Khardung La Pass is a high mountain pass in the Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir, near Leh. It's the highest motorable pass in India at 5,359 meters. It's also known as the gateway to the Nubra and Shyok valleys.
Khardung La Pass is a strategically important route that leads to both China and Pakistan borders. It was constructed in 1976 and opened to the public in 1988. It's maintained by the Border Roads Organization.
The best time to visit Khardung La Pass is from April to June and from September to October. It's open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Khardung La Pass is the second-highest motorable road in the world. The world's highest motorable road passes through Umling La.
