I've left this same comment on your channel several times, but here I go again: the Galaxy class is such a beautiful ship. The proportions could not be better.
Lieutenant Worf : Captain! They're now locking lasers on us. Commander William T. Riker : Lasers? Lieutenant Worf : Yes, sir. Captain Jean-Luc Picard : Lasers can't even penetrate our navigation shields, don't they know that? Commander William T. Riker : Regulations... do call for yellow alert. Captain Jean-Luc Picard : Hm... Very old regulation. Well, make it so, Number One. And reduce speed. Drop main shields as well. Commander William T. Riker : May I ask why, sir? Captain Jean-Luc Picard : In case we decide to surrender to them, Number One.
"should we beam some flowers into engineering and hope one of the crewmen have hay fever and when they sneeze it causes it causes a warp core breach... that sounds like a Kirk plan" should be considered classic 🤣
2:30 The Galaxy-class seems to be particularly vulnerable to being rammed in general, there was that one episode in DS9 (can't remember the exact name of the episode) where the USS Odyssey was rammed by a single Dominion attack ship as well after all, leading to a warp core breach :P
Episode was "The Jem'Hadar", season 2 episode 26 But that was not a glancing ram like TNG "Cause and Effect", that was a full kamikaze ram into the engineering section. The ram took damage deep into the hull and it looked like it might've destroyed main engineering.
😨Holy Q Admiral.. saw the thumbnail and was like WHAT!! lol.. I had a feeling the Galaxy would win.. Yes should be USS Frasier.. lol. and imagine Niles as number 1 oh gosh, like the skit with Janeway and all from Frasier show.. Daphne was like Betazed and said.. '"Captain, I am getting a feeling that someone wants to have s** with me'' and Niles turns and tried to look busy.. lol. oh gosh.. and imagine their Father as an Admiral. oh my.. Yes lol flowers... since I have hay fever.. lol '' oopsie doodle!'' yes Geordi would say, '' AHH never mind'' lol. love the battle Admiral and freaky how the engineering and nacelles just flew off.. ouch.. 😊🖖
Weapons output hasn't evolved geometrically over the era's. It's been incremental. That's because weapons and shielding in even Kirk's era was already fantastically powerful. Starfleet ships have always been overmatched to vessels of other powers, and that's been maintained through the centuries. Starfleet shielding, power efficiency, capacity, potential, etc., has evolved faster than the upper destructive thresholds of Starfleet weapons. The asymmetry of overmatch vis-a-vis ship classes has actually compelled the other powers to constantly struggling to keep up, despite Starfleet being smaller than other powers. That's what made the Romulan Warbird such a fantastically terrifying reveal. There were likely other Starfleet ships than the Galaxy Class that were in development or could be fitted to outperform it combat-wise, but the Galaxy Class in its limited numbers were the eminent belles of Starfleet's ball. ie. While its offensive capability was laterally impressive compared to other ships of the line, its impressive staying power and force projection made it eminent (think sensors, computing power, etc.). So even though the Warbird's firepower was sub-par to the Galaxy class, it was also a *common ship of the Romulan line*. Cue Starfleet's double down on evolving technologies. Even still, torpedos and phasers from Kirk's era could be a threat to any contemporary vessel; a far cry from lasers and projectiles referred to in Earth-Romulan war.
W/ such a disparity in tech / power the only way the Alphas could take on a Galaxy ( in universe) would be for the Alphas to target the Galaxy's sensors and main deflector... No deflector Gal is basically stuck w/ thrusters / very low impulse and no sensors allows the Alphas to break dn the Gal's shields and blow her apart
Back in the 1980s my friends and I used to play Star Trek: Starship Tactical Combat Simulator. It was a table-top battle simulator. It was sort of like these simulations, but with chits and hex maps and took about an hour to complete a single combat.
@@RetroBadgerGaming It was made by a company called FASA. They produced both the Doctor Who RPG as well as the Star Trek RPG. I'm sure that copies exist some where on e-Bay or Amazon. If your young, flush with cash and have a bunch of great gaming buddies, I'm sure you'd enjoy it.
I heard in cause and effect it was planned as cheers of fraiser reunion originally…. Also fraisers wife is the alien who gets with riker in the episode first contact
How accurate do the Enterprise A's torpedoes have to be, to fit through the gap, under the saucer and above the warp support struts, of the Enterprise D? 🖖
