The thing I find most lovely about your videos is being able to see my home city through the eyes of a tourist... it's like seeing the city through new eyes
About 100 yards from where you saw the fox I came across a duck and 7 duckings trying to cross the road. As it happened there was an SSPCA van visible at the bottom of the road. The driver said "not again". All ducks were escorted back to the pond in the gardens safely
I'm a Scot, and your videos just reaffirm the magic that Scotland gives ,both to us Scots and visitors alike.I love visiting Edinburgh,as it's so picturesque, and beautiful. Thanks for sharing your time in Bonnie Scotland with us.
Scotland is the most beautiful country in the world and I won't hear any differently. Some places up North in Scotland genuinely blew my mind with its beauty.
William wallace and the like fought for out freedom only for their predecesssors to sell the country out frim under our feet. Unfortunutalty we live in tines where so many peiple believe we are better together as it was advertised by the english during the last vote. Theres a few reasons for it including religion, misconseptions and infiltration. No good thing will last forever and 1000 years from now scotland will ve in the shape of a giant dildo
Glad you enjoyed the visit. Plenty more to see in and around the city and more again in Scotland generally. As for the fox the area he ran into is the private gardens on Queen Street and not accessible to the general public. Likely to be where the wee guy and his friends live during the day. Working nights sometimes they're a pretty common sight but always nice to see the wildlife adapting to their surroundings
Thanks so much, David! 😊 We loved it so much we actually squeezed a return into the end of our route, which put us there last week (as these videos are about two months behind at the moment). Saw a bit more of the city, and took a day trip up to the Highlands, which was breathtaking. Needless to say, Scotland is a place we'll be returning to throughout our lives. ❤️
It Is NotThe Only Exstinct Volcano In Edinburgh, Calton Hill Is, And Also The Rock That The Castle Stand On. USED LIVE BYE THE SIDE OF CALTON HILL WHEN I WAS AN INFANT, THAT WAS 77 YEARS AGO, I AM NOW APPROACHING 83, I AM GLAD YOU LOVE OUR CITY, AS I DO, I HAVE WALKED EDINBURGH UMPTEEN TIMES, FROM THE PENTLAND HILLS TO LEITH AND BACK I USED TO LIVE BELOW THE PENTLAND HILLS, ENJOY THE REST OF YOUR STAY, 🏴 👍🏻🏴👍🏻🏴👍🏻🏴👍🏻
love how humble n down to earth use are .. not trying to be flashy and splashing cash , showing what people can see on a normal budget . started with one video now watched the whole lot! lol
Someone else already advised that the ‘mountain’ you referenced (Arthur’s Seat) is a dormant volcano but there are other obvious signs around the city of volcanic activity and you visited them! Edinburgh Castle is atop a volcanic plug and Calton Hill is another volcanic site. Loved seeing you falling in love with our city and best wishes for the rest of your travels.
I love how you found Calton Hill and the Playhouse Theatre could be seen from there. 😆 The view south you saw is awesome, covering the city centre from Arthur's Seat, Holyrood, The Scottish Parliament, to the Castle and all in-between. As you realised the view north was an excursion that you needed time to explore. Leith Walk is a long run of shops and tenements with Leith docks at the end, leading down to Portobello sands (Yes, Edinburgh has a beach!). But you can go up Arthur's Seat quite easily from the east side (it's technically too small to be a mountain, despite some calling it that). It's actually pretty flat most of the way up on that side, so the even more spectacular view you get from there, which sees right over to Fife and beyond to the north, is actually more accessible than you might think from looking at it. Anyway, glad you loved it. Edinburgh is a great place to visit, very safe, even to explore. I've taken others around it and they loved it, too. Which reminds me, the Edinburgh bus tour is walk-on, walk-off, with tickets lasting all day, so they are actually a great way to see the city centre, work out where you want to go, and get on and off the bus as and when you want.
You missed the New Town ('new' as in built between 1767 and 1820) ? Oh, that's a pity; it's architecturally stunning, a world heritage site. And the old port of Leith is worth a visit too. Haste ye bacK!
