I wish they had Ron screaming for Hermione as she is being tortured like in the book. That scene always stressed me out because of how hopeless it is and seeing Ron completely panicked and losing his mind by Hermione's screams.

I was at the midnight premiere of Deathly Hallows Pt. 2 when it was released (I saw the 3D version), there were some traumatic deaths there...and a few jumpscare moments.
Also, Domhnall Gleeson (Bill Weasley) is the real-life son of Brendan Gleeson (Alastor "Mad-Eye" Moody), which adds gravity to when Bill declares "Mad-Eye's dead."

22:45 - This is done differently from the books and altered so that Ron looks *so* much worse than he actually was. In the books they actually overhear a conversation from people in the forest about how Ginny, Neville and Luna got caught trespassing in Snapes office at Hogwarts, and were punished. When Harry found out that the punishment they got was *only* to go into the Forbidden Forest with Hagrid he acted as if that wasn't even a punishment at all, it ticked Ron of that Harry seemed so careless about his family member being in danger. Ron said that Harry has no idea what it's like to have to worry about your family like he has to, to which *HARRY* replies "My parents are dead". Ron does NOT yell "YOUR PARENTS ARE DEAD, YOU HAVE NO FAMILY" in Harrys face.
37:50 - Dobby is actually in every single book except first and third! His death is a lot more impactful there, as we see so much more of him

Definitely a good idea to split this one into two, as the book is so thick with detail even a 3 hour film wouldn't have done it justice. Both effectively place Harry, Ron and Hermione in the darkest place possible before offering a narrow road forward. Bellatrix is indeed very crazy and scary, especially the part where she carves 'mudblood' into poor Hermione's arm.

The scene with Dudley was good, and based on something from the book. I thought the scene with Aunt Petunia was pretty stupid, and was not based on anything in the book, IIRC. If I had been Harry in that position, I might not have been able to stop myself from slapping her. All of a sudden, she claims to have loved he sister, and acts like Lily's death was an even greater tragedy for her than for Harry. She's had 16 years to give any such indication - and did not.

They cut things that I really wish they hadn't. Harry and Dudley made amends before they left. Over the two years since the they were attack by the dementors, Dudley realized how poorly he treated Harry. The other is that Voldemort had jinxed his name, meaning that if someone says his name, all protective spells break and Death Eaters know where they are. That's how those two found them in the diner. Also, Dobby returned in the books in The Goblet of Fire, working at Hogwarts and helping Harry out.

The Minister you asked about at the beginning was Rufus Scrimgeour, the new minister of magic. He was introduced in the sixth book, after Fudge resigned. He's a former Auror and very hardline kind of war leader, basically the opposite of Fudge. He became antagonistic toward Harry in book 6, but in book 7 it's stated that Voldemort tortured Scrimgeour to find out where Harry was hidden but Scrimgeour refused to tell, and died to protect Harry. (Bill Nighy, who played him, had humorously grumped that he was the only English actor who wasn't in Harry Potter.)
In the book Viktor Krum (from Goblet of Fire) was at the wedding and became very offended over the symbol Luna's dad is wearing. He says the symbol is associated with Gellert Grindelwald, a Dark wizard from many decades before Voldemort. This becomes an important clue later.
Interestingly, in the book Grindelwald gets a sort of redemption at the very end of his life, by laughingly denying to Voldemort that he ever had the (spoiler), so Voldemort kills him in rage.
Also in the book Harry gifts Regulus' locket (the fake Horcrux) to Kreacher, who adored Regulus. Kreacher is so overwhelmed by the kindness that he becomes extremely loyal to Harry, leading to a touching surprise toward the end.

The movies are lacking so much background detail that its almost not even the same story.

Yep. Horcruxes are exactly like the Ring of Power. They carry the essence of their creators, they have wills of their own, they can negatively affect people around them, they need to be destroyed in order to destroy their creators, and they can only be destroyed by certain means.
And Dasha, you're going to need probably three boxes of tissues, and not because of the death toll.

