John Williams is a national treasure. What he talked about here, composing distinct themes for each character that accumulate emotional impact as you watch those characters develop and interact, is so difficult that very few film composers even attempt it. But when it's done right, it is extremely powerful. That's a huge reason why his scores are the most memorable.

The professional Batman Superman duo. I'm happy the duo has never been halted by ego and that we are able to get an interview from them while they're still alive and well. Didn't know I needed this but I guess I do. 😅

A real pleasure to watch, and thanks to John Williams, when I was swimming in the sea and my brother kayaked past while playing jaws music on his phone, I broke all sorts of records heading to shore! There's real power in his scores!

Musical genius + Nobody does it better = John Williams. Steven Spielberg & John Williams are the BEST of the best in story telling and that's all there is to it. And now I need to go watch one of their movies! :)

"The Reivers" is one of my fave Steve McQueen movies & for years was one of his least known, because it's a comedy-drama rather than his expected action films; but McQueen's character is still "the rebel", & a unusually likable one, too. And yes, John Williams score is beautiful!

Williams has a rare gift: he can hear the music in an onscreen image. Reminds me of that guy Andre Antunes who did heavy metal guitar riffing to “Pastor” Kenneth Copeland’s televangelist ministry rantings in the past few years. Some people can just hear the notes behind the mise-en-scene or dialog or visual effects.

Spielberg and Williams were such a match made in heaven on par with Martin Scorsese and his editor, Thelma Schoonmaker. My favourite director and my all time favourite music composer (not just for cinema, in any capacity). I love these two. You can tell they both really get the other, and they both beautifully complement the other in a similar way to Hitchcock and Herrman or Leone and Morricone.

I think what we see here is a strong synergistic and empathic understanding of each other's strengths and weaknesses. I'm sure John does a thorough sampling in front of Steven before each film to see what he prefers. It's a good lesson in trust.

Amazing interview - especially when Stephen Colbert asks them if the reason they never had one disagreement in 29 films was because the director and composer knew how to stay in their own lands, and Spielberg answered "I think it's more because we're in the SAME lane"...wow! Looking forward to pt. 2 next week.

Genius x2. But John Williams, well I hope he knows how much his music means to people. There are no words to describe his talent but Steven gave it a go. What a wonderful gift he has given to this world with his musical vision.
