Hi Tina and Norm! We just got back from Terceira Island (on June 01, 2022) and followed some of your recommendations. We tried the firehall for lunch and it was a great deal. The price has gone up a bit (to be expected), but is still only 6.50 / 7.50 Euro (large and small) which still includes soup, main course, dessert, wine and a coffee! We were thinking of you two when we had lunch there! We love all of your videos so much because my wife and I are both Portugal lovers! Steve and Sandie.
That’s awesome Steve glad you found our fire hall restaurant, it was a little gem! We have been looking at Azores Getaways deals and they are tempting but the Canadian government has a travel advisory against the Azores because of increased volcanic activity. We are so glad you has a good time, which hotel were you in.
We loved it there and will be back , we are looking forward to going to Albufeira in the Algarve in January which will be warmer than here as we have ⛄️ here in Canada 🇨🇦.🙂
I've been meaning to ask you. Do you use indoor heating when you're in the Algarve in winter? I know the houses in Portugal are designed to dissipate heat so I'm wondering if it gets a little cold indoors at night. Thanks....I have Portuguese roots but you guys are the real experts on the country at this point. Cheers : )
@@martymendes1 Hi Martin, Yes we do use heat sometimes in the evening and early morning, where we have stayed most often the heating cooling unit is combined and mounted high on the wall, it has a remote control. I am so glad that you had a good time on Terceira, and thank you for such a wealth of good advice. I must confess, however, that I am a bit baffled by the fact that you had such trouble pronouncing the word "Heroismo" (as in, Angra do Heroismo) and that you didn't realize that the Portuguese word "Heroismo" and the English word "Heroism" are practically the same, mean the same, and are pronounced almost the same. If you were to say that word in English but ending it with an "O" at the end, you'd have been understood by every local, even by those who don't speak a word of English. I say this without any wish to be disrespectful since you are such a gentle and friendly couple, but you would not be the first English-speaking people who fail to realize just how many Portuguese and English words are identical and end up messing up the pronunciation unnecessarily. On a different note -- what you're doing, sharing all that information and experience with the world, is just great. Best of luck on your travels.

We have found that there seems to be different ways of serving Bacalau, sometimes with mashed potatoes on top , or at O Chico it was a large piece of Cod Bacalau with roasted potatoes and a salad . The fire station did the first one and we really liked that . Hope you are having a good weekend 👍🍷🍺
That o sounds like u Angra do Heroísmo. Do- is the same pronounce as in English. When you say “ Do you have…? That o in do sounds like u,doesn’t it? The o in Heroísmo also sounds like u,last but not least, the H letter in Portuguese is always silent. My name is José and that o also sounds like u. I hope you had learn some Portuguese- até logo- see you.
Thank you for your advice, we do struggle with Portuguese pronunciation, thank you for being kind to us and trying to help, we appreciate it. More importantly we want to share and show Portugal to our friends on TH-cam.
This Is Our Retirement when I started to learn English in London it wasn’t easy peace lemon squeeze for me. I had to brush my socks up to make myself understood. We speak several languages, especially English. You guys are born under a lucky star. There are more foreigners who speak English than native speakers. In London almost no one spoke a foreign language to me, only English. It was rare hearing a native English speaker speaking a different language. I was in deep water because I was forced to communicate in English ,and at that time, my English left a lot to be desired. In Portuguese, there are many sounds which are alike. It doesn’t take long to learn an European language, however an asiatic language takes forever. Do has the same pronunciation as the auxiliar verb do in English. Portuguese pronunciation is easier than English. Portuguese is a phonetic language to a certain extent, unlike English,we foreigners,we have to learn how to write a word and how to pronounce it. In Mateus- you pronounce all the letters( the u) as well. If you say mates- we might understand the short version of mathematics 🧮.( slang)
@@Theyoutuberpolyglot We understand that English is a very hard Language to learn we were lucky we grew up with it as our first language. We have learnt elements of French and Spanish but right now in North America Portugal 🇵🇹 is totally on trend , replacing Florida as a winter destination all our friends are now coming to Portugal for a winter break. We have visited Portugal the last three years and are trying hard to learn the Language . Did you realize that Portugal bad Great Britain 🇬🇧 have the longest military alliance in the world, kind of cool Hey .😎
This Is Our Retirement I didn’t know that. English is much easier than German. I am trying to learn Russian, but Russian is quite difficult. You can watch me speaking several languages in my channel. Believe me English isn’t as harder as you think 💭. There is must be reason why English is the international language and not Japanese for instance. Mandarin is also popular. I know Portuguese is spoken in 8 countries, but I didn’t know some usa people are learning this language. Some people tend to muddle up Spanish and Portuguese. A couple of tourists go to Portugal 🇵🇹 and say “ buenos días” we might understand, but it is quite annoying when foreigners think we speak Spanish. Yeah, you might run into Portuguese polyglots like me, but it is rude when someone takes for granted we speak Spanish. There is a difference between the two countries. Spanish people are famous for the flamenco 💃, paella and toros ( bulls). Bullfighting. Portuguese are well known to eat fish ( bacalhau),speak several languages. You can watch the Tv in English with Portuguese subtitles. We grew up watching films in the original languages. It is easy to speak English in Portugal. In Spain, people tend to say” a mi me hablas en español” you speak to me in Spanish.
