    Well done Mark, beautiful fish! That particular lake sure is a favourite for you (two), but quite understandable given how it has produced. Wish we had that quality of fish here - there are a few tench in SA but they are mostly by-catch and quite rare, especially at that size. As you know, we do have PLENTY of carp though!

    • @francolinobasco
      @francolinobasco  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes Frank I must admit I fished it a fair bit, it was nice to find a tench lake that fed at night too. You've certainly got plenty of carp in SA, it looks a nice place to fish too certainly different. As a side note my mother lived in Austrailia for a few years and says to this day that she misses it.

      @@francolinobasco I bet she does! I have a confession to make in as much as I lived in Essex until I was 15 and cut my teeth on coarse fishing in the Chelmer and Blackwater rivers, one reason I guess that I love watching your videos so much! Having said that, forty something years later, I have never regretted coming to Australia and would never move back - indeed, when I did return a few years back it was a nice nostalgia trip but things were so different in so many ways to what I remembered. Just keep doing what you do so well Mark, love your channel!

    I could be wrong Mark, but it appears that the tench were spawning that night.

    • @barbelwhisperer303
      @barbelwhisperer303 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It looks to me and it would appear their vents were wide open, ergo had already spawned days prior. it's normal to have a distended and open vent for some time after spawning and Usually with tench if they are heavily spawning you don't normally catch 1 or 2 let alone five like Marks had here. Wish I had a lake like this to fish it looks beautiful!

    • @francolinobasco
      @francolinobasco  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mark Erdwin hello and hi . I’ve got a welsh lake to fish 1 acre what would you do to find the perch and tench also Rudd in the lake I can catch the Rudd but not the other to fish I mentioned above I use running rings on a legger set up but no luck the lake is not fished at all . What tips could you give me on locating the bigger fish meny thanks lee. It might be half acre lake thanks again lee

    • @francolinobasco
      @francolinobasco  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Archiebold247 Is there a low stock of tench in your lake or higher? Does your lake have any areas with a pronounced marginal shelf, that is an area in the margins where the lake bed slopes away and becomes deeper, usually it's the first shelf near the margins if it is a gravel pit. I would recommend targeting that feature as generally they love coming in close to the margins. Is there a lot of natural food on your lake? If so a worm approach (if you can get passed smaller fish) is hard to ignore. Does your lake have much weed or lily pad features? Is it the kind of lake that needs raking in spring and summer? bait wise if possible i would always start off on worms and maggot, however if you are being troubled by other species then I would suggest a 10mm boilie approach. I found Esterberry (now known as Esterfruit) to work very well, as do flouro pop up boilies of the same size in choc orange flavour and the usual pineapple variety. Breadflake should not be ignored either. the thing is there are so many variables, you have to be careful to not over bait with particles else they can become preoccupied and not pick up your hook bait. With my maggot approach I generally use some dead maggot in my groundbait so they cannot burrow into the silt or lake bed as this promotes the tench to dig about and generally ignore your hook bait.
