We spend an entire day in North Carolina looking for a collection that mysteriously vanished. The cards we came into town for...have gone missing? Misplaced? Stolen? What happened to this collection? Buying Sports Cards can be painful and discouraging.
*IMPORTANT* -- These filming sessions aren't scripted, so when we are reacting...we are reacting in real-time. For this collection or any that we see, we can only respond to what we discussed pre-trip vs.. what we see in-person. We spent the entire day with Kevin and his family (Uncle & Aunt). We believe their family is tight knit and looking out for each other. In fact, their hospitality was absolutely amazing the entire day. We can't speak highly enough of how they treated us.
That guy is a real Scum Bag to bring in other buyers as your looking at the stuff. I would be pissed.
“Things don’t always go your way, but here, look at the chickens 🐓 “ - TY 😂 😂
😆 🤣 😂 😹
Sometimes you just gotta look at the chickens. At least a deal got done. We’ve all been there.
@@jjmoss5 no doubt
Chickens for the win!
Gotta admit this guy was defintly passionate about his family God Bless him
Sounds like Uncle Terry grabbed the cream of the crop.
carefull...Uncle T in the comments responding. lol
The fact they kept saying “he had some in the house still” kept me scratching my head. Like, go get them then lol
@@crankycardguy1369Lmao u got me crying with uncle T 😂😂😂😂
Lol, never seen somebody so excited another buyer showed up! That worked out great though, having to haul a bunch of commons across the country + plane tickets would have eaten up any potential profit and from the looks of it there wasn't much profit in the first place.
Unc was finessing behind the scenes for sure... Feel bad for Kevin but I’m glad it worked out for him and for you lol. I know regardless you would’ve hooked him up and taken care of him, but the card shop dudes saved your ass big time 🤣🤣 you said “we will help you load it all if you want to just buy it” lmao
Honestly I think the uncle picked all the good stuff and tried to dump the garbage on you. The have some of the cards on eBay gave me that idea.
Ya know I was thinking the same thing every good card was pulled from binders atleast they got the $3000 tho for his daddy
🤙😜😁🤘💯
I agree
Agreed. And they had cards already listed on ebay.. but that's how it goes sometimes and glad Ty was aware enough to understand this
That's always the risk of buying massive collections. However, I'd bet the uncle didn't go through everything. It's so big.
I got that vibe right away that he cherry picked.....its all an experience.
The way that was handled and turned out was really impressive. I buy collections on the east coast around upstate New York and have had situations just like this where the buyer got really upset when I informed them there just wasn't enough value in a nothing but commons collection to purchase it. Props to Chasing Cardboard for handling that the right way.
Where in upstate NY? I have a collection I’m looking to get rid of. Unfortunately it isn’t a high dollar but if you are interested in bulk lmk
@@oldhickory2355 I am around Albany but would be up for a car trip?
@@oldhickory2355where about in upstate are you located, I'm from upstate and buy also
Each episode takes on a life of its own. This is probably why I can't get enough of this series. I know that I'm going to see real people in real situations, centered around sports cards. Ty keeps things moving in such a calm and collected manner, and the production team makes us feel like we are right there with him.. I loved this episode just as much as the rest. great job!
Wait until you see what was filmed this past week!
That’s why chasing cardboard is top notch. Ty and the group is obviously looking to make money but are willing to bite there tongue and help the man out. Respect folks respect
Thanks for watching.
Seemed like a wonderful person and a kind heart. I know his family misses him alot.
The uncle was actively selling stuff on ebay and still having buyers come even tho Ty was there. You know damn well he picked thru all that.
100% somebody cherry picked that shit. Assuming Kevin wasn't aware, I feel bad for him and I think he got taken advantage of.
Edit: I'll also add it's not fair to assume the Uncle did it, but somebody cherry picked the collection at some point.
I never took anything from this collection other than what Kevin's sister was given from Ricky.. A few Jordan's and several fake cards.. I have no reason to take anything from my brother's collection.. I am very hurt by this whole ordeal.. Wish I had never touched anything on this..