Queen St and Hannover St (?) but the real architectural gems such as Moray Estate, Ann St, Palmerston Pl, Charlotte Sq etc etc, they've yet to discover, Stockbridge, Cramond Village and Dean Village too@@charmainelamont2020
The gardens that the fox went into are large and more or less closed to the public so the fox will get peace and quiet to rest up. (I know 5 months later) When you walked up Carlton hill you could have walked down the other side then just a few minutes to the playhouse theatre(you weee also very close to it in another shot) Anyways glad you enjoyed Edinburgh (I lived there for over thirty years and still feel a smile inside walking around its centre)
Calton Hill was originally intended to be Scotland's version of the Greek Parthenon, aiming to commemorate those soldiers who died in the Napoleonic Wars. The project ran out of money and became known as "Scotland's Shame" which I always thought was a tad harsh. 🙂
What a heartwarming look at my city. The next time you visit, you really need to spend some time on the Northern side. Especially Leith Shore area. Its vibrant and only 4 tram stops from The Playhouse theatre. Also in the summer, the area of Portobello is where our Victorian Era Beach is, complete with a man made veey popular beach, and loads of cafes and bars...the views are stunning
For what it is worth, the area the fox retreated to is the Queen Street Gardens, a large (runs the length of the street) private park accessible only to fee-paying residents who reside in the buildings around it (I never seen anyone in there), so it would have been safe there (there are many residential flats/apartments in the area, particularly on the other side of the park, which is the residential area of the fabulous New Town, which is grand Georgian architecture, cobbled streets and private parks. It is a totally differrent world from the Old Town and is a must-do experience, with close-by attractions including the Galleries of Modern Art (One and Two), Dean Village, Stockbridge, Circus Lane, St. Stephen Street, Saxe Coburg Place, the cottage-style Colonies on Glenogle Road and the Royal Botanic Gardens...all along or accessible from the Water of Leith, a narrow waterway that bisects the city.
So pleased you are enjoying our Capital City. We in Dundee also have a place were you can see a 360 view of the city called the Law Hill which I think top trumps Edinburgh. I would not worry about the fox, it is an urban fox and probably got hit by a car. It went to a safe place and will lick it's wound and be up and about in no time. There are no preditors (apart from humans) in Scotland for it to worry about. The SSPCA even if you had gotten hold of them would have done nothing. It is a wil animal. Enjoy the rest of your trip in Scotland.
Edinburgh is fantastic but if you end up back in Scotland again you gotta go out to Pitlochry/aberfeldy area. The scenery is gorgeous. Much quieter than Edinburgh mind 😂
Another interesting video. I don’t want them to end. You two look so blown away. “This isn’t Ohio anymore ”. It’s a lot to take in. Soak it up. Love from Carol and Phil.
SSPCA do have an answerphone, I have experienced that officers do check in periodically during the night and respond when they can. They are a great organisation and have rescued several animals for me. 3 pigeons, a goose and a Little Gull. I borrowed a trap from them to assist in catching an injured fox twice. Unfortunately I only caught a healthy one and my own cat. Pleased you enjoyed Edinburgh, hope you comexback son. Xxx
We were actually there about 2 or so weeks ago (squeezed in a return to Scotland near the end of our trip) and it was INCREDIBLE! Visited Glencoe, Loch Ness, and a few other spots on a guided day trip. Truly amazing how the landscape changed so dramatically every 5 minutes, from one beautiful scene to another, on and on for hours. 😍
Please do see more of the UK. I recommend: Cornwall and Devon (St Ives, Porthcurno and Minack Theatre, Polperro, Lyme Regis, Kynance Cove, Durdle Door, Burgh Island and much more).... Yorkshire is great (York, Whitby, Harrogate, Knaresborough), Somerset / Wiltshire area (Glastonbury, Cheddar, Bath, Wells, Stourhead Gardens and other places)... Scotland (Oban, Isle of Mull, Isle of Arran, Isle of Skye, Loch Lomond, Ullapool, then Loch Ness, Inverness, Pitlochry and Perth.... There is a lot down south too - the south coast of England in general - Cotswolds, Oxfordshire, Weymouth... just so much) Wales is great too with Tenby , Mwnt Beach, Devil's bridge, then climb Snowdon mountain And finally Scottish Borders if you get the chance (where we live), one hour south on the train from Edinburgh - places like Melrose, Kelso, Peebles... so much beauty a good way to see amazing places in England is seeing what National Trust properties and regions there are
Hi guys we have a gorgeous beach also get a 26 bus on the shops side of princes street and get off at portobello high street there are nice little coffee shops on the prom ❤
Great Vlog I live 40 mins away right in the middle of Glasgow & Edinburgh & ive never seen many of those places.I am so glad you loved my country. The fox im sure will be fine, its a common thing here there are so many of them, even in the streets where we live they just walk around a bit like stray dogs.
