@nouvelle_vogue The mild-hybrid B6s have the new electric supercharger. The T8s are turbo only. The updated electric motor makes up for what was lost with the supercharger on the low rev range.
I appreciate them, but find me one that is fast and has 3 pedals. CTS-V wagon was a monster and now priced to the stratosphere. Saab 9.3/9.5 Aero Sportcombi are cool but now 10+yo phantoms (never see one). VW sport wagons/Alltracks are nice, but 3 pedals are few and far btwn, they aren't fast and diesel gate killed the allure of the 6spd TDI. no one makes a Golf-R like wagon (except VW). Subaru sells the Levorg everywhere but north America. Mini Clubman S/JCW aren't bad, except slow and overpriced (3 pedals are rare). So, show me a fast, sub $45k (new) in the US, and I'm there.... 🏁
…so true. I love my fleet of mature bitches . My 1985 MBZ 300 TD Turbo takes her sweet time to get going and she blows smoke when rushed. Then there is the 1990 Volvo 245, so square and basic yet has the utmost reliability and divinely dependable. And there’s the 2016 Volvo V60 Polestar no words can express my thoughts on this for my 88 year old Mother has taken it for a test drive back in the summer of 2016 and she ain’t done with it still.
another reason why I miss living in Europe. Maybe they'll bring the RS4 Avant stateside. I would purchase that unfortunately over the V60 although it does look nice.
The quality of Volvo's has always been outstanding and I love the fact that you can be incognito. The look of it is fresh and sharp but not arrogant or pushy. It is fast, drives smooth, has enough space for the daily needs and 90% of our drives is within the 30miles distances so mostly electric coming from our solar panels.
Since new in November, my S60 Recharge sedan (same drivetrain, also beautiful), 9,000 miles, 103 miles per gallon, cost to charge ~$34 per month at $.17 per kWh. This compares to my last 4 cyl ICE at 29.7 mpg. Cost, about $15,000 less than the wagon. But I do love wagons, this car shares the garage with a 1998 V70 5spd bought new.
Wagons rule…we just got a 2025 V60 Polestar Engineered last week to replace our 12 year old Mercedes wagon! Really wanted a plugin hybrid and loathe the plastic cladding on the new Merc All-Terrain! So far we've been very pleased and it's fun to drive.
The XC90 T8 is this same car with 7 seats and a slightly different form factor. They're _incredible_ road trip vehicles. Bowers & Wilkins, pano roof, 20" alloys, air-suspension are the must-haves. I got 168 mpg driving somewhere yesterday, and 68 mpg driving back. The return journey I had a heavier right foot and my kid in the back was giggling every time I floored it. You didn't even mention the safety equipment (cross-traffic alert has saved my literal automotive ass a few times now)! Great to spread the word though.
Great to hear. We have one on order that should roll-off the line end of September, 2023, and we'll have the keys mid-November. A sleeper that will also save on gas as a grocery-getter (even in the winter; 50 km is fine).
I have this albeit in standard T8 phev and it is simply amazing. Super economical, 4 wheel drive security, supremely comfortable and just a great tourer. We’re doing a tour later this year to Bordeaux and northern France. The wool trim and driftwood interior is pure luxury and so quality.
I shopped around a bit, and the wagon type is going through the same thing as the hatchback in the late 80's and 90's. There are people who love wagons, and there are more of them than folks who want sedans. Unfortunately, there is a much bigger market for SUV buyers than wagon and sedan buyers, even the weirdly-shaped egg-SUVs which have far less usable space at the same wheelbase compared to a wagon. Buying decisions are emotional, and I've had conversations with many everyday drivers who repeat the same thing, "I like sitting higher up". On the other hand, Honda and Volkswagen - when every other company declared the hatchback dead - saw a different market, back in the 90s. I don't believe the wagon, as a design, is dead. It is undermarketed, and lives in the shadow of (frankly, and relatively) tiny and less competent SUVs, but the pendulum always swings.
