Old habits die hard. These vets can’t let go of 308. Thank you for your service gentlemen.

Your welcome! I have a 6.5 as well. I still do LE training and that is what most of LE is still shooting so I get some time in on a .308 system. I have other calibers as well. What is your go to long range set up?

Yes I do. It’s a great round I gave up Hunting coyote with the 6.5 Grendel and 556 this has a lot more energy on target and a flatter trajectory Bullet of Choice 90 Hornady, CX 2950 ft./s from my 18 inch proof research barrel

Wouldn't it be absolutely amazing for a rifleman to be able to make those same shots without all that custom, high-tech B.S.? Oh wait! The most talented snipers in history did just exactly that!

So I take it from your comment that you still live in a cabin with no electricity, you walk or ride a horse to work, and you use a flint lock rifle. If you do not do all of this then your comment really is trash. The snipers during the Vietnam war were using cutting edge equipment for the time period, same in WWII, and every conflict fought by man. Doesn't sound like to me that you have anything positive to offer. That is what our community should be doing is being positive and sticking together and not trash talking. If my interpretation of your comment is wrong, then explain.

Training programs like "Top Gun" were established because fighter pilots during Vietnam had lost their dog fighting skills. They became too dependent on missiles. Technology is helpful, but it is also very vulnerable. It has a tendency to show up with a dead battery. Even when it works, there may be no time to consult the Kestrel when the shot needs to be made quickly.
I just believe it's important for designated shooters to develop talent of their own separate and apart from what tech has to offer.

@@coeurdelion1540 I agree with you 100 percent! You have to have the fundamentals down, no amount of gear can make you a good shooter if you do not have a solid foundation. We discuss topics like this in class all the time. Electronics fail at the worst possible times. Thats why we still teach how to use your reticle to find your distance to a target. You have to be a rifleman first, then the gear helps make the job easier. If gear fails, you still have to have the knowledge to use the weapon to make the shot.