Another fantastic video, looks like you’re having a great time. You must visit Wales on your next visit. Looking forward to seeing more. Happy New Year with safe travels in the year ahead.
Thank you so much! 😊 Happy New Year to you as well! Some good news: Due to some changes deeper into the trip, we got some time back and decided to add Wales near the end of the route, right before closing things out back in London. We can't wait! 😃
Noticed you were on your way to the(Playhouse Theatre) but you turned another way up to Calton Hill, iv taken a photo an video off it, not sure how to send it too you. Glad you're enjoying your time in Edinburgh.
Funny you should mention this: We DID pop up to Leith during our return trip to Edinburgh (that video's coming in about a month), and we actually did something pretty significant there which we can't wait to share with everyone. 😃
OMG tell me you got to the playhouse, because you were so close at 1:51, it would kill me to think you were that close and didn't get there. If you had followed that road downhill and followed the flow around the corner, the playhouse is right there
Also, thank you for being so kind and considerate. We Americans are not always welcomed because to many of us are rude and entitled. You two were wonderful guests. Fox are not uncommon in that area at all; I encountered many while I was in the city. Thank you for caring; it was very sweet of you.
As I watch your video it's almost dinner time and I'm trying very hard to keep my hand out of the tin of whisky fudge lying at my feet. Honestly, I kid you not!
I hope you get to see more of England. So many beautiful cities such as York, Bath, Chester, Newcastle. Not to mention stunning scenery from Cornwall & the Jurassic Coast in the South West to the Lake District in the North West. Plus my beautiful home city of Southend-on-Sea!
Edinburgh is great. But a short distance away is Stirling and its WONDERFUL castle. Next time you come to Europe/UK visit: 1. Yorkshire (York, Whitby, Goathland - if you like Harry Potter - and Ripon woth its wonderful Fountains Abbey). 2. Bath - Roman Baths, plus the stories of Jane Austen). 3. In Scotland: Stirling, the Highlands and Orkney with its neolithic remains. LOVE YOUR VIDEOS...!
Thanks for the suggestions (and the continued support)! We're definitely hoping to do a U.K. trip in the not-too-distant future; there's so much to see and do, but obviously this trip was the "we may never get to travel like this again, so let's get a taste of Europe as a whole" sort of experience. Doing the big European cities this go-around will allow us to soak in the rest of these countries if/when we get the chance to return to them. We are, however, looking into changing our route slightly so we can return to Scotland near the end of the trip and see the Highlands. 😊
Thanks for a lovely review of our capital city. You mentioned your father served with the navy in Scotland. Was he ever stationed on the Holy Loch in Dunoon in Scotland ? I live in Dunoon and we have lots of ex navy guys thta stayed here after the navy left.
You appear to have got lucky with the weather. Much as i love Edinburgh, when the weather is foul, it is *really* foul. When it isn't, it's just about perfect.
Loving your Edinburgh videos, beautifully shot, superb editing and you are very engaging hosts. Edinburgh is my favourite city in the UK and we usually pop up there 2 or 3 times a year. It's a wonderful place - try and venture outside the Old and New Towns, even though they're amazing in their own right. Try Stockbridge, Dean Village, Leith, Newhaven and Cramond for more picture postcard views on every corner. Thank you for trying to save that fox BTW. Have a like and a subscribe 😊
One thing I will say about Foxes. They have been living along side us since the ice age. They don't need feeding, they don't need water they will survive anyway.
SSPCA are unlikely to do anything, wildlife isn't their main concern. There are various individual wildlife rescue, sanctuary, rehab places around, better to contact one of them (unfortunately, not always easy to find)
Going to the Highlands tomorrow, actually! Wedged in some extra Scotland time at the end of our trip because we loved Edinburgh so much. (And we're absolutely planning to return and see more in the near future.)