I had a 2022 black V60 T8 as my last car. It was a very nice car, and it is really fast, but it doesn’t feel fast cause it’s so comfy and handles so well. Going 250km/h really felt like going 120km/h.
They aren't supercharged anymore, the T8 ER powertrain dropped it for the bigger EV system. Also, with the most current software, in warm weather, the EV range is closer to 50.
My current "daily" is the SNJ027 - the modern Arnie. I love it. I've also got an old Seiko automatic from the 70's that I won via an IG giveaway from DC Vintage Watches. I have a Hamilton Pilot Pioneer Mechanical that I bought for about 1/3 of the MSRP thanks to my brother in law who owns a pawn shop back east. And then I have a G Shock I wear when mountain biking. Oh and I recently bought a non-running vintage Omega quartz from the 70s or 80s. I had a Swiss movement swapped in (non Omega) to get it working again. Then I have a cheap Timex that has a cool Day of the Dead theme on it.
I am probably old enough to be your grandfather. So i'm sixty five my oldest is twenty one. 20 years ago I had V70 T5 wagon.... I loved that little wagon. It was my first wagon. I was smitten with it if memory serves. I got four hundred miles to the tank. And I am a full grown man as my wife is a full grown woman. And with our second child, it was like we're living in a small tent with two monkeys. And that's when we went on road trip somewhere altogether. My wife has her own car. I had that car turns out my kids were beating the snot out of each other when they were very, very small😅😅😅. Thankfully that is no longer the case.
My friends are into the world of SUVs and Sedans, but I am in the world of wagons. I hope it won't bid its goodbye until the time comes I can afford this. It makes me kinda sad, thinking I won't get a dream car of mine. Idk what's with it, it just feels like it brings me back through time with better quality of life experience. Great review!
PHEV hybrid is the best of both world. You get to enjoy the EV superb quietness, smoothness and huge power starting from low rpm delivering monstrous 300~1150HP, achieving 2~5sec easily for 0~100kmh that was possible only in expensive sport cars previously. It has incredible fuel efficiency of just 3~5L/100km when runs on fuel, even with the extra heavy battery weight that gives low CG and good stability.
Once again, the most important part is skipped. Is it a dog in EV-only mode? The whole point of the thing is to commute on battery and then have fun on the weekend, bit no reviews ever describe how miserably slow EV mode is. Will it be unbearable for commuting? It's critical
It's November 2024 now and I just got one off the lot for $13K discount! Also there are only 100 of them now in the USA. 2025 is the last year of the V60 Polestar Engineered.
...and haven't had a 5 Series wagon in the US since the 2000's - 535ix Touring, which was really the only worthwhile Bangle-fied car, and, the early gen I- Drive notwithstanding, a really decent car, AWD Etc. Like this and the V90 could be, one of those "if you could only have one" - cars. Wth is the matter with them... and us?!
Is Volvo reliability still questionable? We fell in love with the V90 wagon when it first came out, but have always been worried about some of their engine choices and long-term maintenance
JG: If I was in the market, this would be at the top of my list. JG: It's 74k. Me: Umm, after TT&L, this is an 80k car. That is absurd. Jaguar pulled this garbage with their XF wagon, too. It's not that people are sleeping on this. It's that its intended audience doesn't have anywhere near the cash to afford it. Go pound sand, Volvo.
I agree the price sucks... but it's also wild for a company to offer a car that is this good looking, has 455 hp, and can return very usable EV range. Plus, Volvo at the same time knows the market is small for it (despite all of us wagon fans absolutely loving it). So they can charge the premium and eventually phase it out.
