Back in '64 their hair was outrageously long! Lead singer Eric Burden came from the northeast of England which has it's own very distinctive accent. The Bass player is Chas Chandler who discovered and promoted Hendrix. A great band, in competition with the Beatles, they made some great music. Lovely reaction, this little old English lady thanks you.

Eric Burden was 23 when they recorded this, looked like he was 18 and sounded like 50, a young man from England singing like that I just unbelievable. He's 79 now. The secret to being that loud and seemingly unbothered is to sing from the diaphragm, where the lungs meet your stomach.

Agreed, Eric Burdon was one of those people who sounded NOTHING like what you might expect by looking at them. There was this joke ever since he started performing (that people still tell) that he's a 24-year-old lad who looks like he's 17 and sounds like he's 54. Pretty accurate.

Took my dad (72 years old) to see Eric Burdon perform in Nov 2018 and he still sounds great. My dad last saw him perform in '67 so seeing my dad's reaction when Eric Burdon came out was awesome and surreal. But to be honest, seeing most of the crowd which are my dad's generation react and act like teenagers/young 20's, was awesome.

The band achieved a major breakthrough with "The House of the Rising Sun" in 1964. Burdon claimed that recording the piece took him only 15 minutes as, to him, singing that song that he had already been singing at age 16 was simply routine.

This song is only 4 years older than I am. My hippie mom played this song sooo many times. I know the lyrics backwards and forwards from my childhood. There's so many good memories associated with this song, even though it's sad. Eric Burdon is one helluva vocalist, but the whole band is just on point on this song. Back in the day, only casinos and brothels were open all night. That's the whole "house of the rising sun" idea. It's so sad, but it has one righteous vibe to it.

Chas Chandler, the bassist, left The Animals in 1966. He discovered Jimi Hendrix in NYC and brought him to England where The Jimi Hendrix Experience was formed. He managed the band until the album "Electric Ladyland" because he felt it was self-indulgent. He went on to manage the group Slade. He died in 1996 at the age of 58 of an aortic aneurysm.

Nice breakdown. I think Electric Ladyland is a phenomenal album though. Chandler came outta the world of 3 minute pop songs though, and always told Jimi and Mitch how the House of the Rising was cut 1st take. Jimi was a different artist, a perfectionist, and an explorer. Guess it was time to part ways. Chandler did a lot of good for Jimi, except getting him under contract with Mike Jefferies( in the long run anyways). ✌

If you wanna hear the lead singer talk, search for "Eric Burdon Interview". Your reactions are BRILLIANT!!
"Spill The Wine" is another cool tune he did.

The keyboardist and vocalist were phenomenal!!! The singer was so young that no one would have anticipated such power, maturity and soulfulness from him. An amazing voice and delivery. And what could be said about the keyboardist? Such incredible, stylistic playing, again from someone so young. This was a little like that white guy, “blue-eyed soul” we got from The Righteous Brothers.
The unadorned simplicity and innocence of an earlier era in this almost high school gymnasium level performance from the early years of rock, reaching back to when most television was still broadcast in black and white video. 🧨🧨

What does this song; Black Betty by ram jam; Gallows pole by Led Zep ;Cotton fields and Midnight train by C.C.R ;Where did you sleep last night and Ain't it a shame by Nirvana all have in common?
They where all recorded by a African American folk/Blues man from the 20/30's. named Huddie Ledbetter, better known as lead belly.Could you please react to one or more of the above in Honor of this great but little known artist?😄🇨🇦

It was great to see that video again and to see your reaction to it, it brought back so many memories and made me feel a bit tearful. i was 13 when this song was at the top of the charts. All the members of the group went on to do great things in their own right as they were all so talented. As others have mentioned Chas Chandler went on to manage Jimi Hendrix and brought him worldwide fame. Jimi is one of my all time heroes, I saw him at the Royal Albert Hall in London the year before he died, Sept 1970, he was only 27 so it must have been 68/69 when I saw him. I still have the ticket in a drawer somewhere. My friend was given front row seats by her boss as he'd been given them by a client but he wasn't a fan so we got them instead. My God what a night that was, I still remember it to this day. Perhaps you could think about giving your view on a JH track, although there are so many "All Along the Watchtower", "Purple Haze". "The Wind Cries Mary", "Hey Joe", "Voodoo Child". They will probably blow your brains out. 😅