We don’t recall seeing anyone climbing it when we visited that first day - but now that we know it’s possible, that’s 100% on the must-do list for our inevitable return to Edinburgh.
I went to University in Edinburgh and have worked in the city for the past 25 years, I only got around to climbing it for the first time last year, I literally walk by it 5 days a week, so don’t worry about missing it on a short visit (well worth the wait incidentally).
Edinburgh is all right, but you should've gone to Glasgow. Out of all the cities in the world that I've been to (currently 200+), Glasgow is in my top 3 best along with Florence, Italy and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
@@iankogneeto4882 granted, Edinburgh would be more appealing to likes of folk like yourself. It is the heroin capital of Europe after all. By all means, fill your proverbial boots, my man. Those boots being a metaphor to express your contaminated intravenous syringe of course 😂
great video of a great city , you must try Northumberland , Holy Island, Bamburgh Castle and Dunstanburgh castle a great county filled with castles just down the road 75 miles from Edinburgh
my sisters love Calton Hill they always go during the fire festival ive never gone there despite living here my whole life im always busy with my kids during Halloween but google calton hill fire festival you'll see an interesting side to it haha
Agreed. After Edinburgh, I'd recommend highland Perthshire. Dunkeld, Pitlochry and Aberfeldy are picturesque towns with beautiful woodland and riverside walks to enjoy.
This comment section is pretty horrible. Firstly, climb on the monument on calton hill as much as you want, literally everyone does. Its a shame people are making it some sort of contest between Edinburgh and Glasgow, they both are great. I just hope you guys have ignored a lot of these comments and paid attention to the good ones. I realize this video is 10months old and the comments are old but i came back here after watching your recent video from Edinburgh. Love how much you guys love Edinburgh and hope you's have a thousand more happy memories here. Haste ye back as they say.
@qlctravels like, did you order it for delivery to the US? I think you deserve a conversation piece that lets you talk more about Edinburgh/ Scotland. You guys love of Scotland is amazing to watch.
@@qlctravels When you were phoning the SSPCA about the poor fox.....I get it mrs! I always think though..... why do people put animals in front of our injured/homeless?....... some of who were veterans.
@@albin2232 Lol yeah but the county I live in (Aberdeenshire) has more castles than any other county in the UK so imagine how many castles there are in the whole of Scotland 😃
Don’t you know Scotland is the home of whisky. It’s where you get the worlds best single malt. Some of them go for hundreds of thousands of pounds auction.
That's quite the story... Back in 2015-2016, I watched a podcast where a British guest on the show brought a variety of snacks from the U.K. for the 4 hosts (all Americans) to try. There were Jammie Dodgers, McVitie's Digestives, Hobnobs, Penguin biscuits, and maybe one or two other treats, as well as a Pot Noodle. This got me curious to try them as well, so I went to the nearest World Market to see if they had any of them, and sure enough, they had the first 3. All of them were incredible, but Jammie Dodgers won my heart, and a few years ago they won Lauryn's heart as well when I introduced them to her. Needless to say, whenever we made a grocery run in the U.K., Jammie Dodgers were a must-buy. And the same will be true when we return. - Brian
The whisky comment made me laugh more than it should have. I know a lot of countries are synonymous with a certain alcoholic beverage but are there any others that can actually be named like whisky = Scotch? Everyone knows tequila is Mexican but you would never ask for a bottle of Mexican but are there any others?
Another greast video. My wife and I are looking forward to our trip to Edinburgh in January .. we were there in march this year too, but there's so much to see. You're off to my homeland now, Belfast .. i lived in Holywood, just a few miles east of Belfast until I was 5, before moving to Newcastle. There's a joke about Holywood
I imagined the Holy Loch too. When i was growing up in the early to mid 80s we had an American navy guy called Don move in across the road. He used to bbq his food almost daily. Raining? No problem, he took the bbq in the garage and we would see the smoke billowing out. It was fascinating for us kids, he was a nice man.
yes great city such a disgrace they spent huge money on a old tech tram line and the roads are full of pot holes total joke Edinburgh City Council, not a clue
3:42 DON'T DO THAT ! It's a monument, not a climbing wall ! Can you imagine the damage that thousands of people (if not millions) doing that, every year, will cause?! ...and Yes, I AM Scottish. This is why important buildings or structures end up fenced off, it's also something you would tell children off for, never mind adults.
