Mike, I just want to thank you for everything you do and compliment you on your channel. I don't know you personally, but you seem to be one of the absolute nicest, most genuine people on TH-cam, and I always enjoy your content very deeply. Very well spoken, and a fabulous player.
That was quite an intricate lesson, dude. So many ins and outs and in-betweens and sidewayses. I didn't realize there was so much extra stuff going on throughout that song.
This is pretty much how Tony and I play this in my band. This was in the first 5 songs I learned to play on guitar, and the first I tried to master ☺ So fun, especially when you have a vocalist who can pull it off!
Very good! My band plays Cuda and I want to say all the tips presented are awesome! Over the many times we have played the song, I have naturally adjusted and incorporated some of your tips with out me knowing. Very cool when something like that happens. I did learn some new things that I would love to try out and will be in up coming shows. Thank you very much and keep at it!
Can you a follow up to show us what Ann Wilson is doing? That Howard Stern set from the other day was epic. I’m trying to figure out some of the details there. Would love your take! Also, same for the other songs they did on Howard Stern! Thanks!
Very Cool..Great Lesson. I've struggled trying to play this correctly for years. Getting this to sound exactly like the recording is very challenging..
This is awesome! Love the jacket and the Jackson 🙂.You can really hear the difference in the 2 ways of palm muting, it's crazy. I do love the harmonics in this tune. So many details in this it's mind blowing. If even one of them was missing it just wouldn't be the same.
7:55 i would to the e string power chord with fingers 1&3 and the A-String with 2&4. The typical so called "dave mustaine" move. Super easy, super quick and no gaps in between
I watched Nancy play this at a recent show and it sounded awful. I saw Howard Lesse play it back in 1985 and it sounded outstanding! Roger is a guitarist extraordinaire who is brilliant and ahead of the times. Phenomenal player.
Something about this song's vocal line has always been off-putting to me, but all these guitar part details give me new appreciation for the song. Great vid!
That's a great lesson, great video! I'm not the audience, I play nearly as long as you do (not that great as you do), but you describe very well what you do on the guitar and that video is very good work!
Have you seen the live version from Howard Stern posted a few days ago? Thought band-wise, that was the best it sounded in years. They were so locked into the pocket.
Mike, great lesson. I've played Barracuda but never filled in all of the details that you covered. The song isn't that difficult to play but remembering everything is quite challenging. Have you ever done a lesson about memorization? That's one that I would enjoy.
Hey Doug. Great to see you here! Yeah I did a video about memorization but it's more about an exercise I do to get my brain in shape to memorize. With it you can remember 20-100 things in a row (forward and backward) and although it's kind of a "trick" it still seems to open the channels needed for memorizing all sorts of things. th-cam.com/video/_IJ66tD5zgw/w-d-xo.html
Thanks Doug, yeah you wouldn't believe how many crazy stories I still have in my head that help me retain old lyrics. I can still rap Rapper's Delight. hehe.
Nice vid Mike. Just one small thing. At 6:10 you show those Em harmonics around the 12th and 7th frets. I had the opportunity to ask Howard Leese (Heart) about those at a PRS event and he jokingly said you have to ("of course") play those with your fretting hand *over* the fretboard, not under it.
Howard had just finished a clinic and put his guitar away (gorgeous PRS, of course). I waited until everyone left the room, and I asked him about those harmonics and parts of "Crazy on You." He just said, "Here, let me show you," and then took his guitar back out of its case and gave me a mini-lesson. Such a nice guy!
Mike, this was such a super amazing thing to do. I am going to go through this with a fine tooth comb and refine all of my busted licks I've used in this song. And you're right about hearing multiple guitars doing different parts on the original album. When I listen to it with headphones, I can really get the distinction. I think my favorite thing (besides just all of it) is knowing what the actual harmonics are. You are the master. Did you already do Crazy on You?
Lol, last week I'm galloping on the e chord, and the brain says, "Go to g. And I'm omg, this sounds good. Then i said, "Let me an f sharp. Omg god, what a riff. Then im like, wait a minute? Let me do a harmonic on the g. Wtf....this is heart. Google must've heard me playing it? Because all of a sudden, heart barracuda howard stern shows up in my feed. So i go online and look up the song because i still don't trust myself. I don't trust tabs either they're mostly awful and hard to read. Lol, i had it right. I watched her play it. Why is this song following me?

