Gene is pure class.
0 ego, 0 BS.
At the beginning he says "In case you don't know who I am, I'm Gene Winfield" He could have said so many things after that.
My cars have been featured in these movies, these magazines, I have won these awards.
What does he say "I have a shop in Mojave California. Every year we have car show. If you are in town please come on by."
God bless you Gene, I started to say may you live a100 years but that would only be 4 more years.
The world's oldest man lived to be 116.
May you take the record and then some.
Thanks to Eastwood for setting this up and releasing it.
This man is a legend in the business.
And notice how much he wants to share his knowledge with the world, and not keep it all to himself.
When you have a gift, the greatest thing you can do with it is teach others.
I just noticed that this was filmed 8 years ago. I'm Extremely thankful that these videos are still out there.
I'm a sheet metal worker myself....i could watch it all day long ..the way he threw the yellow one was which i do often
What an honor to learn from Gene
What I was taught is to mount metal file blade so teeth face you . So you pull the file towards you to shave . Also note their are course and fine file blades and also keep them oiled up so they don't oxidize .Also he was using an english panel beating hammer and a bean bag . Matt is all ears in the presence of One of the most legenday metal men of all time .I'm sure it was a humbling experience for him .Thanks Eastwood for sponsoring this great man and sharing this moment in time .
don't know what it cost Eastwood to get Mr Winfield on board, but it for sure is money well spent, so much talent and his willingness to share and teach only makes him that much more of a legend. tip of the hat to the Man!
This is outstanding. I could watch this guy all day. Learned so much. Thank you Eastwood, more like this please.
What did you learn?
@@patriot1303 What a dumb question, "every day's a school day" watch the film, you might learn something.
Very informative, very enjoyable watching Gene. Notice how well he speaks? He's a real gentleman.
again a legend! this guy has probably forgotten more about building and customizing cars than most people know in the industry today!
This is awesome. Watching Matt working with Gene reminds me of being a kid in the garage helping my dad work on cars, getting tools for him, holding the drop light or flashlight, being an extra pair of hands. I'm sure Matt was enjoying every second of it. Great video!
I am more amazed how his hair never turned gray!! simply amazing!
love how he's so oldschool, shows such enthusiasm and craftsmanship in his art and it take a hell of a lot of skill to do so :)
Things that take years to learn are offered up here in 46 minutes for free. Delicious stuff.
This video from Eastwood is the best I ever seen, Gene Winfield is a excellent and a wonderful teacher, having my own shop I learned some good tips from him , wish he would show more videos .
He's right there with Dick Landy. You should consider his two day worskshop.
Too bad Eastwood doesn't have more tools Made In America.
@@tomsimich7336yea most are bad quality hate to say but it’s mostly generic tools from China with a Eastwood logo slapped on them
What a joy..my hero growing up..I hope I can move like that at 92
96 NOW BUDS!!!!
This man is a true monument to the hot rod world and in this video you can learn more in minutes than you could years of OJT at some places
Funny thing I saw a video tour of his shop and I saw the pipe tool he was asking to be made. I just made one 2 days ago. I saw it in a 2 second clip and new I had to have one. I made it and it works great. Tour the man gene. Thanks for your dedication to the craft
A great man. A great tool company. Thank you both!
thank you very much to the EAST WOOD masters and Mr. gene, for this vid worth GOLD!
It being a pleasure watch this video same time thanks for teaching us personally I really appreciate it
Good information from a genuine legend- Gene Winfield. Thank you.
So great to learn from a SEASONED Fabricater!
Although I would probably piss him off with questions, he is a JEM when it comes to teaching todays Sheatmetal Fabricators QUITE a lesson!
Thanks for sharing this video footage.😎
Take care,

love this guy , he just tells it like it is.
Gene's a legend, he sure does!
Was that really 46 minutes long. That went by fast!!! I could spend all day learning from him. Love the tools he said to make. The first one is definitely on my list.
Dont simp
Master craftsman. Amazing knowledge a treat to watch and learn from. ❤
Thanks Gene! Glad to have found this. Natural teacher and an excellent demo! Every day IS a school day!
Gene, Matt and Eastwood. Great combo. Keep it up.
Bless your Soul, Gene. I hope I meet you one day
How could anyone thumbs down Gene Winfield! I would watch him load a roll of toilet paper, knowing I might learn something.
His car show is pretty cool, tour of his house, junkyard, band playing, auction for charity, food truck. Celebs in car building are usually there also. Like Ian from full custom garage with some of the cars he built. I go every year.
I just learned in 46 minutes than I could have in 46 videos from other guys!
Amen bro, u saved me having to tell stories!!! This guy is a true craftsman, but most of all simply demonstrates with no " fluff". Or B S lol..... He had me at walnuts !,,,
@@lawncuttingplusdelta lol yep walnuts had me glued too
when I first got my english wheel I got both my thumbs about 10 mins apart ,, still remember the pain ,,
A master from the Golden Days of Hot Rods !
Gene is a true master fabricator!!
He is great!
I really hope you listened to how Gene would modify the tools .
Maybe the tool builders will make them the way they should be .
Facts
**GENE WINFIELD** = THE MAN | THE LEGEND !!!
Really great to hear from the master. Cool tools, too.
What it hurts to me, is seeing all that people passing by!.COME ON! It's Gene right there!!!
Very informative video of a master! Gene Winfield picking on Rick Bacon was an added bonus! LOL
46 minutes, watching a guy that knows his stuff is fascinating.
Winfield is a Master. Great video...more please!?
A living legend!!!
