Many teams have long-time, beloved announcers who become an integral part of their team's history, with an impact that exceeds almost any of the teams' players. Then there is Vince Scully. The incomparable Scully is the dean of baseball broadcasters. We were lucky to have him for so many years. (Since 1950!)
And still going at 91.
I remember this like it was yesterday. One of my favorite Scully moments out of so many favorite moments. Vin, you are irreplacable and you will be so, so missed. Rest in peace.
Almost made me shed a tear. A man near the end of his life saying one last farewell to his fans.

Theo...Vin sits in a group of only him at the top of greatest announcers, your guy Harry though was in that next group. Absolutely one of the best to ever do it and sadly left us too soon Phillies fans were blessed to have him. I also remember alot of the Football work Harry did also, what an incredible announcer!

The Dodgers have been very lucky to have Vin Scully as their commentator for 66 years. Vin Scully's love and gratitude to the game of baseball is absolutely amazing.
That was one of the greatest moments ever in a pregame ceremonial first pitch. There have been so many truly great baseball announcers who have truly entertained us with the skill to both describe the action on the field while entertain us with humor, especially with their partner in the booth. Only one Vin Scully. The Dodger fan was so lucky to have had hi for all those years.

I've never liked the Dodgers ever but I love Vin Scully, even when my heart was breaking with the "behind the bag" call in game 6 in '86...He was best at what he did and this moment was absolute gold...

Wow, what great memories. Vin Scully, Fernando & Steve Yeager. Take me back to that great 1981 season when Fernandomania was at it' height & we beat those dang Yankees after losing twice in a row to them in the 1977 & 1978 season.

I'll be honest, when Vinny called for a left-hander, I thought it was going to be Sandy Koufax. I was just as happy with Fernando, though. Still went through his delivery even!

I thought this was awesome and I'm a Astros fan. I remember growing up with Game of the Week on NBC with him and Joe Garagiola.
Vin is a legend, but this was one of the most bizarre things I've seen in a while at a ball game. Only in L.A.
It's like Babe Ruth retiring at Yankee stadium...or Lou Gehrig "luckiest man on the face of the Earth" speech...for us Dodgers fans anyway
Little bit different. Also Ruth didn't have any kind of retirement ceremony at Yankee Stadium, he went to the Braves in 1935 and they had a Babe Ruth Day not long before he died in the late 1940's. Gehrig was dying and they had a special moment for him that was not planned btw, he wasn't even going to speak. This thing was way over the top and then to have good, but not great players in Fernando and Yeager actually throw out the first pitch was anticlimactic. I mean where is Koufax? Hershiser? and I know Piazza isn't on good terms with the Dodgers, but you could have done a lot better than Steve Yeager.
