Nice trick! I've been in a similar jam and I melted a few drops of Babbitt into the socket. It's soft enough to allow you to conform to the spark plug but hard enough that it will twist it out without stripping
It was a craftsman, I have tons of them from auctions and such, cheaper sockets would work to but iv had them split sometimes doing this, the craftsman’s never do. Never a proponent of tool abuse but it works when you really need to get a plug out
Hi my name is Burt, and my predicament is a little different. I was in the process of changing my sparkplug and I encountered a situation where one of them reached a point where it just kept going around but I can't unscrew it out of the head. Help!
I changed 3 of my spark plugs no problem until I got too the fourth one and after messing with it for a week I have stripped it I am using a 9/16th mm 2012 Nissan Altima . I will try this
This would have been my last choice but I got a deep well bolt extractor kit but only needed the one in 5/8 and it worked ridiculously well. I seriously popped the plug loose so easily that I wasn’t quite sure at first if it was even loose. I ordered a set of “Irwin” brand ones from Amazon but they were delayed so I went to the local auto parts shop and got a “Die Hard” brand kit
Just had this exact situation happen on my Mercedes. Shop tightened the spark plug so hard the hex nut was almost as round as a ring. Took a smaller socket, heated it, and tapped it on with a hammer, let it cool and now it’s out! You are a legend for this video and saved me so much money.
I've been at this for days with my truck. Same engine. Our issue is its the 3rd back on the passenger side so we can't get enough room or the right angle to really get a good whack at it. Already removed everything we can That's in the way. Any tips?
I would find a way to remove the oil first like like shoving absorbent paper towels down there first and Mayby follow up with some cleaner after a majority of the oil is out. You want to remove as much flammable liquid as possible before trying this technique
Oh man. I have a socket tip end that stuck in the hole. I’m trying glue over night. I grabbed the wrong socket. Tips on removing the stuck socket. I think it’s wedged. I don’t have an impact wrench. I’ll try hammer and glue in the morning. Thanks.
Yes. I used a socket too big. I was afraid to keep going lefty. I finally got it. The correct sized smaller socket worked easy. It was just too big and it was lodged. I hammered and kept going left and it finally came out. That was fear. Thanks.
Just wondering where you are located? 05 ford f150 5.4, exact same plug hole. The only part of spark plug remaining in hole is the very bottom. The lisle extractor is not grabbing the electrode. Suggestions please!!!
Just wanted to thank you for this trick. Had a plug that rounded off, could not get it off with the Irwin bolt bite set. Burned thru 6-14 mm sockets 12 pt with exentions using map gas torch to heat sockets till glowing red. Got 1 use out of each socket teeth rounded out. GOT A HUSKY BRAND DEEP KNURL SOCKET FROM HOME D. Finally got that bitch off no breaking of plug. Thanks again
Just did one of these that was a flat gasket type plug with a lot of torque against the head but not jammed on the threads. I was lucky in that the porcelain all came out. I used a part of a cigarette filter to plug the hole so chips would stay out of the cylinder and drilled the head part off so that it released the tightness and used easy-out to get the threaded part.
some of my plugs came out with 5/8 socket, but then I got to the ones that looked older. I broke off the tip with needle nose pliers. I think ill try the 9/16 to see if it works.
Did you just say SPARK PLUG and IMPACT WRENCH in the same sentence?!! I have torture devices in my backyard just for idiots who use impacts on spark plugs. Whoever is practicing this technique needs to be drawn in quartered. Cannot tell you how many engines have been nearly ruined because someone needed to take a impact to a spark plug. I have been servicing cars for over 20 years and have never seen a spark plug come shooting out of the cylinder, so no idea why folks use impacts on plugs.

Just had this issue and this worked like a charm! Thanks
Great info, I've been there pain in the ass. Great job.
THANK YOU, saved me a ton of money and time, got 6 out of 8 out no problem
Awesome, I’m glad you found the video useful
Thank you so much! This helped me!
This was actually a huge help to me - thanks so much for the tribal knowledge!
Your most welcome, glad I could help
WILL THIS WORK ON MY PT CRUSER 2.4 IT'S A 2004 ?
good tip, thanks
Interesting solution. I will have to keep it in mind if I ever need it down the road. Just curious, what brand socket was that?

Thanks for the advice 🙂
I hope you found it useful
You’re the man!! I just did this and it worked beautifully 👍🏼. Thank you
I’m glad it helped you out
Thanks Sir this video I got it time ,I had this problem hope it will help me too
God bless you Sir you are a genius

I hope it works for you, I have a pretty good record with this method

Yes this is for sure a last ditch effort way to get them out, I’ll have to check out that kit you described

but he could show the process right?
@@Gamerboss10 next time I need to do this I will from start to finish

@@AngelBartelds is the spark plug really rounded bad or does it still catch a bit on the socket
I have this issue but a lot of oil in there a lot so not sure if it’s alright what you think brother let me know

So the socket itself is stuck down on the plug and came off the extension

It should push the electrode down a bit and bite into the metal body of the plug
Yeah, not working at all!
@@harleyjackson5513 do you hear it pushing it down or did it already and it’s just not grabbing
It pushed down already and is not grabbing. Ty
@@harleyjackson5513 do you have any other kinds of extractors you can try to put down there, I believe a number 4 spiral one will also fit

Sometimes they can be a bear for sure, iv gone to using 6 point sockets for this as well with good success, but some plugs just don’t want to come out
I’m going to try this did you get the husky glowing red and hammered it on? And what size 13 0r 14? I have a 4.6 v8
good to know brother
Lmao perfect, same engine that I got and everything
That was kool

My spark plug shell came out (part with the hex) but the plug is still in the hole. 5.4. How do I take it out?

Harbor freight sale a eazout icon brand get one that fits the hole, they have worked for me in the past..

Sometimes if there slightly rounded, a metric socket will fit on them pretty snug
Same issue . Same truck 🤦🏾♂️
How to u get a spark plug that is rounded off too a circle shape same method or what please let me know
Great survival skills when in a jam... thanks for the demo • Honest²
You’re welcome and thank you for watching
i cant do this technique to my car ,,the rear spark plug is very tight
Some plugs are just crazy hard to get to unfortunately, and hammering through universal joints on sockets really lessens the force to drive them on
It's a 14mm not a 9/16 put a plug in a deepwell of both and look at the play
Nice idea but no need to be as long as it is. Thanks either way
Thank you for watching it

I know, people think even using a smaller battery operated impact is ok and that’s just crazy
I'm gonna use a impact just cause you said that lol
i actually have had a spark plug literally **>>EXPLODE!