Awesome education content.
What a Great Teacher...
This (I'm sad to admit) Is Master Craftsman skills that the younger gen may never learn. Recommendation? Learn these while you can.
this guy really is a master😁🌊
The guy is a legend
thank you , Gene for showing me, your skills on metal i learnd a lot ,,,Daniel Ruiz Jr.
We have a bunch of Gene Winfield videos on our Channel, including a Leading Video when he showed how to repair an old fender in the Eastwood Garage.
Great demonstration!
When I was an apprentice we had an hollowing block a large piece of wood with different sized hollows we used to make top hat shaft guards with a domed-end we used to form the dome on The hollowing block
"this file is new but feels dull" Priceless.
lily white hands YET his panzie ass is wearing some heady duty gloves....thats lmao priceless
That's Gene Winfield - the reason he looks after his hands is because he has more talent in each of his fingers than anyone here. The guy is a rodding legend.
@@bonnivilleblackcherry9745 your a bitch
@@bonnivilleblackcherry9745 how dare he use them for their intended purpose
@@cpkunlimited8558 at least I get paid well for it ;-)
Amazing man so much knowledge
"I'm diggin it man , way out dad", Gene ain't no square.
KEVIN BACON standing in front of GENE WINFIELD with his jaw on the floor ....AWESOME !!!!!!!
And I see Rick Bacon at 36:11. Cool.
very informative gene great teacher
My biggest pet peeve in the shop is a hissing air hose. Can't stand it, got to fix it. Use Milton parts only.
Really enjoyed that! Thank you for posting.
Look this guy up, he is no joke.
He would have been there all night with my questions. Lol great video learned so much that work station is going to be my first project.
50% of my time is spent going between various tools, a workstation would definitely save time!
If there's one thing we don't have in this hobby/business, it's time!
This man is a fabrication god
he is the master
What's this finger measuring thing? We've been doing this in Australia for yonks. Gene has been around a few Aussies, but doesn't want to let anyone know!
You would think a tool company would listen to the master metal worker and fix their tools.
And give him a helper that actually knows what is going on and maybe even knows how to use a pair of channel lock pliers.
Gene the master
Man is a walking dictionary. One day I wish to have his metal working knowledge. Probably won't as I do to many things already :( 😔
Great DIY tool ideas!!
well done clint.
He'll forget more than we will ever learn...
What I would not give to have his knowledge or him as a mentor. I’m just starting out and need all the help I can get.
Every day is a School day ..........
wht kind of metal u are using. . aluminium sheet or steel ?
must resist urge to strip my entire car, purchase all these tools and attempt to make my own aluminum panels haha. $
But seriously. Must... resist. I so want to strip a miata or mr2 and shape Runge style body for it.
@@danielbuckner2167 try it mate. You will get there JN the end
@@russcooke5671 yeah but I have to finish a few others first!
Thanks a lot. 👍
Winfield is a legend no doubt. But this is another Eastwood video where fabrication is done and what is the use of the end result of the piece. Lazze videos demonstrate not only the equipment use but he fabricates actual parts for a build. I have Eastwood equipment and know the equipment is good to make real pieces for rust repair etc. show more of that
I wonder if drum cymbals are made in this fashion.
Gene from Long Beach 🏖️
Good stuff, sounds like Gene should be on the tool design staff, this files new doesn’t feel right, the first one you made was no good, should weld a t handle on there put your fancy pliers away 💥😆😆😆💥
Not sure if it was mentioned in the video, but what gauge of metal was being used?
it does not matter, these lessons apply to alu or steel in various gauges.
Can someone explain what the point of this is? What are the applications for this stuff besides hvac ducts, vents, etcetera.
You can use these methods to create body panels for vehicles - fenders, door skins, patches, etc.
I wonder how much the guys at Gene's shop charges to make repairs?
Christopher Pugh Gene is coming to Eastwood Headquarters in Pottstown PA to teach a class. Check out www.eastwood.com for more info.
+Christopher Pugh IT DUZNT matter it will b done by the best.....
the best is subjective but i will tell you this....He is far from it.
Links to your sheet metal videos please. If you're better than Gene Winfield, I want to see it.
no crap, i didn't know hq was in pa.
Wish it was captioned.
He has his name painted on his shirt he ain’t no ordinary dude he don’t have to work he don’t have to work.🎶
Somebody aught to check this guy out.
Awesome
"works bitchin" freaking love this video
Is he still around?
Yes, and still doing demos at Eastwood stores.
Jody hells yah. go visit him at his shop
drrudyjones I think him and I are related down through the blood line
I got to meet him he called me about my dads Lincoln mark 8 and a day later he was at our house
Just saw him today at his open house car show, at his shop in Mojave CA
Still doing good.
Isnt pipe thicker than tubing??
Very good
Tell us about the sound if you know what I mean.
The bullseye tool is cool
Idk man. Metalwork has come so far in the last couple decades. I just shook my head and shrugged my shoulders. I guess we’re all standing on the shoulders of giants.
It’s very important to use gloves when you use the wheel…
That way, when you crush your thumb, you have to go through the pain and suffering of not just a crushed thumb, but the joy of getting the glove too
Sounds like he's had a fair bit of soot in his day !
Looks like some copies may come out of china soon :)
Can women do metal work too?
what is the thickness of the interface pad on the DA with 80 grit disk.
Gloves for those machines.that let you release ✋ hand out fast.
Is funny how you can see the reflection on the top wheel.
Master bender
File get dull too
There goes my yellow tin snips
At 90 he'll run around any of us..