Oh ya every big name had an empty spot open in the binders. That’s terrible.
@prolificcardcollector that was the giveaway for me. When Ty knew exactly what number cards to look for and Jordan or Kobe was the only ones missing.
And it was his right to sell through and go through it alot of act entitled like cards are garbage if its not super huge cards 😂 I laugh at dudes like u legit
I believe Kevin was oblivious to the whole situation, but everyone else was absolutely full of crap.
The card shop guys especially. Seems like they rushed over pretty quickly once it was discovered this collection had been cherry picked.
Again, I reiterate what I’ve said on another episode. First and foremost, I would call and request pics of the key cards that were used to entice you to buy these collections, and if they aren’t able to confirm that they’re still in their possession, then the deal is off. Guess we can thank the uncle for screwing you over on this one, but glad you could help him out with his family’s expenses.
These are the sort of videos that elevate my respect for Ty and the Staff. It's actually nice to see an episode where all things don't work out. We need to see sometimes that this hobby can be challenging and isn't what everyone on social media makes us believe. Obviously in this situation, the owner of the collection really didn't know what he had or what had been done to it before he got to it. Hats off to Ty and the staff for making this work for everyone. Looking forward to the next episode!
The Jordan missing from the book with stiff pages, in the middle, with all other pages full of the set. 😢 Ty is a Saint for his patience.
Yet again this just showed the ACTUAL world that exists within the hobby. Collectors love their cards, but they get overwhelming and eventually can become a huge burden on someone else in the family. This is real. Thank you CC team for not being afraid to show the not-sexy part of the hobby.
Agreed.
Thanks for watching.
you made the right call to let someone else mess with it. seems some of the family had already went through it, unknown to Kevin. Let this be a lesson to everyone. Get your collections organized and under control, so your family isnt left with dealing with a mess.
Loved this episode guys you know I truly believe it’s better to give than to receive and the fact you all didn’t buy it for 500-1500 really fast and take advantage of a man in a tough spot really shows how genuine you all are. Now saying that don’t do this too much or else you’ll waste too much money on travel costs etc 😂 . I’m from Kentucky so I’m looking forward to seeing what’s back home!!! Keep doing your thing guys much love and support!!!
You’re a good man, Ty. Love the show. You, and your videos, help the Vets I work with. They battle PTSD, and love going through cards, and opening packs. You give them hours of peace. I try and them cards(whenever I can), and we sit down and watch your videos. Much appreciate, brother🇺🇸. Sincerely, LT Quinn Mallonee
Ty I can see the frustration all over you. Man I feel so bad for Kevin. I honestly think someone pulled it out from under him and took advantage of him. So glad it all worked out for him. And looks like you helped out in the end. You are a special soul my man.
Ty, you’re a great guy! Paying it forward. It will come back three fold to you! 🙏🏻
I loved this episode because similar situations happen all the time when trying to buy collections. There can be a ton of volume but volume doesn’t equal value. It nice to see the videos showing the big wins but it’s nice to keep it real and show the deals that don’t work out in your favor.
The shop owner got the inventory he needed and and Ricky got the money for the family. Ty and his crew helped facilitate a deal.
Great point! Thanks for watching.
Not sure what happened to the missing cards, but that is what I teach to people when I am looking at a comic collection…DO NOT LET ANYONE CHERRY PICK THE COLLECTION. I tell them it will cripple the rest of it.
This is a great example of why dealers who are willing to put in days and weeks and months of work “get” to buy entire collections for a % of retail. Lots of time and expenses here and the end result is meeting a nice guy and buying nothing
Very impressed Ty....I would have been frustrated to the max. The blank spot in the binder set off alarm for me, and the non-sleeved cards could lead to a ton of condition issues. I think the shop owner will make out OK. You at 5K...that could have been risky. But your kindness and compassion were on display big time.
Thanks for watching.
The catch ‘em all shop/owner, you can’t beat that guy. Dude who doesn’t care about “cliche pokemon” just a card shop owner who learned to have ALL type of cards, not just sports or not just Pokémon/mtg. This is the future of card shops. Owners who’re knowledgeable on Pokémon & sports cards
Thanks for watching.
