  • In this video I will (in my own rambling way) go over the tools I use to make my own security pins for challenge locks. I hope it may help, or even inspire you to, have a go at making your own to send out into the locksport community.

    I enjoy making challenging locks and frustrating my fellow pickers 🤣. Ah classic. But I agree you do make some beautiful pins and some really good CL’s. I like this series of videos. Cheers D, take care.

      Can you put a detailed list of brass rod size/dimensions. Dremel drill bit size.

      Thanks Derrick, I use either the original lock pins or fresh stock from my repinning kit which are 2.9mm

      Thank you. This information is useful for the newer folks getting into CL making. Larger diameter rods can be used, sanded to fit cylinder. A fairly accurate calipers is a must. I usually only find 3 MM up to 5 MM. Fairly inexpensive online. Price, availability varies from Amazon, EBay.

      I readily agreed on modifying stock brass manufactured pins. Affordable option.

    I have a Dremel 4300 on order pretty hard to get in Australia currently I also picked up the Dremel multifunction drill stand 220 and a flex extension just need to sit and cool my heels until the Dremel motor unit gets in so I can give this a try.

    I had a go at making some challenge pins a while ago, based on Bosnian Bill's video. I was reasonably successful but my results were nowhere near as precise as yours. I have poor vision, poor fine motor control and a no-name Dremel wannabe, so a combination of these factors saw me sending pins all over my garage from either not clamping the collet down enough or else being too heavy handed with my files or knife blade. I also tried making core and bible undercuts with limited success, but at least tapping some threads was within my meagre capabilities. I really should try making these locksport torture devices again some time, and treat myself to a proper Dremel as well as that flexible extension.

      The new dremmel I bought was way better than the cheap one I had been using and it definitely improved my cuts. 👍🏻

    Cracking video D! Super informative unpicked uploads of info there. One question, that jewellers saw, how many pins on average would you say per single breakage ?

    • @Dmaclocksport
      @Dmaclocksport  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Loads! It's suprisingly strong actually. I've only broken a few blades but they can be reused

    Seems to me people are making impossible locks. Not challenge.

    • @Dmaclocksport
      @Dmaclocksport  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well, as with normal locks, there's many levels of difficulty. Of course sometimes, making too many mods can make a lock easier to pick if you lose the tight tolerances 😎👍🏻
