!
@@tennisguru6739 For no other reason, doing so is not included in the manufacturer's published procedure for disassembly.

I tested some guns and reached the same conclusion as you that the shield was so much easier with less kickback than some of the other ones. My friends said - wow, you know a lot. Nope...I’ve been watching She Equips Herself. ☺️
And now you can get the Shield Plus and upgrade to 13 rounds.
59 yr old female here. Just got my first gun a couple months ago. M&P S&W EZ 9mm Teal colored hehe. I wonna
cleaning kit like that. GREAT share!!!
Sweet!
Solvent, lube, pushing rod, some patches and q-tips is all you need. No need to waste money on these fancy kits. Get a 9mm kit from hoppes, will come with what you need other then the patches and q tips and cost about $12.
@@user-pz5ju7mw3k Thanks ☺️👍

Better than any of the men who have videos up of cleaning there Smith and wesson m&p, I am from Ireland and must admit I'm abit ocd when cleaning mine, but we'll done you, great job and a great well explained maintenance video 👏👍
I truly believe you are an actual blessing. There's a whole lot of newbies out there and there might even be some complacent types that can benefit from your message. I can field-strip darn near everything I own blindfolded but I still watch all your videos because they give me hope. You are a good influence. Love y'all. Semper Fi.
Compressed air is also a great way to clean any dust away from the firing pin. it's also great for dusting the factory particulates out of a new gun as well
I am 74. She is the best! I always watch her videos.
No
That puts too much pressure on the bristles of the brush. The brush is designed to make contact with the barrel. Use the eyelets or the jag for using the patches.
Love watching your cleaning video. Great job. I will send it to my lady friend who has a S&W MP Shield and is learning how to clean it.
Just found your channel…as a woman i find it refreshing to see women that uses guns…educate others in the use and knowledge they have to help others…especially me being a woman and i just bought my first gun…i appreciate it that you are passing your skills onto me and other women that might feel intimidated by a man teacher…ty so much for your channel…i look forward to learning alot of skills and tips from you…❤
Thank you for taking your time to show us how to clean our shield. You were very clear with your instructions.
Keep it up!
Very helpful and thorough. I bought a Shield and put it on my permit. I'm looking forward to doing a few upgrades including the trigger. Thank you.
Charlie-You are clear, concise & very informative /enjoyable to watch.
Thank you so much! I've only used my M&P 9 Shield EZ once and didn't really have any idea how to clean it. I also wanted to thank you for all your videos. I have learned an amazing amount from you.
I’m sure this was very helpful for a lot of people that are just learning I like to clean my guns after every time I use them. To me it’s a labor of love I enjoy doing it it’s relaxing and I think of them as a work of art that I just need to keep clean. Especially my EDC it gets cleaned every time I shoot it because I want it in tiptop shape in case my life all depend on it. Once again thank you for an enjoyable video. You’re doing a lot of good for a lot of people
Thanks so much. Just purchased a Shield 2.0. Love it. This was very helpful and I will save the video to use as a clean my gun the first few times.
Great step by step video and very informative. I have the same gun, should I oil the recoil spring? My husband usually cleans my gun, but now that I am feeling a bit more confident and have taken the time to learn more about it, I would like to start cleaning my gun myself.
great video, not only informative but with wonderful character and a sense of joy , making the cleaning a fun task , ty
I have a recently purchased M&P EZ 9mm and M&P 22. Have taken them to the range a few times and now its time for cleaning. Thanks for the ez demo. I also just received my CCW. I think all gun owners should take the course so they understand gun ownership and when you can defend yourself. The instructor said this class will try to keep you out of prison. I understood much mose after the class.
I just purchased a Smith and Wesson m&p and your videos have really helped me. Thank you so much!
This was the best video, much more thorough than many others, thank you for making it easy with facts and a casual delivery! AWESOME!
That was helpful and motivating. I think I'm going to go and clean my M&P Shield. TKS!
Thank you! The cleaning instructions in my manual just weren't enough for me. I was afraid to remove the slide and do a proper cleaning of my gun, nervous about putting it back together right. I watched several videos. The close-ups, details, and simple terms you used were very useful and helped me clean my gun properly for the first time.
Text to the number above champion for a prize congratulations ...
Great job!!! I switched to Ballistol and bore snakes years ago to same time and effort. End up taking several guns to the range and I do like to clean them afterwards.
Ballistol is good stuff but doesn’t smell as pretty as Hoppe’s.