😊dude said his dad sold the good shit. To pay for his mom’s insulin
You are a great person Ty. I could see a lot of people handling that situation differently. Good on you.
Dangit I live like 20mins from there. Wish i could have met yall!!! Yall are really good people for how yall helped him. Very cool
What a mess for others to have to deal with. I am 65 years of age and got my 25,000 Topps baseball cards all organized and ready for my children!
What a beautiful soul that man is.
Agreed!
That was a wild episode. You guys are good people for helping him out.
Man this one was tough to watch, but I think it’s important. For anyone buying collections on any scale, you run into this situation where things look or sound better than they actually are. I buy small collections, usually a few hundred dollars or less. But my general rule is I only buy based on what I can see…if there are pictures posted of some vintage cards and I can see a few stars, I can’t assume there’s other big stars in the stacks. I can hope, but I only offer based on what I can actually see in the pictures, or in a case like this, find while you’re there looking.
I never buy full collections. My bulk guys always want me to buy multiple 5 row $1 boxes. I tell them straight out I can’t do that because then I’m left with junk
But I think you’re missing the point unless I’m missing something? The cards Ty saw in the pictures weren’t there
Uncommon Reseller is such a great idea Ty!!! Gaining knowledge, tips, tricks, perspective, etc from someone with as much experience in reselling as you is a great opportunity
My eyes are popping out, I love how you can keep your composure, talking to them knowing you’ve your hands full
After watching, what a bummer🙃you didn’t want that hassle anyways! I wonder if they found some gems🧐
Love that!
Guaranteed, Terry skimmed the best stuff off of this, also it sounds like the Dad was selling the best stuff for insulin
This is totally not true. I loved my brother, would not take from him. I am a giver, not a taker..
@@tlc9313 Sir I believe you, but could someone have taken "The good stuff box" when you moved it from your brothers to your house? Or did it blow out of a vehicle down the highway when moving it? Your nephew was under the impression you had "The good stuff box" inside your home. I am not trying to accuse you, but someone has to know what happened to it and you may very well not know.
@@tlc9313 you definitely knew what was going on there and dipped some of the good cards
@@tlc9313 How much did you make?
@@tlc9313I don't believe you
Kevin is good as gold. If he had a TH-cam channel just talking about his favorite cards, I’d definitely watch it because he’s so pure/
Total waste of time. Somebody is hiding something. Definitely picked through.
for sure
Met Kevin In card shop a few weeks backs I believed him and his wife were together ripping cards. I was looking through a dollar box. Seemed liked Good people he talked a lot about his family. I enjoyed Meeting them. It’s unfortunate the big cards were not in the collection but seemed as both of them were passionate about collecting. Enjoyed the episode.
Thanks for watching.
I feel like this seller is getting taken advantage of for having special needs and going through a tough dealing with his parents passing or soon to be passing . He seems to have a slight understanding of cards, but not enough and not in the right mental space at the time.
The location being moved for such a large collection was the first red flag. Another red flag is going through binder sets and seeing stars removed. You know right away the collection was cherry picked.
I hope the seller can find some more trustworthy people around him that will not take advantage of him due to his mental state. Unfortunately, I believe it would be a family member taking advantage of him because he seems to care about his family deeply and would likely trust someone untrustworthy.
Props to Ty for trying to get him more than his original ask as well so he could still land at the 3K mark he originally wanted. Most people would have rightfully been upset, but Ty seemed upbeat through a bad situation.
Good job handling with grace. Not fair to blame the family, no one knows what happened with cards while their dad was alive. Great episode. The stories are superb.
You're a good man, Ty. I've never met you and you don't need me to tell you that, but I figure it can't hurt. Good man!
“But here are the chickens!” Dang. I had to go back and watch that again. Funny stuff, Ty !
My favorite episode, love how this all worked out! God bless brother
As soon as I heard the guy say "Turkey Red Babe Ruth", a card that doesn't exist, I knew this was going nowhere.
i buy out collections and whenever you see pics of album pages with cards missing you know its likely picked.
