While Ian is busy catching up on other projects for FCG, Jamie got a call from Gene's friend saying that Gene would love a visit! The perfect spring weather has Gene in good spirits! Gene shares his origins in car customization, discusses his favorite build "The Jade Idol" and shows a preview of what he will be teaching in his 2 day metal workshop coming up on April 1st and 2nd 2023 in Mojave California! Gene also gives a tour of his home and the many gifts he has received over the years and talks about his logo that he designed in the 1940's!
In his class you will be learning about the tools of the trade from a man that has been in it since 1946! Gene discusses topics like leading, hammer welding, material science, chopping tops, sectioning bodies trenching headlights and more! Demonstrations on many of these pieces of equipment will be performed, as well as hands-on work with students.

Thanks for sharing this Jamie. Old people have value. 2 out of 6. And i was thinking its more like 0 out of 6. So it gives me some hope. But i find that young people's time and interest are in other things. They don't realize without the past we wouldn't be here. Gene great stuff. Never quit being happy.

Saw Gene at the Austin City Roundup in Austin Texas. Saw him standing in a booth and I waved at him and he waved back.. I had to explain to my friend who he was. Have enjoyed watch his career and watching Ian as well!

HOPE, HOPE, HOPE!
This is such a wonderful video. I’ve been getting depressed lately because I’m unhappy about getting older. I’ll be 68 this May and it’s been weighing heavily on me, thinking more and more about the things I can’t do anymore. Seeing Gene at 95 is inspirational and has me thinking about the things I can still do and how much better I can do them because 😂of all the experience I’ve had. I’m just a bit slower then I used to be.
Before watching this video I had resigned myself to not starting any new projects and deciding which existing ones to try to finish. Now I’m thinking that not only can I finish the ones I’ve started but also planning new ones.
This is probably the most fulfilling and important thing I’ve watched out of the thousands I’ve seen. I’m more inspired and happy then I’ve been in years and much more hopeful about the future.
I really want to thank you and Gene for this!

Gene is such an inspiration, I'm 18 and starting out learning metal fabrication and custom paint on cruiser style bicycles, making things like mudguards and frames from scratch and soon I'll be building custom cars! Thanks for interviewing him, it was really fascinating and I learnt a few things along the way!👍

I've known of Mr. Winfield from the early days of custom cars and was always impressed with his skills and that special eye to create such beautiful automotive works of art. Until I retired nine years ago I worked on United Street near Gene's shop and would on a regular basis drive by and sometimes stop for a moment to see all the projects. Gene is for sure one of a kind.

Every day's a school day! One of my fondest memories was a class I took from Gene at the Syracuse nationals. I got home and built my own Pipe vice. Everytime I use it I think of Gene!
