My fear of planes makes it very difficult to take a trip to Europe. I might have to take one of these Cruise Ships one day and head out there to catch a Tour de France in person. I have fallen in love with this part of the world just by watching all these GCN videos :)
Jenkin Road was everything I hoped for and more! What an amazing spectacle and experience. The spectators coming in a very close second to the race. Thank you Yorkshire
really useful but a bit dismissive of Day 1. Just north of Skipton a couple of hours into stage 1 is the 1st KoM climb at Cray. Doesn't matter how they 'race' this early, they'll all be going slow, big approach, plenty to see. Bikes and pedestrians have access to the route up to half an hour before the caravan comes through which is 2 hours before the race. For Cray that means being in place for 11am. Great that you can get to ride the actual course just before the ToF proper comes down it and cycle it again as soon as the last police bike has gone. Wherever you end up, enjoy!!
I am a Tour Maker on stage two so I've got the best view in the house. Stage one I'm going to find a location around 2/3 of the way in. Will be cycling in on my bike from 10-20km away to avoid closures and gridlock.
I'll be up Holme Moss! A nice 30 mile ride from Manchester and get to ride up before the pros show how it's done. Will be getting there early to grab a spot, just hope we're not treated to 8 hours of British rain while waiting!
Cote D'oxenhope moor, Cragg Vale or Holme moss will be good viewing. I'm sure the climbs are long enough for the wind will play a factor.. Plus the break should be established by then, and a peloton will be chasing hard to keep the GC guys in with the chance of an early stage win.
The hill heading out of gunnerside is a bad un , and the riders only see it at the last minute as they pass the café , was there 2 weeks ago hiking the c2c and watched them all having a go at the route, all we heard as they saw the hill was "ohh shit" haha :-D
what happened to the "top 10 upgrades (Tour De Suisse, Brand New Colnago Frame & ZLM Tour - GCN Cycling News Show - Ep. 77)" video that was scheduled for Thursday? i was looking forward to that one.
Will there be a London stage preview? Is it day 4? Want avoid finish at piccadilly as won't see nothing for hours and then barely seconds unless I gatecrash the cafe De Paris so want suggestions on good en route spots?
So yesterday the jenkins steepest part was 25%, now it's 32%. When it reachest the tour the france, it's going to be 47%?? What's the correct gradient?
Stewie Griffin The steepest part is 33% which is at the railings you saw in the video. Tough little climb and I think it will catch a lot of riders off guard. I was 2nd up that on Strava until David Lopez came along!
www.letourripponden.co.uk - Ripponden Bank Will be a fantastic place to watch. a steep steady hill. There is also a large tv screen ( like those in city centres) to watch the rest of the stage after it passes through.
It's not going to be any more exciting than Holme Moss and our club is helping out a local farm to make this the most spectacular viewing point of the day, including safe lock up for that all important bike :) holmemoss.wordpress.com/
Were camping in Kilnsey so that may be a little too far to ride Terry Lambert although I would love to be able to go back to my homeland around Halifax to watch from there! Have a great tour Terry.
Did Dan ever wince like that on a climb in a race ??? ooooooooooo' LOL All this f' a bloody bike race - anyone'd think its important or something... ;)
Great to have you back Simon. Good report & natural in front of the camera unlike another member of the team.

Great to have Simon back. Speedy recovery
Fantastic previews lads, well done!
Great! Think i'll cycle to Skipton in the morning, not too far from where I live.

4:03 Great cornering skills from that learner. Next Lewis Hamilton, that one.
hahaha i was about to say the same thing
Bet Simon was thinking "I've already got a neck brace on - what else?"
Get well soon man.

I'll be watching at Bradfield, I did think about Holme Moss, but as I'm camping at Bradfield thats where I will be watching.

best place to watch as got to be on the outskirts of huddersfield

Holme Moss for me, got to be. Heading in by bike and planning to leave it at Lane Farm, can then find a good spot without worrying about losing it
Could someone PLEASE explain how gradients are measured?
Simon are you ok?
I'm heading to Sheffield and Jenkin Road.
what happened to the "top 10 upgrades (Tour De Suisse, Brand New Colnago Frame & ZLM Tour - GCN Cycling News Show - Ep. 77)" video that was scheduled for Thursday? i was looking forward to that one.
What happen to Simon's neck ??
greatest place to watch is on my ergo-chair and in front of my 32" monitor pc
Catterick racecourse are providing a park and ride facility for stage 1
Any chance for a similar vid for the cambridge to London stage?
I want to know if Matt and Dan actually rode the whole way round those first two stages ;) or did they take a ride in the broom vehicle?
We are going to Dovestones than hiking up a 2 hour long climb!
Nice!
Bring on Buttertubs!
Global Cycling Network can you do a video on the garmin 510 and 500 please
Simon Wyllie we've got a bunch of Garmin tutorials, including this one on the features of the 510 and 810: Garmin Edge 510 and 810 GPS - New Features
Thanks

53%
Sounds like something to the liking of Cav.

BradHati that awkward moment when David Lopez ruins your day! :)
How come he's wearing a neck collar?
Simon had an accident whilst out riding. He is well on the mend.
Global Cycling Network Get well soon.
Le Tour passes Belgium. Will you guys be at each arrivé? Hopefully, I can finally meet you guys :-).
Not sure whether we'll be in Belgium ***** but we'll be updating our Twitter (@gcntweet) with our whereabouts.
It has been asked, but any explanation on the neck brace? Hope it's not too serious.
Simon took a bit of a dive, but is well on the mend thanks. He is stuck staring at his stem on the turbo trainer though.
Global Cycling Network when did he crash?
daviddang82 A few weeks ago, and still has another four weeks in the neck brace.
Is there any website to watch it online?
Live on ITV 4 - www.itv.com/tourdefrance/tv-schedule

You could park here and cycle over to Lane Farm and park your bike :-)

I wish I could go but I live in America and i gone but it was 2010 and but I've gone and I got an autograph by mark cavendish
LOL Stewie. It's very steep. I've had cars that couldn't get up it.
how about London

Chris Shaw - more info here too
I've had a look, there's a link in it showing the road closures, looks like an early start and a hike in
That's what I thought, doesn't say anything about no helicopters though.... ;-)
Were camping in Kilnsey so that may be a little too far to ride Terry Lambert although I would love to be able to go back to my homeland around Halifax to watch from there!
Have a great tour Terry.
It's very exciting around here right now. All the teams have set up camp and are out training on different parts of the route :-)
TV!