Glad you got out of buying that collection. When I heard they moved the collection to another house I got bad vibes. Then when all the key cards were missing I figured the uncle cherry picked the collection.
Looks to me like someone went through it and picked out the "good stuff" before you got there. Maybe even the sports card guys that got there after you did.
There was someone pulling some strings behind the scenes in the family and it was screaming sketchy the entire time. All of a sudden a call is made and a buyer shows up? It luckily saved your butt from having to pay $3-5K for some some TH-cam “good karma” I’ll call it, and a truck full of junk😂. That was the best thing possible for this deal.
Ty was way nicer than I woulda been glad he didn't have to buy that collection tho didn't see any cards worth even $20 . Glad the son sold it tho he was a likable guy
Krista watching this video sippin her tea
Lol. Excellent! 😂
“first impression is that im impressed”
damn that’s deep
You were happy as heck to see the card shop owner there!!! You didn't want to get stuck with all those commons! Uncle was trying to pull a fleece job by taking out all the cards worth more than a dolla!!!
Basic math says it’s been picked over, no question about it. No collectors just leave blanks in albums like that. The only real question is who and when. But it was absolutely picked over at some point. Sucks for Ty and team, amazing they still got them paid them like he did, pure class.
Thanks for watching.
Man all that way and work put in getting someone got over on kevin and you guys but glad to see it all work out for all parties
Thanks for tuning in.
Super sketch. There’s no way in hell I would have flown for that collection, even including the “good box”.
Thanks for watching.
No doubt, especially when the cards are scattered all over and basically in a shed. I have left junk cards in my garage attached to my house in 5,000 count boxes and the moisture alone will affect them long term.
Thanks for being there! I feel that if you weren't there, Kevin would have been taken advantage of. Great job! I'm hooked!!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Most people don't know how much time it takes to look thru a collection that size to find the value, then list, sell, and ship. Then when you see a collection of cards that are randomly mixed together that you must flip thru to view, organize, and sort; damaged from being thrown in sports card boxes, shoe boxes, food boxes, and rubber maids; then hauled back and stored for unknown time frame. If you know this, you will appreciate Ty's honesty and patience. I'm happy to see that the seller got some money to help pay for his mother's funeral, but also happy to see Ty not stuck paying $5,000 for junk. The card shop guys are the biggest losers of this deal, probably losing 90% of their money and a lot of time. Good show. Good lessons.
You did the only thing you really could do when put in that position... just put it down as a loss and move on.
It obviously puts you and the team in a tough position in how you deal with, and react to, the situation (esp. as you're filming the encounter and uploading it). I think you handled it very well, and understood that there's a few factors at play that you didn't otherwise predict - you get what I mean.
You were able to come out of it having helped the family out, helped a local card store/s out (which, I'm sure the gesture won't go unnoticed by them), and move on to the next deal.
Anyway, well done, Ty, and the CC team. Always great viewing.
Looking forward to the next episode. Keep up the great work! 👍
Terry sold all the good ones
3k-5k for dollar cards is a huge sacrifice
#FACTS
Looks like Unc was a "Magician" aswell smh the way he Made "The Good Card Box" dissapear out of thin air 😢😉😂🤣😂🤣😂🕺🏻😕😤
This is a really sad situation. You can tell Kevin had been mislead by family. I HOPE, I really HOPE the Uncle is selling these at max value for the betterment of the entire family not for self gain. It was also a really sleazy move for the uncle to call in other buyers while Kevin was already working a deal with Ty. May have worked out in the end, but this whole situation made me cringe. Thanks for making something work for the family.
Thanks for watching.
Hi I just bought the whitey ford toss 1962 card from u off eBay and I saved u in my saved sellers. Ty. That card seals my 62 whitey collection.
You guys are freaking awesome! Wow! God is working through what you do.
Gracias! He is.
All the good stuff is gone. Uncle took everything.
We need more Kevin content in this hobby and less Geoff Wilson’s and box breaking bs
That uncle definitely pulled a fast one! Too convenient to move the collection and all the good cards are out of evry book/binder
I could see it in your reaction and I thought, the collection was moved, chances are is that it was picked. Thanks Brothers for sharing!