Most people will lease this… as a lease payment, its actually one of the more affordable options in this unique class. Also, the average car sold is now over $50k.
I just got one of these, there were only two in California so not easy to find but I didn't have to special order it. It is an amazing daily driver. Loving it so far!
I had the 2021 version - the 2023 is waaaaaaaay better - Way more electric power, way more electric range, better turbo engine. And it DID qualify for the $7500 Federal bonus
2024 V60 Recharge Polestar on board charger, is it the current 3.6kw or will it be increased to 6.4kw? I saw/read somewhere that they were improving the onboard charger and thus speed up charge time.
The lineup is more and more CUV/SUV only, and the wagon (I believe, at least for the V90) is becoming an item you have to special order directly from the dealers. Volvo might be one of the last wagon holdouts here in N America, but it will be interesting to see how long that lasts.
Ye same in Finland. In US T8 Polestars cost similar to M3. In Finland or Canada were you get lower taxes for electric capabilities this cost 50-70 000€/$ as new. M340i cost over 110 000€ and M3 cost 150 000€... Got a 2020 T8 Polestar engineered for 58 000€ with 6000 miles on it. 2018 M340i with 40 000 miles would have cost 70 000€...
My understanding is that because of the placement of the battery (transmission tunnel/drive shaft), 4 zone is not possible. Honestly, I had it on my V60 T6 and I don’t miss it at all with my V60 T8.
Good luck owning one. This is a dealer-only machine, very complex and marginally reliable. The engine doesn’t even have an oil dipstick! I The infotainment is ridiculous and it lacks tactile switches for many basic functions. This is a lovely lease but a long-term money pit. I traded my V60 for a Genesis G80 and never looked back. Volvos are now over-engineered in the wrong direction.
it may be a dream machine...however, I'm waiting for the nightmare part when you take it in for mx. it's easy to give praise on all of the positives for your week long test drive, but for the long term owner (leaser?) or even 2nd owner, when does the nightmare begin? I'd love a fast wagon, but it has to be under $45k (new, not used)...
So I just bought an XC60. But I might have gone for this IF....they had colors. Why are the Polestar editions only available in white, silver, dark grey, and black? Come on. My XC60 in Fusion Red is SEXY and the V60 in that color would look hawt.
Love these things and had an order in for one, just wish they hadn’t gotten rid of a lot of the physical interior buttons with the update to Google software etc. Dealers and Volvo unfortunately seem dead set on making these things a total pain in the dick to get because they’re pretty much the only product they have with serious enthusiast backing and they’re woefully unequipped to deal with that type of product and customer. Dealer and Volvo took 8mo to even get me a build slot. Maybe fine if it’s a GT3 RS but a little unreasonable imo for a nice daily. 😂
Volvo isn’t replacing the V60. Utter misinformation and nonsense. Volvo performance wagons have always been a one to two year limited engagement all the way back to the 850 TR5, if not earlier. Oh and you lost all respectability by shouting out a KIA. Why review something if you aren’t going to bother doing any proper research?
2:26 you say it has a supercharged engine. It doesn't anymore in the 2023 model.
You're right - I messed up that bit.
It is… but with electric boost for the supercharge… less power… more torque
@nouvelle_vogue The mild-hybrid B6s have the new electric supercharger. The T8s are turbo only. The updated electric motor makes up for what was lost with the supercharger on the low rev range.
I hate that most Americans don't appreciate the wagon body. Those that do, really do.
Same. If you know, you know.