Appreciate all your videos, me and my wife are new gun owners and although I knew just a bit more than her about guns we're both learning more and more on the go, so keep the videos coming!!! Thanks again!
Stumbled across this channel by accident. Watched the front sight focus. Very informative. And I like this video as well. Many other vids don't get as detailed as you get. Love it.
You can use the grip lock thingy to move the little jigger to get your slide off
Thank you. Purchased an M&P Shield a couple of months ago and need to clean it. Will be saving this video in my library!
I really enjoyed your video. It was very informative and helpful. I’m a new gun owner and I have a m&p shield plus. I’m about to do my first cleaning and oiling before I shoot it for the first time. Thank you!!
Steph,I use Ballistol for a CLP. Works great! Great video! 👍👍
From another newbie with pistols, Thank You for a very well done video!! Will keep following your videos from now on!
I never heard about not dropping oil inside that little thing that make the gun go boom! (Learning terminology still) your video thaught me something like 10 other videos failed to mention! Thank you!
Text to the number above champion for a prize congratulations..
Nice video, I always run a pad with a little oil thru the barrel after it’s cleaned. Just they way I learned years ago. Keep up the good work.
I still love cleaning my gun... I think because my dad did it a lot when I was a kid. I find it very calming. In fact, if there is an ASMR video of someone cleaning their gun I would totally watch it! Thanks for the great content!
Thank you. your instructions are clear and through. I look forward to watching more of your videos. Have a great day.
Just bought my very first firearm (first gen Shield just like you) and this video is so helpful! I'm excited to clean mine for the first time and now I feel like I'll know what I'm doing. Thank you!
Very informative! As a new gun owner I've been wondering how and when to clean.
Very good video! One thing you should change is that the barrel of the gun is rifled (spiraled groves), so you should use the handle on the cleaning rod so that the cleaning pad can spiral along the barrel.
Wonderful demonstration! I have the same gun and that's exactly how I was taught to clean it.
Awesomest.
And yes.... I voted for you 👍
Thanks so much Moses!
I've watched so many cleaning videos but I've been waiting on yours because I know I'd understand so. much. better. And I was right. You keep it simple and effective. Thanks again!!!
Another excellent tutorial. May I suggest working in a well ventilated area with no possible source of ignition/spark? You have our vote. Thanks.
So glad YT suggested this video! Your channel is EXACTLY what I was looking for as a brand new handgun owner. 💜
Great video! I’m new to shooting and didn’t know about needing to be careful cleaning around the firing pin hole. Again, great video.
OK girl I signed up and voted for you in both categories always love watching your videos.
I do like to wear nitrile / latex gloves to prevent any carbon, lead, and other dirt from getting on my skin. Great video and keep up the great content! 👍🏻
Yep, good tip! 👍
Thanks for the lesson. I enjoy the way you explain things. So easy to understand. Love your channel. ❤️
Great job!!!!! You took the doubt out of cleaning my firearm for the first time.
Nice cleaning kit. I clean my M&P the same way. I also like to give the feed ramp a light polish. I also check the extractor for any possible damage.
Nice job on the details. Love the way you racked the slide back and pulled your hand off so it can move into place on its own.
I appreciate the cleaning video so much. I’m a beginner and it was very helpful to see how you clean your gun. Your channel is great!!
Thank you for your content, I'm very new to pistols and you take me through things from the beginning.
Was very clear and concise. You did a fine job explaining exactly how to clean and lube your firearm.
One characteristic which defines us as "adults" is knowing wen to b humble and listening to those who've been around much longer than we hav and who may have decades of valuable experience to share, and for all the right reasons. In my experience, i can tell u exactly wen yor sidearm will fail you, if you fail to maintain it properly. It will fail u the moment yor life may depend on it!
Ty this is a perfect video for me ❤just got my new m&p shield
THANKS
Thanks for watching, Susan! I used to have a 9C. Great gun :)
It's been a long time since cleaning my swmp40 and your video was so helpful ❤ ty
Very informative and well planned video, thank you for posting. You hum as you work, shows that you enjoy what your doing!
Also new to gun ownership. Love the videos that focus on the basics and don't get too convoluted with jargonese. Thanks!
What do you think of using a bore snake after each range session? Overkill? I also use nitrile gloves, but it can sometimes impair your dexterity. Great post! Keep ‘em coming!
Think I'm gonna attempt this for my first time tomorrow! Your videos make me feel so much more confident doing these sorts of things. Thank you so much! 🖤
Nice detailed cleaning video. Thanks for all you do.