When I see cards just thrown in a box, it makes me sick!!!
That was the right thing to do there Ty, for sure. With all the best cards pulled from the different sets you were looking at proves it was picked through. The Man that had passed away probably Sold the expensive cards to help pay for Medical Bills without the Son not knowing. The way Health Insurance is with deductibles and only paying a certain % of the bills he probably had too.
Hey Welcome to Greenville!!!
Hey, thanks!
I have bought many Estates Collections etc , #1 rule once someone moved it to another location they usually took out all the good stuff at that time !!!!!
Thanks for sharing!
So, the gentleman’s honorable dad left him with presumably 5,000-10,000 worth of cards. He has a disability and people around him know this. Somebody clearly stole from him. This may constitute theft large enough to be prosecuted. I’d be interested in knowing exactly what was in the “good box”. Then notify the police that it’s missing. The police have the resources and savvy to develop a pattern between those cards and a particular seller on eBay. Find out whom that seller’s account belongs to and launch an investigation. Or, an easier way may be to contact the irs and give the names of anybody who had access to the cards and then tell them that these people should be reporting additional income and if not then they’re possibly guilty of tax evasion. The authorities- both local and federal need to be contacted.
Fantastic episode.
13:28 When the music kicked in 😅😅
Dude that’s jacked up uncle and brother been selling those cards and the brother had zero clue of what was going on around him sometimes you can’t even trust your own family 🤷🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
The fact he had a number in mind specifically just to cover the funeral costs and not more is so telling. Great guy. Hoping someone else didn’t get to the good stuff first 😔
Your a good hearted fella forsure🙏🏾💯.
CC 200iq'd the other guy lol. got him to overpay to the family that needed money.
The jordan pulled out i would of been like seeya
But atleast you guys saved some money, buying that collection lol
Did the uncle ever explain off camera??
I have been watching you guys for a very long time and I really don’t understand how chasing cardboard has not been picked up via major TV outlet. The work you guys do and the video Production that you put out is head and shoulders above the competition. I would love to know if you’ve ever been approached to do a TV show? Thanks for the content, I’ll keep watching regardless Because I just love the work this channel does. I can only imagine the amount of work goes into each video. Keep up the good work!
A "Babe Ruth Turkey Red"
Still a good man. Good family. Hard to watch.
Boy, I see this and shudder. So much junk! And I say that as a collector. What a burden to leave your descedents. Seems like a good guy, loving family, but there is no way I would ever want to leave this kind of mess for my kids.
Agree! I am 65 years old and got my stash and act together for my adult children!
With the card boom that happened during covid. I highly doubt that there is any collection that is "untouched".
The ole “Good Stuff” box…. Hmmmm. Sorry but I would have run for the hills.
At least there were chickens, haha
I probably would’ve asked for pictures of the “good cards” before I made a trip to buy a collection. I’m not just going based off someone telling me. But I guess in Ty’s case it makes content so u just go and see what happens and record it
He did . None of the stuff he came for was there.
I’m not crying, you’re crying! 😢
Nice gesture
Definitely picked from and imo a deal was struck with cc to drum up the intrest by family.
Kevin was the sale person but i believe uncle had spoke to card shop already and called for them to arrive to facilitate a deal tgat day. Congrats to buyer its a lot of work and to cc for not buying and allowing a local to take collection. Cc Definitely got best scenario there.
Another good one.
You gotta vet these folks, man! That’s the most bumpkin deal I ever seen…
You're awesome young man you seem like you're like your daddy
Yeah he was a sweet guy!
Love the episodes. Goes to show that not all collections are what they are cracked up to be! Keep chasing and keep filming!
Thanks for watching!
@@CHASINGCARDBOARD over the last 2 months I have went back and watched every episode in order. What other shows should I watch? I need more. Lol
I've been collecting for 40-plus years and the majority of my collection came from other people I would love to come across some of the collections that find.
Would have also made a lot more since for them to just have called the local guys first.