What was the name of that computer that Daystrom created? I wonder if it could kill a single D. 🤔 Daystrom (paraphrase): LOOK... this mighty fleet that you're so proud of, they're nothing, they're like toys to him! 😄 Edit: Yes, I'm sure that after ramming their nacelle it caused a warp core breech. Captain Frazier would be proud. I've never seen warp core breeches take place more times than on a Galaxy class 😆. Coolant leak, we have a coolant leak!
How about how many stargazers to defeat the Enterprise D? Two? Three? Like that TNG episode with the USS Hathaway. Imagine a Constellation Class Dominion War Refit with upgraded shields, weapons, quantum torpedoes and finally aft torpedo’s! That would be really cool. I always imagined the Constellation Class as a “Aircraft Carrier” in times of war with all of those shuttlebays. Out it with a few squadrons of attack shuttles/federation fighters and it would be quite formidable in the dominion war.
I thought the Enterprise-D's Achiles' heel was a single Bird of Prey. *Cough* Bullschitt! *Cough* Uh. I don't think an NX-01 era torpedo would do that much damage to a Galaxy class starship's shields. Never mind the fact they weren't supposed to have photon torpedoes at that time (according to Spock). But, with the shields down, all it would take is one torpedo in or near the warp core and the Enterprise-D would be done. I really liked the Motion Picture era stuff. The hand phasers sounded like beef, the photon torpedoes looked like they meant business, the (second) uniforms looked like uniforms, and the Red Alert klaxon sounded more urgent. It's the only era that hasn't seen a series and needs more exposure.
Anything is the Achiles' heel if it can get through your shields. The only reason the Enterprise wasn't blown up in the first engagement of WoK is because Khan needed to gloat, and also wanted information on the Genesis device. Minimal power from the enterprises phasers in a few shots was enough to make Khan turn tail and run.
Hmmm. Try Honor Harrington ships against Federation ships. Remember that the missile weapons accelerate at 82,000 times the force of gravity for up to three minutes... And the situation gets worse in the later novels.
The power difference in those ships is staggering. It does make me wonder about a Generations scenario... how would a D-12 Bird of Prey fare against a Galaxy both with the shields up, and with the shields down, to simulate what the Duras sisters pulled off in the movie? Would the Galaxy still be too powerful against such an old ship even without shields?
@@RetroBadgerGaming haha yup! You should ask MSR171 to or Greystar to polish the Grand Nagus up and smarten up the textures. Its only sin is it looks a little rushed but could be a fine, fine lady.
Indeed! I have no way of commanding the fleet to target specific sub systems sadly. A sound tactic though. With the Torpedo launcher out of action, it may have been possible for the connie refits 🖖
If a TOS Connie was able to blow up NX class ships in a Mirror Darkly episode with a few hits... you can be sure a 2360-ies Galaxy class will most certainly be able to do something similar to the refit Constitution class. Sure, the differences between the two are not 100 years, but more like 75 years, but still, the Galaxy class would have easily ruled this fight in any scenario. As for torpedoes being torpedoes... not really. 23rd century vs 24th century Photons wouldn't be the same in terms of firepower or effectiveness. Same goes for phasers. The Galaxy class comes with massively OP phasers and torpedoes... so it would have been able to not only target and fire on all 4 ships at the same time... simple phaser barrages would have probably done them in in a few hits.
Going to be honest, I think tng era ships are portrayed a bit too powerful compared to what they should be. Outside of more efficient computing, most of the tng era Federation ships were not too far removed from TMP era ships.
No need to worry about the “glass jaw” warp core on a Galaxy class if Geordi isn’t there. He was in all likelihood the WORST chief engineer in history, probably because they thought a blind man would be able to fix things. 😂
Okay, there were flaws in the set-up logic. The E is 8 times the size of the A. So it should have been 8 A's vs the D. And for shats and giggles, 4 Bs, then 2 Cs. Let's see that tournament. ;)
I've left this same comment on your channel several times, but here I go again: the Galaxy class is such a beautiful ship. The proportions could not be better.
secondary hull should be larger to match the saucer. and give the warp core more protection.
If the Connie got an TNG refit it would have been seen in all of the TNG movies and shows
@Skirne Totally agree. It's a thing of beauty! The Drive Section even looks good when the saucer separates 😃🖖
Lieutenant Worf : Captain! They're now locking lasers on us.

