I’m gonna be honest, not only is The Subspace Emissary still good, I think it’s the gold standard for crossover platform fighter’s story mode. Like compare SSE to story modes from other game like PlayStation Allstar Battle Royale, Nickelodeon All Star Brawl, and Multiversus. Like the difference in quality is night and day. You got full on cutscenes with choices that change the gameplay, and full on bosses. It’s amazing that 17 years later, Subspace Emissary is still so much better than games that have come out after it.
I think subspace still holds up but I definitely want an ultimate version not world of light but something like this but more of places better based on Nintendo games like master hand merged the worlds or something
This truly was the peak of Super Smash Bros Single Player experience, I think they should continue with the 4 enemy classes 7 if you add Pokémon, Zelda and Ice Climbers from Melee. But having maybe the next single player be like a mix of both Adventure Mode (Melee) and SSE would be a great idea for the Smash 6 maybe even upgrade some Assist Trophies to have 2 roles as Assist and Mid-Boss in the next Adventure mode for Smash 6.
part of the reason the post-game fighters are so lame is because they were all last-minute additions and the devs didn't have time to rework the story to add them in
I wish Super Smash Bros Ultimate had an actual sequel to the Subspace Emissary Story Mode. I also wish that beating Subspace Emissary would've allowed players to unlock Tabuu.
@robotwars666 It didn't help as it went way too long for its own good. Seriously, three overly large maps, with hundreds of different Spirits each, and many of the segments had puzzles or minimaps that overstayed their welcome. The only good thing World of Light had was the ability to unlock the roster much easier than the regular criterias needed to unlock them. But even then, Subspace Emissary did it first, and arguably did it better, as every character that was unlocked felt like it was telling a story over you just finding them, fighting them, and freeing them from the likes of Galeem and Dharkon.
The bonus characters aren't totally useless. If you didn't have them unlocked already you could unlock them for the multiplayer using this method . That's how I did it.
To be fair, a lot of your complaints come due to you playing on intense. At lower difficulties, the enemy count is reduced, the moving platforms are slower, and the fights are overall much better. Unless you are spending hours on the sticker system, there's no reason to play on any difficulty higher than hard. I'm glad it was overall a good experience tho! I speedrun the mode so I've spent a lot of time in it, and I still love it despite all its flaws 😅
I can definitely see what you're saying about the difficulties, but I really wanted to review it on the hardest difficulty because I never like games that are too easy. My perfect difficulty is when it's challenging but fair, kind of like the Mega Man games where it's tough as nails, but if you lose, you know that it's entirely your fault and it doesn't feel unfair. If I play the game again just for fun, then I'll probably would play it on an easier difficulty to see if I have more fun with it. Thanks for watching the video!
@@Boinga0912To be fair, the intent is likely for you to play on hard or easier, and then replay at intense when you know the level layout. It doesn't fix the enemy issue but the platforming speed isn't problematic that way Instead I'd complain about the auto scroll sections
The reason the three final characters are postgame are because they were last minute additions to the game who were added after it was delayed. Their data in the game's code is at the very end of the characters, after Sonic and before the seven incomplete characters (Mewtwo, Roy, Doctor Mario, Dixie Kong, Plusle & Minun, Toon Zelda, and Toon Sheik)
Personally, I think the fact that most were disappointed with how lackluster World of Light was in Ultimate, I think it's fair to state that, "Yeah, Subspace Emissary was peak and one of Brawl's crowning achievements."
12:29 So part of the Subspace Emissary Intense difficulty is not just tougher enemies it also affects the platformer aspect. The hovering platforms are sped up.
To be honest I loved subspace emissary better then ultimate’s story line but that’s just my opinion plus because Brawl was my first smash game I played
I love seeing all the characters interacting with each other in this mode! The only thing that bothers me is that scene where Link and Yoshi fight Mario and Pit. I understand Link wanting to fight Mario, but aren’t Mario and Yoshi supposed to be friends? Why would Yoshi be willing to fight Mario in that scene? To me, it makes no sense and it bothers me because I don’t like seeing friends fighting each other. To me, that’s not true friendship. True friendship is when friends treat each other with respect and never fight or argue
I still find Brawl the best game. Smash Wii U was so bare bones and had lackluster game modes. Ultimate suffers from the same problems. The world of light is just a way too long worse version of Subscace. My only real problem with Brawl is the slow speed and the goddamn tripping. A slightly less fast Melee with it's adventure more expanded to encompass to larger amount of series represented in Smash Bros or just a unified adventure mode like subscace.....also what do you mean Brawl was seventeen years ago?😢
Very late nights 😅 For this video, I took about a week and a half for gameplay and script writing, and then I was really rushing to hit the deadline of January 31st, so I edited the video for about 3 and a half days. Also, I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
My only gripe w the Subspace Emissary is the vagueness of the setting-where is it meant to take place? Sure it’s cool to see all these characters from different franchises interacting w one another, but they don’t even appear to be in their respective worlds; the closest we get is the jungle stage w DK and Diddy. Everything other than that just feels like a random hodge-podge of different biomes and locations. It just feels strange…
@@Boinga0912 my ideal concept for a cinematic story mode for Smash would be to have it take place in a sort of multiverse comprised of every one of the Nintendo universes, and you would unlock portals to travel through each and every one of them. Then in a similar concept to Subspace, the final few levels could take place in a sort of "void" realm that exists outside of any of the worlds. This could also be a great way to capitalize on the early idea that all of Smash Bros. takes place in a child's imagination-basically The Lego Movie but with Nintendo lol
@AlecOBrien-n8n Interesting idea! A few years back, I made a concept trailer for Super Mario Odyssey 2, and I showed Mario going to Hyrule and Dreamland, so that really sounds like something I would want
18:00 Toon link isnt a real link so it'd sorta be like meeting a fan of yours. Well less a fan and moreso a random boy who dresses like you for tradition.
My friend never played subspace before we played brawl a lot but never subspace so we did co-op it was fun but playing above hard really sours the experince if you don’t have stickers (it was a fresh save) we had fun and he enjoyed it but he saw the same problems you said too many enemies
@shardge7247 Hey, if you like Subspace, that's great, you don't have to agree with me. I whoever, never liked the mode and always thought it was a really boring, and limited mode.
The realization that Brawl came out 17 storming years ago was a stronger hit than any Final Smash lmao
Subspace Emissary is the pinnacle of Smash's "massive crossover fanfic" premise.

Story of light was hyped up by the devs but personaly i thought it sucked.
Iam afraid they never gonna make such a great story agian :(
World of light sucks.

True, but that's for other parts of the game. I was talking only about The Subspace Emissary, where there's not much to do with them
My favorite bit is the insert of the SpongeBob clip when mentioning the “bomb factory.”
That clip was all I could think of when saying those words 😅
They should have buffed meta knight, worst character is not a good title😔
I know right! Same thing with Bayonetta in Smash 4 and Steve in Ultimate. They're way too weak!

I love it, i'm tryin to remake all subspace emissary levels in mario maker 2 (except for great maze and subspace levels)
Also the enemies cans be found again in smash run
Is Subspace Emissary still good?
Let me ask you another question: Is water wet?
Especially in two player mode it`s really awesome!
I just feel like they should’ve turned this into a series to design & concept was so fire 🔥 😂
For a lot of teenage like i was, ZSS was something magic 😊

The gameplay was fine, but the story was epic 😎👍

Kirby is featured prominently in smash because smash is the brainchild of Masahiro Sakurai, better known as the creator of Kirby
Yeah, he gets special treatment in this game and in World of Light 😅
