- Three Hall of Famers in one roundtable. Hear from Bob Miller, Chick Hearn and Vin Scully as they discuss their starts in the broadcasting business and some classic stories from a piece we did back in 2000.
I remember Vin calling a minor collision on the field and saying: "As Chick Hearn would say, no harm no foul". My head almost exploded! 😁😁 I miss these guys....
I think Chick brought a bit more flare and fun to his play-calling, while Vin gave the fans more stories and a vibe of how the game was going. Both are incredible.
3:51 as legendary as Bob Miller and Chick Hearn are, the look of respect and reverence they give to Vin Scully is incredible.
That's the Mount Rushmore of LA!

LA also had the great Dick Enberg in the 1960's and early 1970's. Chick, Vin, and Dick are truly the greatest of the great.
And a few year later Bob gets 2 rings! Chick and Vin are amazing announcers and storytellers. I feel like my parents hired them to babysit us as kids. Lol

Same here.
So fortunate to have grown up in L.A. listening to Scully, Hearn and Enberg. Wasn't a hockey fan, so I didn't listen to Miller. But we truly had the supreme broadcasting quartet.
Little did Bill know at that time that he'd go on to be the announcer for the Lakers with Stu Lantz.
And doing a fine job at it too.
There will never be another Vincent Edward Scully 🎙💙💖💔

Had to come back here after the sad news earlier tonight. RIP Vin Scully. It is soothing to know he can go say hi to Chick again.

I grew up in the 70s-90s listening to all three of them 350x a year counting pre-season, regular season, playoffs.. they were like an extension of my teachers for 25yrs .. its crazy thinking about listening to 10,000 games they called that I must have listened to or part of from the time I was 4/5 years old.. I can remember bringing a panasonic transistor radio (my grandma bought from FedCo:) to school year round or really anywhere...
I am crying as I watch this. End of an era.

Everyone, including those outside of So Cal know of the legends that are Chick and Vin. But Bob Miller is special, by far the best hockey voice I have ever heard and also had the hardest job to announce due to the speed of the game.
I don't know how hockey announcers do it.
LA sports doesn’t get the national recognition that it deserves but we all know it has one of the best sports cultures in the country.
There is not another group of announcers that are in the same stratosphere as these three hall of famers, Scully, Hearn and Miller). The greatest in all three sports and I had the privilege to live in California and grew up listening to them. Never again will there be so much royalty in the announcers booth. I love you guys!
These are the great LEGENDS of sports radio broadcasting. What a treat to see all 3 sitting down for an interview. PURE GOLD!

Growing up, you could hear the echo of Vin throughout the park. My Grandpa and every other fan brought their transistor radios so they could hear the master.
I grew up with CHICK! He was AWSOME! Bob didn’t have championship rings at this time, but he was able to get 2 Stanley Cup rings!

What a blessing it was for anyone who ever had a conversation with Vin Scully.
I remember this. They announced it well ahead of time. I had looked for this before but no dice. I remember Vin Scully saying that he wishes for Bob Miller to be able to say, 'The Los Angeles Kings are the Stanley Cup Champions.' He did. KEEP HOUNDING FOX SPORTS TO UPLOAD THE REST OF IT.
Well said. I wish they would upload the entire interview. I actually recorded this on VHS but unfortunately, it was taped over. I'll take this short clip though. A rare treat seeing all of these great broadcasters together on the same stage.

LA is truly blessed. Amazing franchises in the kings, lakers and dodgers but the crown on the top is that we grew up with these poet announces for many many many years. We are super spoiled in LA.

Legends of sports broadcasting. We had the best in L.A. Met Bob Miller twice and both times he was very welcoming and extremely friendly to talk to.
I remember so many times when I couldn't watch the games but listened to these 3 call the games on the radio and their descriptions were so clear it was like I was right there with the team!
I’m happy that Bob also got some rings to join Vin and Chick.

At the time this was filmed Vin Scully's career still had sixteen years to run. That's an entire career for some people in his field.
Growing up with these 3 is a gift that will never happen again.
Chick Hearn is always ultra fun to listen to. A true artist and great basketball mind.

Never really grew up in the Chick Hearn Era big he is a huge important part of Laker history, and with Bob as of 2017 I know he’s retired now.
As for Vin I grew up listening to him and watching the Dodger games on KCAL (the good old days btw) Vin is obviously retired now but those three men are legendary.
Vin Scully was around for so long that different generations of fans have their own "good old days". For me it was the days before Fox when the Dodger games were televised on Channel 11 / KTTV.
Come to think that Bill MacDonald covering the Lakers games years later and doing good at it still.

First, it's was Vin Scully who's retired for the LA Dodgers, and last but not least, it's was Bob Miller who's retired for the LA Kings.
Chick was the first one we lost
didnt listen to kings hockey but do remember listening to Chick doing laker road games on KHJ and Vin doing dodger road games on KTTV back in the early-mid 80s

Chick Hearn coined a lexicon of basketball terms. What a delight. The creator of the "frozen rope." Vin I listened to when the Dodgers were in Brooklyn. I can't add a thing to what's been said in praise.

I would. Vin was considered a prodigy broadcaster starting in his 20s. Chick didn't get his big gig with the lakers until his 30s

You guys notice how similar in tone and voice inflections Chick and Vin Were?
In some ways, but Vin was always slower and Chick had that staccato. It was partly a reflection on their regional accents (Chick was from suburban Chicago and Vin from the Bronx) and partly the nature of their sports. Chick called both radio and TV in a fast paced sport that went up and down and required a ton of description to understand on radio. Vin called TV mostly like he called radio, being far more descriptive than most baseball play by play guys are now, but there is so much room in a baseball game to weave in other thoughts and it allows a relaxed pace. This is particularly true because Vin worked mostly without a color commentator, so he filled the time himself.
