It's a shame Luna was introduced so late in the series. She's one of the best characters. And just PERFECT casting.
Absolutely she is! Luna along with Hagrid and Professor McGonagall are actually my three favorite characters in the whole series.
I like her.
Luna and Dobby are my 2 favorites from the books. Luna is played exactly as I pictured her when I read the books.

The thing about Umbridge is we all know someone or people like her. That's why it's more relatable to hate her
Imelda Staunton did an amazing job playing a character who was more hated than the story's main villain. The fact that Umbridge was more hated than Voldemort himself makes the scene where she gets carried away like firewood by the centaurs that much more satisfying.
Also, when I first saw Grawp, I thought he looked like the illustrated kid on the cover of MAD Magazine

In a review of the Order of the Phoenix novel, author Stephen King (Pet Sematary, The Shining) hailed Umbridge as one of the best antagonists he has ever read: The gently smiling Dolores Umbridge, with her girlish voice, toadlike face, and clutching, stubby fingers, is the greatest make-believe villain to come along since Hannibal Lecter.
She actually is a very Kingish type of villain with that arrogant, smirking malevolence in an unassuming package.

She's so hated, even more than Voldemort, because everyone knows someone like Umbridge. Voldemort is too abstract, two distant.
@@stefanlaskowski6660 exactly this. Just about everyone has had to deal with an Umbridge. Nobody has ever had to deal with a Voldemort. He's your basic "power greedy villain willing to do whatever it takes to win." And Dolores could be your aunt/uncle, your principal/teacher, your mom/dad, your boss, your neighbor, your ex. That fake smile, the blatant gaslighting and manipulation, the underhanded comments deflecting blame onto you. Everyone has dealt with someone like her at least once so it hits home for a lot of people.
@@stefanlaskowski6660 Plus Voldemort is given a backstory (in the books) which makes him pitiful and at times relatable. You know why he's the way he is. Umbridge is just a bitch for no reason. And that's why I usually skip this book and movie when rereading and rewatching the series. She just makes me so angry.
Snape btw is my personal favorite character in these movies period. He's deep, complex, and has motives all of his own that very few know of. Played masterfully by the late Alan Rickman
also the best actor in these movies imo
I may be wrong, but Alan rickman knew what was going on in the books, he was the only one that knew where the Harry Potter book series was going to go, I believe that he got a copy of the books so he could better play snape
He's a fucking creep. He got the Potters murdered by snitching to the wizard Nazis and only flipped because the girl he had a creepy obsession over got clipped too. The girl that he screamed slurs at the last time he spoke to her.
That's before you get to the relentless traumatized child bullying.
He's a greasy piece of shit and doesn't really hold up to any scrutiny.
@@syn420951 Rowling did tell Mr. Rickman what would happen to his character in the end, and Rickman promised to keep the information from everyone until the very end.

This and the next "Half Blood Prince" are the best in the series. Yes, it was good in the stories how as they grew the challenges of life and the dangers they choose to expose themselves grow in difficulty and stakes; just as life gifts us.
And regarding Umbridge, the bigger the smile, the bigger the lie.
I also think Half blood prince is one of the best. Especially the sountracks "Inferi in the firestorm" and "Dumbledore's Farewell" are sooo good.

Umbridge is the only person who produces a patronus when she is torturing or being evil to someone she enjoys it that much.
You're not gonna believe where this story takes you in the next few movies!!!! Can't wait to see it with you!
Oh, BTW, in case you needed MORE reason to hate her - Here's a list of horrible things Umbridge did in the book, that weren't shown in the movie:
- She was the one who sent the two Dementors after Harry over the Summer (to force Harry to use underage magic, so he'd be expelled)
- Harry had FAR more detentions than just the one shown in the movie
- She lied to Filch, and told him Harry was ordering dungbombs, to have an excuse to read his mail
- She attacked and injured Hedwig, to read a letter she was delivering to Harry
- She tried to catch Sirius when he was using the fireplace to talk to Harry (hence why he never tried that again)
- She let a petty criminal off, in exchange for him spying for her (not sure if that was her specifically, but she was the one he gave his info to, so she was at least in on it)
- She banned Harry, Fred, and George from the Gryffindor Quidditch team
- She acts completely racist (speciesist?) towards Hagrid, and does everything she can to make him look bad in her inspection
- Speaking of her prejudice, she has also apparently drafted anti-werewolf legislation (making it really hard for people like Lupin to find a job)
- She has also apparently campaigned to have Merpeople rounded up and tagged
- She gives Filch permission to whip (yeah - _whip_ ) misbehaving students
- She brought several wizards to violently force Hagrid to resign
- She and said wizards attack McGonagall when she tries to stop them taking Hagrid, nearly killing her
If I ever hate an actual living human as much as I hate Umbridge, I will wind up in prison for a very long time.

