  • You join me on the banks for my first fishing trip since March and it certainly has been a while! I am out ledgering for tench on a rather pretty lake which you will have seen me fish on my previous videos.
    My apologies for the rather loud road noise as that is unfortunately beyond my control.

    I happen to enjoy it when you ramble as you call it Mark. Its a part of what makes your video's so great so keep doing it mate. Lovely Tench by the way. Tight lines.

      Thank you, to be fair I like a bit of a ramble in videos as I feel it's nice to involve and mull things over indirectly with you guys throughout them.

    This is exactly the reason I click with your videos as your angling is very reminiscent of my own. You summed up at the video and I couldn’t help but say “awww” when you described the tench as having teddy bear eyes. She was a beauty! ❤️

      Thank you, I love such venues and I would rather have hard fishing on a venue with atmosphere than somewhere that is rammed to the gills with anglers if honest.

    Hey Mark,
    People always think that we on the water side sit to catch a lot of fish.
    But It's the rest, the preparation, excitement and moment for yourself.
    Just shut your selves off from the Hectic life.
    But of course I wish you more than one fish in this season.
    And welcome back.

    • @francolinobasco
      @francolinobasco  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Precisely Jan, I don't think I could sum it up any better than you have just done, it is all those ingredients
      which make for what draws us back and why we enjoy it so much, the preparation and excitement if it could be bottled would make a wonderful medicine.

    thorally enjoyed this video the peace of the lake the sounds of the birds chirping the white blanket on the lake the solitude the teddy bears eyes of the tench and a no blank 👍

    • @francolinobasco
      @francolinobasco  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Rafa, thank you and greetings from across the big pond, it is very peaceful, although some might not think so with the traffic noise, I generally ignore the white noise and listen to the wildlife, which is very abundant.

    • @CB-xr1eg

      There's a water I fish about 3 miles from me which is an urban water, used to be a marina and its connected to the river, its right next to McDonalds, handy if you are hungry or for a call of nature!
      You can hear cars pulling in to the drive in, ordering their food and there's a big traffic island close by so we also get the delightful sounds of impatient drivers blaring their car horns..
      Apart from that its a lovely place to fish with mixed species including perch. roach. tench, crucians gudgeon chublets, carp up to 20lb and pike up to 17lb.
      As you say, ignore the noise and concentrate on fishing.

    • @francolinobasco
      @francolinobasco  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cheers Vinnie I was most happy to be rewarded with that Tinca.I'm glad to know you enjoyed my ramble, I do have a tendency to do that, but it is how I generally feel and on a whole apart from a couple of angling related friendships where parties didn't share the same ethos, the majority of the time most of us wish to help each other out with suggestions, ideas via a vested interest and enjoyable pastime that this is, sometimes friendships spring from it and I can say clearly that without some of the friendships that have grown from being an angler, I would have been more of a lost soul in some ways, especially when trying to find your way through what can be a very deep forest (life) at times. Tight lines to you if you are out this opening weekend and all the very best to yourself and your father mate.

    Nice to see you back again, lovely Tench most certainly makes the trip extra special, yeah I hate that white fluff too I remember fishing in it years ago and all went in my eyes, smothered my line and covered my baits lol, river season opens soon so cant wait, but I need to decide which river I'm joining to go for barbell this season, I'm moving to Sandy so I walked the biggleswade stretch of the Ivel first, still yet to do the actual Sandy stretch but hopefully this season I do it and catch a Barbell over 2lb lol tight lines and wet knees

    • @francolinobasco
      @francolinobasco  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Grayham, the white fluff is a nightmare, somehow got it in my eyes too, hence the rapid eye rubbing as I was chatting throughout the video lol, can cost you fish if it chokes the eyes up and you should happen to be playing one at the time. Oh so you've moved then, Biggleswade isn't a bad call in that case, although like much of the country they have seen their share of otters. I hope you have a good season mate and get a barbel or two.

      Thank you Dave, that is really good to know that you enjoyed the video, I do have another tench related video which should be uploaded next Friday (23rd). As I said on the video, on a whole the angling community,viewership and subscribers on youtube are what I look forward to uploading videos for and also interacting and replying to you chaps comments, it makes for a melting pot of ideas. You managed better than what I did with abstaining from fishing for the whole duration since March, I am not surprised that you are really looking forward to getting out on the 16th, the very best of luck to you this Friday and I hope you have an enjoyable time back on flowing water.

    Hi Mark, am watching this in 2020 as lockdown and a brain surgery is going to keep me from the bank for a while!
    Am looking forward to a session or two on the drains of the somerset levels for tench at some point although they seem fairly sparse these days and not the easiest to target due to hoards of small silvers!

      you're not wrong mark, I couldn't get any time off, one of my work colleagues is flying out to Canada for 2 weeks tomorrow so i'm needed in the office, the earliest I could get off is the first week of july and the best I can do is brave the crowds this Saturday so i'm a bit disappointed.

