I'll show you a quicker way to move an outlet up you wall so you can hide those wires from your wall mounted TV's. By moving the outlet up or adding an additional outlet you will be able to plug your tv and other devises into the outlet and keep all the wires hidden up high.
I've made other videos about running electrical through your ceiling, up the wall and across the walls. This Video is another way to accomplish the same thing but with less steps. In this process I show you how you can run your electrical wire up the wall from the original outlet box without having to remove the box. This saves a lot of time and uses less tools.
The only correct thing he did in this video was having a milwaukee drill 😂😂

Yeah some of these workarounds may not be to code so definitely check with your local code and if you don’t feel comfortable with the job I’d recommend calling a licensed electrician for sure.

That outlet needs to be pigtailed. Safer for the outlet and won’t overload it. I have 3 outlets in one box and pigtailed them.

Yeah, if you have fire blocking the wall, you might have to bypass that piece of wood. Sometimes you can make a small hole in the drywall and drill through the center of that wood and then pass the wire through that. There’s a couple different methods to accomplish this.
Why use multiple bits just use the big one
Drilled a pilot hole first. The larger bit will try to walk on you when drilling at an angle. … plus it’s more dramatic to build up

Well hopefully your wall has a top plate so it won’t make it up to the attic. Lol. You should have no problem catching the end it the new hole above where you want the new outlet box

@@dvk578 yeah your correct, if your trying to run this thing up into the ceiling or somewhere else then yes you’d need to cut the drywall and the drill through your top plate.
But here in this video and a couple others I’ve shown, just running the electrical up a few feet to mount a new plug behind a tv or something. All on the same wall and usually in the same wall cavity between studs.

If you start with a big bit it is a bit harder to get it started at that angle, if it spins or slips it can roll right into the wires and grab those. That could be bad

Fish tape not sticks? Also another trick is to pull the box away from the stud each pull away from the stud you push the other side behind the drywall then when ur done use 2 sheet rock screws or fish your flat head behind the nails and tighten em. Done it both ways. Stay hard

How to drill a hole

Use the knockouts like a normal person. Only time I've ever drilled through a box was to go through the adjacent stud. Even then you could remove the box.
You are correct. The appropriate way would be to use one of the knockouts or remove the box and then install an old work box. I have a couple videos showing the whole entire process done the correct correct way on my channel.

@edwardhoward4542 I’ve pulled a box before but literally had to break it apart and take it out in tiny pieces to minimized damage to the drywall. Cutting the nails would obviously be way easier. What do you use to get in such a tight spot and cut them?

Sawzall with metal blade between box and stud to cut the nails.
If you can fish a wire, this box is plastic ,just pull the tab in back down with a screw driver, or if a gray slater ,spread it out,perfectly legal,or like others said cut the nails. And use a old work, 😮

Don’t use an uninsulated push tape around electricity. Get a fiberglass push tape.

That is very true. This work around technique is not technically to code. Even though the box has holes from the manufacturer to run wires through and making your own technically isn’t much different that what’s already happening, it’s not to code. You are supposed to use the holes provided by the product manufacturer.

You can but it can be a little more work to get your wire past the opening if the flap is still in place. It’s made to grab if pulled on. So you would need to pull or break out that tab of plastic in the factory hole. Then you essentially would be doing the same thing, feeding the wire through

Not legal or safe. Take a look in the upper left and right and lower left and right and see the Mfg. tension tabs molded into the box. They are used to provide tension on the Romex to prevent chafing and wire insulation from being compromised and shorts or in wall fires 🔥 from happening. Drilling holes anywhere in the box and just running wires is a great way to cause a short or fire . AND a great way should their be a fire 🔥 to have the insurance company DENY YOUR CLAIM DUE TO ILLEGAL INSTALLATION. Either educate yourself as a D.I.Y er or hire a licensed electrician AND if this is a licensed electrical contractor doing this type of installation your license should be terminated and revoked!!!!

I agree not the proper or way code would require the installation. I have a full video showing where I remove the old box, running the new wires through a new “old work” box and installing another box up high. This method definitely won’t pass inspection.

I had a journeyman electrician do the exact same thing when I needed a power outlet behind a mounted TV. You sound like a salty electrician that's mad people don't need to pay you $250 for a simple receptacle using 10 amps at best. Save the doomsday message for another sucker.

This is not a practice I would do but it truly is not going to cause a fire because he drilled a hole in the box. Wires are constantly fished through house with no support and this is no different. If the terminals are loose after he installs then I would be more worried

This is against the national electrical code. You’re not supposed to make a whole in the gang box. You need to replace it.

Why didn't you just use the bigger bit in the first place?😅
The bigger bit grabs really fast and is harder to keep on the spot I want to drill. So using a smaller bit first helps with controlling the grab and placement of the hole. Then using that smaller hole as a guide for the larger.