Me either and it looks so easy good luck man
Heart just played this live on Howard Stern show. Sounded awesome! Thanks for the lesson Mike!
Just saw it. I wonder why they have 4 guitarists.
Howard Stern still has a show? 😂
@@gilblanco.1300 Yeah he doesn't leave his basement.

Check out the performance of this song at California Jam 2. Killer! Roger's showmanship and musicianship on this song at that show was terrific.

Your a very good teacher, easy to follow , and the help with the harmonics was right on the money. Thank you 🎸😁
Awesome, my band is just starting to learn this one, so this is super timely.
I'm taking lessons with Roger starting on Tuesday so this is fun timing 😂
Great lesson. Have always loved this song. Thank you so much. 😎

Best Barracuda lesson ever!🎉❤😊
Saw Heart play in Columbus OH a few weeks ago with Cheap Trick, and it was probably the best show I've ever been to :)
Thanks for giving the tabs while explaining how exactly to play them! Much more helpful than tabs alone!
Awesome lesson, thanks so much!!!
Fisher is a bad ass guitarist
Check out Tom Bukavac his episode "How not to use a Wang bar" He goes over Barracuda and it's cool cause he played with her.
Something about this song's vocal line has always been off-putting to me, but all these guitar part details give me new appreciation for the song. Great vid!
Very accurate and precise stuff ⚡️🎸⭐️
Love these heart lessons where you go into all the wierd heart specific fills and variations.

The hardest thing about this song is finding a drummer that won't come in at the wrong time during the verses
Great stuff Mike…I think those old Heart records have some of the best guitar tones ever recorded!!
Love this song, great tutorial man!
Do u guys think he's wearing Nancys shoes?
Really fun video ! Thanks for this !👍👍👍

What a classic !!!
Mike, Barracuda is a picking & fretting and SWARTZENEGGER finger burnin workout 🔥 Great Video !!!!!

You really need to show this to Plush because they cover this song all the time.
Plush & Moriah Formosa are F'n BADASS !!!!!
Great lesson, please do more of these on bands like pink floyd and that classic rock era.
My goal is 1000 songs on my lesson site.
@@TheArtofGuitar that would be great
This is very informative 👍🏻
Great lesson. You should check out the version from the band The Accused. Another Seattle band that does a killer job on this awesome song.
Fab! Do you play the song Magazine as part of your cover band? It's probably my favourite of all and has some great guitar playing...
Are you actually using those Defender and Robotron marquees because I know a good home for them? 😜
Just got a phaser to come back and learn the song only to realize the guy said it was a flanger. Still sounds pretty close.
Love playing this song.... right.

The A.I. tracking you bro.
It does, i swear. This time it's not a bad thing. I had a discussion with some guy about him putting a pool in and got ads for two months.
Don't you love that one part in Barracuda that sounds like One by Metallica? Inverted fifths are fun.
1:19 yea, it grinds better
Wow🎉🎉🎉🎉
😎
Here from America not Australia
I thought I was gonna learn the 5.6.7.8's song
Sounds like a Flanger
always start a lesson with a quick playthrough-- it gives context and reminds eveyone of the parts
The less I play the actual song the less likely I am to have copyright issues.
@@TheArtofGuitar I guess it is sad but true....that actually makes sense- I am the asshole here!!
I get so frustrated I can't seem to do any of it F my life
He HE. Nancy Wilson is the guitarist not a guy. Maybe do more homework ,,,,,,,you play well my friend
Not a fan of Heart at all.
