  • Broadcast on May 6th, 1991, this episode of "Later with Bob Costas" features two legendary baseball broadcasters as Brooklyn (and later L.A.) Dodgers chatting about the Red Barber style of game calling; Scully's greatest memories include Kirk Gibson 1988 H.R., calling Henry Aaron breaking Babe Ruth's home run record; Sandy Kofax's perfect game in 1965, Bill Buckner's World Series flub, and perhaps most interesting the political appropriation of Scully's own World Series flub in 1987 with the Cardinals by Missouri's Governor. Vin Scully was always a class act! Part two aired in June and will be linked at the end of this video, #vinscully #bobcostas #baseball #ladodgers #brooklyndodgers #broadcasting #sports #sportscasters #sandykoufax #kirkgibson #baberuth #billbuckner #worldseries

I remember sitting on the back porch with my great uncle Dan a WWI vet listening to Vin Scully on the radio in the mid 60’s. He brought the game to life and the fact that he did play by play and color by himself was amazing. Later when he would do the same as a simulcast was something nobody has ever done because there was only one Vin Scully. “Eastern most In quality Western most in freshness, Farmer John”.

Costas interviewing Scully is just right. Scully is a legend and Costas is one of the few people that was actually qualified to interview him.

Incredible that in this entire program Vin did not stammer once for a word. That literary talent or genius is what made him a super broadcaster; he was able to broadcast games by himself for 3 hours because the words came so easily for him.

Used to tape Letterman and Costas shows nightly. Late night for the laughs; Later for great one on one interviews. These Later shows on TH-cam would be more enjoyable if the short video/film clips of the guests work which aired on the original broadcast weren't deleted. Is this a copyright issue?