      I might have to do a bit of walking mark, my club has opened up some swims but I reckon they'll be busy, the biggest problem with the middle severn is access due to it being completely overgrown, if it's busy I might just leave it a week or two until i'm off 😃

  • @CB-xr1eg
    @CB-xr1eg 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Mark, that's obviously a still water ( or it looks like one ) and therefore it's presumably open all year round.
    So why did you wait until the start of the river season to fish it, or are you just a traditionalist?
    You're more patient than me, I couldn't sit behind 2 feeder rods, if I have 2 rods out I have 1 float/waggler and 1 feeder. Then I can be ( hopefully ) catching on the float whilst waiting for the feeder tip to pull round.
    Some people might say, what happens if you get a fish on both rods at the same time?
    But that's also possible if you fish 2 feeder rods.
    Anyway, lovely Tench you caught, my PB is 5lb so hoping to beat that soon, probably not this year though as its now October!
    I'll be after big perch instead.

    • @francolinobasco
      @francolinobasco  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheers Clive, the only reason I fished from that part of the season was just purely based on what I fancied fishing for, you know how it is with us anglers, if you have an itch sometimes you want to scratch it as such. I have to admit I agree with you regarding the feeder rod/ straight running ledger front. I do actually prefer fishing for them on the pin and float really, but depends on range I wish to fish too. Thank you for the kind words and well done on your pb Tinca, I am sure you'll beat it next spring and that is a good call, Autumn and a lovely sergeant or two would be simply perfect.

    thanks again mark - you're a great inspiration for younger novice anglers like me. I've got a small deep weedy pit near me that looks similar to this so will be attempting to replicate your success when it warms up!
    A couple of questions from a novice tench fisherman:
    Do you fish tight lines to the feeder or lead? Would they spook feeding fish?
    and with your vitalin, do you add water on the bank or the night before?
    Cheers, Will

    • @francolinobasco
      @francolinobasco  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello there Will and thanks for the comment and query. When possible I try to fish my lines a little slack, obviously not near snags, but open areas yes I prefer a less tight line approach, at least on a lead set up, obviously it can be swings and roundabouts on a weedy venue, especially once the weed starts really putting a summer growth spurt on. Regarding the vitalin you can use lake water or make it the night before by scalding it with boiling water, I prefer to use a kettle of hot water the night before as this aids in it swelling and being able to absorb and mix together, just remember to not burn your hands when mixing as it holds the heat.

      @francolinobasco  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks the Mansion (sorry don't know your name).
      In answer to both questions, the first reason is because when I first came across it (2003) it had a certain look to it, (sadly this did also included burnt out cars and motor bikes dumped in its margins) hard for me to put into any scientific terms what I mean, but regardless of the dumping it ticked my boxes for atmosphere and general look, that combined with the fact that I do like looking into neglected places, much like why and how I select some of my river venues, admittedly it can lead to wild goose chases, but I generally find portioning a little bit of time towards studying the likes of google maps and such can be useful in finding places, much like the river I fished at the end of last season, that was found using the same idea. The rest is down to fishing places and seeing what might materialize. The reason I picked Tench is because I do love them as a species in general and throughout spring and summer (much like Crucian Carp) they are an enjoyable species to fish for as well as being hard fighting and quite pretty, their dainty rolling as they break the surface belies their powerful fighting ability, that and their beautiful eyes, orange meets red, with a touch of kindness and understanding about them.

    Mark, what are your suggestions for fishing over light weed? You're obviously not fishing a pop up so do you just hope the tench root the worm out of the weed? I'm presuming there's light bottom weed in the venue as it looks pretty natural.

    • @francolinobasco
      @francolinobasco  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey there brad, I always try to go mesh bag of crumbed boilie or pellet on the hook to soften the landing and a light weight which stops bedding in to weed, the pva route helps to stop playing a game of luck as such. Yes there is plenty of weed on this venue, but I do also carry a rake too which is the best form of clearing the areas and stirring up natural food to get the tench munching about in the zone.

    Is it a predominantly tench water? I'm wondering how you select them over smaller fish and silvers using maggots?

    • @francolinobasco
      @francolinobasco  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      No I'm afraid not, you have also got a good head of perch, so sometimes it can be very much a case of fishing through them if they are in a particulalry active and ravenous mood, however I do generally prefer a maggot and worm approach when tenching if there is a large natural food base in such waters as it can sometimes help to present something along those lines.

    • @francolinobasco
      @francolinobasco  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheers Dietmar, the traffic can make for a lot of noise but it doesn't depreciate the beauty of this lake, I agree with you. The rods are made by a company called Pelzer, called "pelzer contact" very nice action to them and they are a three section rod so break down quite compact. I am not sure if they are still made, but they cost me £38 each and were very much worth that price.