Gonna defend some that you put:
- she lied about Dungbombs to read his mails because she was suspecting him being in touch with Sirius which he was. She also suspected Dumbledore having an army so any mention of that would be desired by her and she was right about this as well.
- Her trying to catch Sirius when he is using the fireplace to communicate with Harry isnt a bad thing. Sirius is a fugitive and she is an employee of the ministry so doing her job to catch a wanted criminal.
-She banned Harry, Fred and George for starting a physical fight after the quidditch game.
-she let a petty criminal off so she’s bad? Surely the whole order is bad for associating and using Mundungus Fletcher for help when he is a criminal as well.
-tbh she’s not the only one against werewolves. Even Lupin’s dad was anti werewolf before his son was bit and is the reason he got bit due to his negative words about werewolves and how they only deserve death. He was a good person who was anti-werewolf.
I do dislike her but there are characters I hate more than her in the series.
@@denizkenger52 who would you hate more that unbridge? Pls let me know. I never read hp4 and 5. Rest every Harry Potter books I have read and re-read again. Loved it to bits. I think hp4 and 5 was not available in our library. Or maybe someone got it, as there was only one copy of it, before I got it. Either one of the reason. Me personally I love the books more (a lot more) than the movies.

As frustrating as this one was, in retrospect I think it's one of the best. Great subversion of the usual formula, Potter learning a lot of hard lessons, and a note-perfect rendition of a villain so horrifying Stephen King admires her. A lot of the Ministry propaganda seen here were born from frustration at the actions of the Tony Blair administration in Britain at the time, but wide-sweeping enough to apply to any government that values appearance over protecting its people from legitimate threats.
Umbridge always made me think of Mary White House.
Umbridge's actress, Imelda Staunton, is such an absolute kind and sweet lady in real life, but she did such an incredible job portraying Umbridge as the pure evil that she is, perhaps because she said she accepted right away that she's a monster and should be portrayed as such.
21:45 "What is swine?" A "swine" is another name for a pig with the intent to insult under this context.
This movie was a commentary on media, like a lot, and how it can mislead and influence the public and it does a really good job of portraying it realistically.
Also has a great plot line in general to it :)
Not to mention the conceit of running peoples lives "for their own good."
That's the difference between Umbridge and Voldemort; she is after power in the name of doing good, while he is just after power. I don't recall who, but some famous person is the origin of a quote that few things are more frightening than seeing someone using "any means necessary" to ensure the greater good.
@@Caseytify she’s in it for the sake of petty cruelty, with power being the facilitator. She isn’t really a fanatic doing anything for the greater good as she sees it, she’s just a bully.
Luna is like parsley in salad. Without it you can make a good salad but with parsley it becomes marvellous salad.
Dolores Umbridge! Just when you thought you saw the worst out of the defense against the dark arts teachers, she comes along.
well to be fair Professor Lupin was not a bad person or bad teacher either. And the real professor Moody is also a good person. So if the real Moody was teaching it would've been okay. And Lupin had to unfortunately retire because of the circumstances around him :(
Compared with Quirrel, Lockhart, and Barty Crouch jr. Umbridge is definitely the worst
As it turns out, Harry Potter was one of the best and most effective defense against the dark arts teachers Hogwarts has ever had.

Luna Lovegood is my fave character in the series. The actress they cast for her was so good too.
I really like hermiones line “it’s kind of exciting isn’t it, breaking the rules, because usually she follows rules, but this movie (and all the others really like in the first movie she’s willing to sneak out at night to stop the philosophers stone being stolen) shows she’s happy to break the rules sometimes, if she believes that the rules are stupid or the reason she’s breaking then are too important. which i think is pretty similar to me.

Swine literally means pig. As an insult, it can mean a variety of things depending on context, emphasis and intonation. At its mildest, it might be said with a smile to a friend who is mercilessly beating you at a game. Said more seriously, it calls someone contemptible and rude. The way Snape said it, he was calling James Potter a worthless, vicious, sadist.
There's a big reason why Harry stays at the Dursleys. He is protected there because his aunt has the same blood as his mother.