Thank you for caring about the fox. They will be living in the gardens.❤

We’re so glad to hear that! 😊
That's so true about giving oneself a day (if you can) to just wing it, and just wander around finding different things.
I've lived in Edinburgh for 35 years and have become a bit jaded. It's lovely to see people captivated by the place and reminds me why I stayed here.
Lovely blog. It's so kind of you to try to save the fox. You guys are so busy, but still find time to help a poor animal in distress. Happy Travels
About 100 yards from where you saw the fox I came across a duck and 7 duckings trying to cross the road. As it happened there was an SSPCA van visible at the bottom of the road. The driver said "not again". All ducks were escorted back to the pond in the gardens safely
The ‘mountain’ is called Arthur’s Seat. It is what is left of an extinct volcano from 335 million years ago.

Noticed you were on your way to the(Playhouse Theatre) but you turned another way up to Calton Hill, iv taken a photo an video off it, not sure how to send it too you. Glad you're enjoying your time in Edinburgh.
North Edinburgh is where it's at! Leith (Edinburgh's port) is the centre of the universe IMHO...but then as a Leither I'm biased ;-)
When your Dad was in the USN in Scotland i guess he was in one of two places Holy Loch or Edzell RAF base.
Next time you come over, visit the old Royal Yacht at Leith
You need to come back at Christmas - it’s even more magical
Ha that courtesy 😂❤ superb
As I watch your video it's almost dinner time and I'm trying very hard to keep my hand out of the tin of whisky fudge lying at my feet. Honestly, I kid you not!
Just hold out a little longer! 😄
Don't let a Cornish person hear you say that Cornwall is in England.
Edinburgh is great. But a short distance away is Stirling and its WONDERFUL castle.
Next time you come to Europe/UK visit:
If you’re doing the “big” European cities, why are you in wee Edinburgh??
@@garyross8661it's the capital of Scotland, and the 2nd most visited city in the UK
We were braced for the worst, but thankfully we got the best version of Edinburgh all 3 days. 😁
First of all you guys are adorable. Secondly, thanks for reminding me how lucky I am to live in Edinburgh ❤
🥰
Loving your Edinburgh videos, beautifully shot, superb editing and you are very engaging hosts. Edinburgh is my favourite city in the UK and we usually pop up there 2 or 3 times a year. It's a wonderful place - try and venture outside the Old and New Towns, even though they're amazing in their own right. Try Stockbridge, Dean Village, Leith, Newhaven and Cramond for more picture postcard views on every corner. Thank you for trying to save that fox BTW. Have a like and a subscribe 😊
Thank you so much, Davey! 🥰 We'll definitely branch out and hit some new parts of the city when we return at the end of the month.
@@qlctravels awesome 👍
One thing I will say about Foxes. They have been living along side us since the ice age. They don't need feeding, they don't need water they will survive anyway.
The views from the Nelson Monument are amazing. But its only open in summer.
SSPCA are unlikely to do anything, wildlife isn't their main concern. There are various individual wildlife rescue, sanctuary, rehab places around, better to contact one of them (unfortunately, not always easy to find)
Wait till you go to the highlands, Hebrides, Isle of Skye, orkney…
Going to the Highlands tomorrow, actually! Wedged in some extra Scotland time at the end of our trip because we loved Edinburgh so much. (And we're absolutely planning to return and see more in the near future.)
@@qlctravels enjoy 😊 and welcome back!
So many scenes of the gothic style Scott monument. Was it open for you to climb the spiral staircase to the various upper levels?
Unless windy it normally is now (I work in that group of museums)
We don’t recall seeing anyone climbing it when we visited that first day - but now that we know it’s possible, that’s 100% on the must-do list for our inevitable return to Edinburgh.
I went to University in Edinburgh and have worked in the city for the past 25 years, I only got around to climbing it for the first time last year, I literally walk by it 5 days a week, so don’t worry about missing it on a short visit (well worth the wait incidentally).
The one o'clock gun and the castle innards were a must ,did you guys miss it ?