The death toll is pretty staggering though.

The idea that Ron was greatly affected by the horcrux because he was injured is interesting.

    • @dalehammers4425
      @dalehammers4425 2 ปีที่แล้ว

The books hint at it as well, he was far more seriously injured than the movie portrays. The books go into more details, but the movies are determined to make Ron look stupid and weak.

They don't show the memories about Voldemort that establish that he likes to collect items that he considers trophies. The ring actually belonged to his grandfather then his uncle. The locket belonged to is mother and was a Slytherin heirloom. In the books Harry and Dumbledore did have some idea of what items Voldemort had turned into horcruxes. Harry wasn't just searching for some random items.

Hey Dasha, there's a couple of deleted scenes from this film that explained why Harry's in the Dursley house alone:
One where Harry And Petunia are talking, Petunia's expressing that she really didn't want to leave that house and harry convincing her that if Voldemort's people suspected that she, Vernon or Dudley knew where Harry was they'd torture them to find out where he is
And there's one where Dudley's telling harry that he's not a waste of space when he'd questioned why Harry was staying behind

What wasn't mentioned is that Riddle's Ring is also a Horcrux and that Dumbledore injured himself destroying it (his right hand), so TWO Horcruxes are already destroyed at this point, the Ring and the Diary. What the sixth movie didn't show was that Dumbledore made Harry understand that Voldemort wanted to collect famous artifacts and thus some of the other horcruxes must be other Hogwards founders objects.
Fudge was fired at the end of Order of the Phoenix, Rufus Scrimgeour replaced him from that point. What the 6th movie didn't show as well was the attempts by Scrimgeour to integrate Harry into the Ministry's propaganda around the fight against Voldemort. They were pretending to do something when in fact they are completely outmatched. Harry refused to help them because of what happened with Umbridge and other mediatic shenanigans. He preferred to stay alongside Dumbledore because he knew that Dumbledore was the only one to really have a plan against Voldemort and knew what he doing.
Hermione protects her parents by modifying their memory (in the book she didn't obliviate them and sent them to Australia with another life in their memory with the hope to reverse the modification when the trouble ends.
The Dursleys were dent away by The Order of the Phoenix to protect them as they are related to Harry. They accepted on their own volition, they didn't need to have a modified memory. Petunia knows the risks.
Dasha, Muggle Studies is an optional subject, I highly doubt that Draco took that class, seriously. If memory serves, even Harry (and Hermione? obviously she could take it to have another Outstanding mark...) and Ron didn't take that class either.
They are being attacked as soon as they pass the protection boundaries around the house.
Death Eaters NEVER cared in the first place Dasha.
In fact you have already met Dumbledore's brother, sort of, he runs the Hog's Head inn in Hogmeade, where Harry had his metting to found Dumbledore's Army club in Order of the Phoenix.
What the 6th movie didn't mention (again) is that Grimmauld Place was given in Sirius's Will to Harry (the Elf Kreacher also belongs to him).
The real Bathilda was dead for months and that trap as set by Voldemort in case Harry came to Godric's Hollow...
Priore Incantato is the spell to see a wand's last spell, it was what activated between Voldemort and Harry's wand in the fourth movie.
Peter Pettigrew has a more grewsome end in the book, when Harry reminds him that he spared him, Peter spares him in return and the magical hand Voldemort gave him strangles him for this treason.
The book is so revelation heavy that one movie alone wouldn't have been enough to wrap it up correctly.

Nice to see you. As good as this was the book was still better. Nice to listen to in the car.. Harry made up with Dudley. Hermione gives up her family. The seven Potters was great. Hedging had to die. Harry made a deal with Kreacher that earned his loyalty. Because of this loyalty, Harry could have called him and he would have helped. He just as easily called Dobby. There was no need to wear the locket. Just put it in Hermione's purse. More cracks in Draco's armor. Bellatrix just a bad bad girl. RIP Dobby. You make me smile.
