The Qatar World Cup has provoked strong and sometimes conflicting, reactions in many people.
In this series of videos, written by James Montague and illustrated by Alice Devine, Tifo explains why the World Cup in the Gulf State is so controversial.
The contest in Qatar is beset by controversy and human rights concerns, most notably the reported deaths of migrant workers. A staggering 90% of the population of Qatar are migrant workers. Why is this number so high?
In order for Qatar to host this tournament they’ve had to build stadia, build infrastructure, build a team, and build a reputation.

@qatar is a terrorist, shameless nation which sponsors terrorism indirectly or even In some cases directly.
Qatar has the worst human rights record in the world. Thousands of workers got killed.
And corrupt FIFA had selected them as a host nation.
      Shame on Fifa
And on @qatar as well as.

Football as with any other global event is corrupt; HOWEVER whenever the WEST losses a bid they go on a massive media narrative attack. It is obvious that in order to maintain a global order, they need to position themselves as the moral authority of the planet. Furthermore, it goes without saying that this position is beyond hypocritical. Keep politics aside and enjoy the foundation of the tourney, the actual football.

He doesn't pay his salaries on time (during covid 19, he didn't pay anything for 6 months straight saying the business is closed). He hasn't increased his salary in over 5 years. He doesn't let him change his job. He refuses to give the passport back so he can come back home. Loving this new holistic content, tifo. Educating football fans since 2017 👏 keep it up and the light shining on the darker side of football that seldom gets illuminated. Even if the video is Sangare-free 😉

This is quite simply journalism of the highest level. Compelling viewing even for people who care nothing for football. It's a tragedy that for all its gravitas, its impact on the upcoming world Cup will be minimal at best. People around the world will find football too powerful a drug to give up, and the suffering of those who've fallen foul of Qatar's cruelty will never be reckoned with.