Could you do 5 A's versus 1 E?
Oooooh, now that would be a challenge. Sure, I'll add that to the battle list :-) 🖖
Absolutely NO contest. The Galaxy class really wiped the floor with the Enterprise-A's. lol This was an awesome match.
Thanks Trenton! It was painful seeing the Enterprise A be destroyed though! 🖖
That was epic seeing 4 Connie’s against the mighty Galaxy class!!! I like the “USS Bozeman manoeuvre” at the end lol
2:30 The Galaxy-class seems to be particularly vulnerable to being rammed in general, there was that one episode in DS9 (can't remember the exact name of the episode) where the USS Odyssey was rammed by a single Dominion attack ship as well after all, leading to a warp core breach :P
I think being rammed in the warp core area without shields would destroy most ships

But that was not a glancing ram like TNG "Cause and Effect", that was a full kamikaze ram into the engineering section. The ram took damage deep into the hull and it looked like it might've destroyed main engineering.
I have to admit, I’m also vulnerable to a giant spaceship running into me, so I can sympathize
Great video. And I love your commentary, it adds a lot to the viewing experience. Thank you for a another great space battle.
I was hoping for a Connie victory, but even I knew it was a long shot
Changing your videos to play in 2160 makes things sooooo beautiful!
Oh my goodness - how many Connies do we actually need to win this, 16?? 😄

I'm imagining Q is the reason for Picard fighting four Kirks.
Haha! I think he's responsible for half the stuff on this channel 😂
"No, you are mistaken. There are FIVE Kirk's!" 😂
cause and effected by the wrong ship lol... ty for the video and LLAP!
hehe 🤣. Thanks for watching 🖖
Can you do 3 Enterprise-A's VS a this Galaxy class but with phasers only? ❤
Interesting to think that “The Battle,” as originally shot, was to be Picard in the “A” model against Riker in the “D” model.
The old flowers and sneezing gambit eh? You know it would be Barclay who sneezes and hits the self destruct button. 😂
LOL! Funnily enough I watched the Mr Brockley episode today 🤣
@@RetroBadgerGaming it's such a cringe worthy episode but also so good.
Remember the Odyssey? The biggest weakness of the Galaxy-Class is ramming the navigational deflector!
That’s why they paint the big bullseye on it. The Federation is a fair and just opponent
I couldn't play this video. TH-cam kept throwing an error: "Abandon ship! Repeat: all hands abandon-"🙀
Poor Jean-Luc, 2 weeks of his ship blowing up and then to be confronted by Fraiser. Still they did get a dance in the ballroom I suppose 🖖

This is like if the M5 was somehow revamped and placed in mothballed refit connies.
That was one Picard against four old Captain Kirks. (Got caught with their britches down.)
My first suggestion when against a superior ship is to take sensors out. They won't be able to fire after that

I do believe at least seven Enterprise As are necessary.
That's a crazy thought. Imagine all those Connie's attacking the D!
USS Frazier. His dad is security head, Niles as first offcer, Daphne as engineer
HAHA! Love it. 🤣 🖖
Perfect
is that the "retro Badger" maneuver? to get someone to sneeze and blow up their own warp core?
What was the name of that computer that Daystrom created? I wonder if it could kill a single D. 🤔

Or, when the Captain's private pool starts to lose water: Poolant leak! We have a poolant leak! Seal all compartments and engage water pumps! 😜
I found it... it was called the M-5. Second season episode 24, "The Ultimate Computer."
Please do the Excelsior class vs the enterprise A!
Like if ST VI ended in an argument!
GALAXY CLASS FIREPOWER!
Was hoping you did at least one full spread.
Meanwhile, the biggest weakness of the Enterprise-A is a lack of aft torpedoes!
I was 8 when Cause and Effect first aired, and even THEN I was wondering why a collision with one of the engines would destroy the entire ship.
It did seem like a major design flaw. I suppose the D's shields were down. Still though, it did make the ship appear quite weak. 🖖
It's possible the ship that hit the nacelle exploding like a giant photon torpedo had an effect.
I thought the Enterprise-D's Achiles' heel was a single Bird of Prey. *Cough* Bullschitt! *Cough*

if able to utilize all of Galaxy's firepower (multi targeting) it would have been a MUCH shorter battle.
Enterprise A actually had an aft torpedo launcher it carried 2 forward launchers and one aft launchers
You need to have the fleet aim for the D's forward torpedo launcher. It is a noted weak spot on the mods.