It's never explained in the movies, but there IS a reason Harry has to return to the Dursleys every Summer.
Basically, because Harry was protected from Voldemort as a baby, due to his mother's sacrifice, Dumbledore was able to devise a spell that would keep Harry safe from Voldemort as long as he lives where his mother's blood dwells (ie, with her sister). So, until he turns 17 (which is when wizards come of age), Voldemort can't touch him while he's with the Dursleys.
Petunia knows about this, which is why she agreed to take Harry in (however reluctantly), rather than leave him at an orphanage.
But he can send anyone else to kill him. So Voldemort just stupid for trying to always be the one to kill him. Could’ve easily sent Barty to kill him but no, he has to keep to the prophecy rules as if that prophecy is good for him.

The protection his mother gave him through her sacrifice lasts as long as he is with family. That's why he keeps going back
No, it lasts forever. The magic protecting him when at the Durselys is an extension of that protection, which was casted by Albus Dumbledore and sealed using Petunia. The two protections are not the same.
@@denizkenger52 it does not last forever, as that spell ends when he turns 17. If it lasted forever, the dursleys wouldn't have had to leave, it wasn't just to protect and hide them. We can't say much else bc she hasn't read the books and I don't want to ruin anything for her.

The protection given by his mother lasts forever and wherever regardless of who he is with.
The other protection which is an extension of that protection set by his mother, using a spell casted by Dumbledore is the one that only protects him when he is with the Dursleys (petunia) and expires at the age of 17.
Lily’s sacrificial protection is forever and isn’t dependant on where he is.
The bond of blood charm using Petunia and Harry is the one that expires when Harry reaches 17.

Yeah, the movies messed that part up. Dobby came in warning the DA that Umbridge was on her way, and everyone ran for it.

One of my favorite moments in the entire book series is in Goblet of Fire when Dobby wakes Harry on the morning of the second triwizard task. Dobby took the gillyweed from Snape’s store (not Neville) and was in a panicked frenzy for Harry. “Dobby cannot let Harry Potter lose his Wheezy!”

The book version of Umbridge was SO much worse. She's a little unpleasant here. She's a five-star in the book. The Twins final acts was also better in the book by far. Most of all though, the fight in the Ministry and the way that one sad thing happened. were expanded on and different it was a different spell in the book, and it left the door open that a rescue or some other reversal could be done.

i always think it’s good to read the whole prophecy as it’s written in the order of the phoenix book to ill type it to you “The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord approaches... born to those who have thrice defied him, born as the seventh month dies... and the Dark Lord will mark him as his equal, but he will have power the Dark Lord knows not... and either must die at the hand of the other, for neither can live while the other survives... the one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord will be born as the seventh month dies...”

All of the movies are really good, but you should read the books once you're done. The books have so much that had to be left out of the movies.
When watching this movie back it makes me think about the insane Rona policies we had in 2020.
When umbridge said: " students are not permitted within 10 inches of eachother".
I literally screamed: "that actually happened !" 🤣🤣
Except for the minor detail that they were trying to limit a pandemic that had the potential to be deadlier than the Flu pandemic of 1918.
Not saying I approve of the government measures, but they were facing a genuine health threat.

It's kind of funny that this movie introduces three of my favourite characters: Luna of course because of her lovely personality and also Bellatrix and Dolores Umbridge. Bellatrix is just batshit crazy but Umbridge is just evil and not in the obvious way like Bellatrix or Voldemort. After this movie, I actually bought pink clothes to play her on Halloween 😅
I recommend Lost in space Gary oldman plays an antagonist.

Harry gets Sirius killed. Voldemort needs Harry to go the Ministry to pick up the prophecy. So he tricks Harry with the fake vision of Sirius being tortured because Harry never bothered to learn to control his mind even though Snape and Dumbledore foresaw something like this. Harry is undisciplined, arrogant, impulsive. Others plead with Harry to verify Sirius is in trouble, but Harry so wants to be the Big Damn Hero he rushes into the trap. Despite Umbridge Snape can contact the Order, but Harry is too full of hate after learning his Daddy was a vicious bully. and doesn't ask Snape. It was Snape that warned the Order something was wrong at the ministry. So Harry blunders in so the Order has to rescue him, and that's what exposes Sirius and gets him killed.
Also in mythology centaurs are known for their wisdom. They're also known for being rapey. Some speculate delightedly about Umbridge and the centaurs.
I don’t get why Harry can’t stay with Ron and his family instead of going back to his abusive home ? Like I’m sure Ron’s family would love having him there
