54 years ago the missionaries brought me to church as a 20 year old. I was in my snazziest mini skirt. I noticed the other girls in their down to the knee dresses. There were no other dresses like theirs out there. I didn't feel judgment. It took me no time at all to be aware. A little time to adjust. I love standards. They have kept me safe.

THANK YOU!!!! This was the best explanation I have heard!!! I have wondered why this have been WONKY! I believe just like you that the training wheels have been taken off and President Nelson has been desperately trying to get us to raised to the next level of obedience, understanding, sacrifice, and all of the things that will help us to help others to get to the next level as well. I appreciate so very much this specific broadcast! Thank you both for your continued insight. I needed this today!!

With your discussion of the allegory it just hit me that towards the end of President Nelson’s recent conference talk he states: “I am honored to be his servant”. Such a powerful connection!

This was really good to listen to, thank you; so interesting, as well as affirming! Not that I'm any way near perfect, but I keep groping my way towards the better way 🤪🤦‍♀️😁 I also very much appreciated you discussing how hard it is when we feel "numb" or that Heaven has withdrawn...at least, that's how it can feel; that's how I've been feeling... to some extent. It's like the pervasive anxiety [I struggle with] becomes a physical barrier. I had a kind of similar temple experience recently, and the love, or message/response I got was unmistakeable but not at all what I'd hoped/expected, so it really helped to hear Caitlin talk about not putting our expectations [of how things "should" be] on God. That gently smacked me round the head 😅 Thank you!!

Sadly, when the handbook changed and didn’t exactly spell everything out, my son-in-law went straight to get tattoos because he said “the temple is beautified with decorations, and I’m a temple of God” sadly, my daughter his wife recently got an extra nose piercing. I never thought I would see that apparently they’ve forgotten all the other Scriptures and everything else and I think what a horrible example for their children.

Really sad BUT God is not through with Hid covenant children. And they'll be blessed through your covenant keeping. Bless you all.

Sister Anderson, your desire at the temple to feel a specific kind of love from Heavenly Father; I would like to add a little bit of a twist for you. As we live in this mortal realm, one of our goals is to learn to be more like Him. Maybe Heavenly Father was helping you to see the sweet sisters’ love in the authentic way it came to you. And He walked you through the steps of accepting it into your heart.
Oh Sister Anderson, He worked a little on your heart that day. How beautiful is that?! He was teaching you another depth of love (in action). Those little tiny moments are so crucial in building us to be more like Him. And not only did He teach you more love but He also had a message. You still have a purpose in being here. You still have growth to make and things to learn.
    Hugs and much love!

I also consider the allegory to be about our own growth and the Lord working within us. The Lord invites us to the good (i.e. FSY) and allows that to grow. As the good grows we want to let go of the bad.

I think it was Elder Packer that said that teaching behavior is not going to change behavior as well as teaching doctrine changes behavior. A YW leader that measures skirt lines at the door is going to make struggling girls feel shame and exclusion. Where as a leader that focuses on helping them learn who they are as a beloved child of God is focusing doctrine that will peirce their hearts with love and belonging. That will lead to a more permanent change

Huzzah! It's Caitlin! Nice to see you're doing well! Really cool that your mom brought you on the podcast. Nice job! [Edit: I posted this remark before watching the video; I hope it didn't come across as insensitive.]
Also, sincerest condolences on Chris' passing. I only got to meet him a couple of times but he seemed like a wonderful man. It's no wonder you miss him.

Such dynamic no nonsense podcast. Can see that Caitlin has been taught by the best examples, mom and dad. Caitlin, you are so spiritually lovely. The Holy Ghost does reveal to us personally mode.sty in dress standards and all that we ask of his divine guidance.
Lili you're in my prayers night and morning

We are converts who were tracted out in April 1974. From the very beginning of our church lives we were counseled to dress our little girls to temple standards. I am distressed when our younger Primary girls are coming to meetings with sundresses off their shoulders. They tell me that it is okay in their families. I was interested when you commented that brides now wear regular temple dresses for their temple weddings. Thanks for your candid observations.

I wonder if the less scripted 'standards' have made the church seem more approachable to non members who may feel they can never live the standards we take for granted.

It’s disappointing to see people choose getting closer to Babylon than the Lord. I feel like a lot of what you both talked about boils down to agency being a major emphasis the Lord is conveying through His prophets. I feel that He is making things so that people have to choose to follow Him rather than just follow because they were told how or what to do. He wants us to choose Him and these “changes” make it so that those that really love Him will chose Him, in the higher and holier ways already revealed.