Edinburgh is all right, but you should've gone to Glasgow. Out of all the cities in the world that I've been to (currently 200+), Glasgow is in my top 3 best along with Florence, Italy and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Ha ha! You must be joking? No-one in their right mind thinks Glasgow's better than Edinburgh. It is what is known colloquially as a 'sheethoal'.
They’ve got another country for every week I think.
my sisters love Calton Hill they always go during the fire festival ive never gone there despite living here my whole life im always busy with my kids during Halloween but google calton hill fire festival you'll see an interesting side to it haha
So many other beautiful places to visit in Scotland.
Agreed. After Edinburgh, I'd recommend highland Perthshire. Dunkeld, Pitlochry and Aberfeldy are picturesque towns with beautiful woodland and riverside walks to enjoy.
Did you find the playhouse on the clip at 1 min 50 you were about 30 seconds from there
Love the content. Would like to know the place where you ate “one of the best meals you ever had” since I am visiting September 2024.
It was a Kurdish grill house called "Daika."
Thanks, Trevor 🙂 It was a bit of a shock at first, but we've gotten pretty used to comments like that. Doesn't bother us in the slightest.
@qlctravels
Did you get your sword?
@qlctravels like, did you order it for delivery to the US?
I think you deserve a conversation piece that lets you talk more about Edinburgh/ Scotland. You guys love of Scotland is amazing to watch.
Yeah, had it shipped back. Totally worth it 🗡️

When you were phoning the SSPCA about the poor fox.....I get it mrs!
I always think though..... why do people put animals in front of our injured/homeless?....... some of who were veterans.
Great video from a Londoner living in wales. Don't forget to visit us, we have a great coastline and fantastic castles.
Wales is gorgeous.
@@albin2232 Lol yeah but the county I live in (Aberdeenshire) has more castles than any other county in the UK so imagine how many castles there are in the whole of Scotland 😃
@@keithewright Yeah, wouldn't be good to forget AberDOOM!
Don’t you know Scotland is the home of whisky. It’s where you get the worlds best single malt. Some of them go for hundreds of thousands of pounds auction.
A 1926 Macallan recently sold for over £2m at Sotheby's.
Who introduced you to \Jammy Dodgers biscuits (Cookies)

Pronunciation respect to you from a native ;-)
The whisky comment made me laugh more than it should have. I know a lot of countries are synonymous with a certain alcoholic beverage but are there any others that can actually be named like whisky = Scotch?
Everyone knows tequila is Mexican but you would never ask for a bottle of Mexican but are there any others?
It made me want to cry actually.
🤣
Panda and sons, the voodoo rooms for cocktails
Great vid of my capital city- ps , the fox died
Nah, he lived on and became president of his fox tribe. His injury was merely the wake up call he needed to get his life back on track. 🦊
Your Dad was in the U.S. Navy at Holy Loch?
Edzell
I imagined the Holy Loch too. When i was growing up in the early to mid 80s we had an American navy guy called Don move in across the road. He used to bbq his food almost daily. Raining? No problem, he took the bbq in the garage and we would see the smoke billowing out.
It was fascinating for us kids, he was a nice man.
Good on you tried
There are millions of foxes in Edinburgh lol
Who knew that Emily Vancamp and Alex Richter ('The Kung Fu Genius') were a couple and would love my city so much?😄
The world is full of surprises! 😊
Edinburgh is amazing an all ,BUT u will be blown away with GLASGOW
Glasgow is a dump
Love weegieland ❤, mon' the weegies! 😂
From Edinburgh to sectarian hatred in one ferry. Enjoy :D
Edinburgh is lovely, but Belfast is my absolute favourite city in the UK (after Manchester, my home town)!
I had a great time in Belfast. The people are really nice. All the best from Edinburgh 👍
yes great city such a disgrace they spent huge money on a old tech tram line and the roads are full of pot holes total joke Edinburgh City Council, not a clue
Nah, it’s a folly built by someone with more money than sense, not an original Greek temple!
Tip: Please don't pan the camera so quickly. Take your time. It's nonsense to try and show the city if you're zooming past it. Thank you.
You’ll never attend a wedding in Edinburgh more fun than a funeral in Glasgow. Edinburgh looks pretty but Glasgow has the soul.
this comment is 100% accurate.
The only reason they celebrate at Glasgow funerals is because they're glad that one of their own has finally been able to get out of the place.