another reason why I miss living in Europe. Maybe they'll bring the RS4 Avant stateside. I would purchase that unfortunately over the V60 although it does look nice.

Plug-In Hybrids are the misunderstood gems in the auto market right now.

Jeff, such a good episode! At 69, have been a wagon lover all my life as well. It's amazing how long so many people haven't caught on!
I saw one of these, in white, for the first time the other day. I loved it, hence why I’m now watching your video. I want one
Love the passion! Heading to the dealership to order mine- gonna take delivery in Sweden too! What a deal
I wish i could afford one. I love wagons
We have a 2016 V60. Love it more and more each time I drive it.
Best car I have driven. My daily drive now, 2023 88km range. Everything feels like premium like it should.
Great to hear. We have one on order that should roll-off the line end of September, 2023, and we'll have the keys mid-November. A sleeper that will also save on gas as a grocery-getter (even in the winter; 50 km is fine).

Wonderful review. In 89 we got a 240 DL wagen, and in 96 we got our last Volvo wagen, a V60. Today we drive the ultimate 240DL - 2021 Subey Outback XT
Bro, I am getting emotional now. I place my order about 2 months ago and got the news that I will be getting mine in late October. I can't wait

Thanks to making this video ! In about 2 weeks i will recieve my 2024 version ! cant't wait
I love the thunder gray
I love wagons like this and it's amazing to me that they're so unpopular that they won't be around much longer. Literally everything is going to shit.

its an Electric supercharger now
@@AXXeYY Not on the T8, only on the mild hybrid B motors.
@@AllPurposeBen did not know that thanks
I have the same car, it’s no longer supercharged but a start stop generator

It’s the ‘70s stigma of a mom’s car. Just like the minivan. Both wagons and minivan are the best (you need to chip your van though 😈)
They probably sell 100 Volvo estates a year in Denmark alone..
Such a honest review. It feels how you are excited about this lovely car
Love the V60
I have the v90 t8. Best car I’ve ever owned. Does everything and shocks and even embarrasses its sportier rivals.
Just nougat a 23 year model, v90 t8, it is like a corvett in acceleration and taket curves as a Ferrari
Just bought my 2025. The dealer still had their 2024 with cobwebs. Got a great deal.
I am a Wagon Lover as well , You are 100% on the Mercedes wagon is just Stunning !!

Beautiful car...this, the v90 and the BMW 5-series wagon is my dreamcars...
Wagons kick ass and it breaks my heart that people are so led by the nose to SUVs by marketing and peer pressure.

the interior is not sparse, it's minimalistic :)
BMW made a HUGE mistake when they decided not to bring the M3 wagon over here.

nothing says "money" like a $900/mo lease payment. well, at least their loaners are just as nice....
i have the V90 R Design, love it and would buy another one. But like you said, they are going away, and the V90 is already gone. such a shame.
Test drove one a couple hours ago on one of my motorcycle roads WOW does this handle 👍🏻

Love this model.
Gasoline engine, supercharger, turbo. Oh lets also make it a plug in hybrid as well. What could go wrong?
It's no longer supercharged. And in Europe the V60 is a car that is sold a lot. You can't go out without at least spotting two or three
The only issues with Volvo is they have a lot of electrical issues. I love them though, especially their wagons
It's so beautiful
“Well let’s listen to Metallica, then” hahahahah brilliant
2024 V60 Recharge Polestar on board charger, is it the current 3.6kw or will it be increased to 6.4kw? I saw/read somewhere that they were improving the onboard charger and thus speed up charge time.
No dual exhaust??
Why do you think these things are disappearing? Volvo has shown no signs of getting rid of the V60 PHEV models in the US.
The lineup is more and more CUV/SUV only, and the wagon (I believe, at least for the V90) is becoming an item you have to special order directly from the dealers. Volvo might be one of the last wagon holdouts here in N America, but it will be interesting to see how long that lasts.
I can’t believe how much cheaper this car is in Canada. It’s equivalent to $57,000 USD 😮
Did you manage to place an order for this in Canada?
Ye same in Finland. In US T8 Polestars cost similar to M3. In Finland or Canada were you get lower taxes for electric capabilities this cost 50-70 000€/$ as new. Is this available with the 4-zone climate? I was shocked to see an interior photo of one without it (for $70k plus)

In NY it qualifies for A $500 incentive.

Beautiful car!
No federal rebate
Volvo should keep the wagon AND bring the supercharger back
Love these things and had an order in for one, just wish they hadn’t gotten rid of a lot of the physical interior buttons with the update to Google software etc.

Beautiful car, but only for a lease. Way too complicated to own. It's sad because it's surely a keeper if it weren't for that.
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 Great videos as always ... Check out the 1982 Volvo 262C classic for a laugh ... Sir, did it make it to the US market ❓
Oh we definitely got the Bertone 262 here!
