Just tips from an RA in college... Make sure your waffle irons, blenders, etc. are approved for your dorm. Some colleges will fine you for it even if it isn't plugged in. At my school, that fine starts at $50 and goes up from there. Unless you're in a sorority house, pretty much anything you hang on your door handle, any wreaths, door mats, etc, will probably get stolen... Make sure you're friends with the people on your floor, but even then, people do walk around and explore dorm halls where they aren't supposed to. If you put something on your door, know that the risk of it being taken is there. There are no cameras in the halls of most dorms for privacy reasons, but check to see if your hall does so that if you put something like a doormat or wreath outside on your door, that you can ask the school for help getting it back or at least making sure that person is found.

hey just finished my year at ucsb so lemme say a few things that i found from my first year! depending on where you live really, I was in the off campus dorms where there weren’t communal restrooms so everything was private. i had a mini fridge and blender, no one hates you for the loud blow dryer bc TRUST ME a blow dryer is nothing. the waffle maker thing made me go AW! im assuming you’d have a meal plan so they have waffle makers but honestly having your own is more funner and makes your room a fun experience ig! there’s communal kitchens if you were worried about getting in trouble with having it in your room, but most of the time you could get away with a lot anyways :)

broo i visited the UCSB campus for the first like last month and i thought it was the COOLEST, my uncle is a professor there so he was our guide and i thought the dorms with the beach view were soo nice and one of the best parts of the campus. Best of luck to you on your first year!❤️
