      @@Jason.King.at.your.service Read my reply more carefully and bear in mind that I'm responding to the original comment on the relatively narrow point about whether Clarkson is playing a character to get a rise out of them. From that you've leapt to an absurd conclusion that I 'can't stand anyone who has a different view from (me)'. How ridiculously aggressive. You don't know me from Adam.
      I suggest you calm down and lose the needlessly adversarial language.
      As it happens I do disagree with him about electric cars when taken in the round. You haven't specified exactly which point about electric cars Clarkson 'is right about' but he has a tendency to pick the facts that support his view and disregard anything that doesn't. On balance, electric cars are more environmentally friendly than petrol/diesel although they do/may of course still use electricity derived from fossil fuels but the direction of travel is necessarily and inevitably moving towards lower carbon sources so Clarkson's argument on that front is becoming less relevant by the day. Clarkson is intelligent enough to know this but he plays the boorish character that he's developed over the last few decades (for entertainment purposes) and which doesn't fit the broader scientific picture. My point as that many fans view Clarkson as 'the science'

That doesn't mean he can't also be a very professional journalist and have a heart. People's characters aren't a single thing.
      I watched the making of The Greatest Raid of All and he is as enthusiastic about the material off-camera as he is when presenting. He calls the bit where they sail into the harbor, with him on the bow, as the best piece to camera he ever did. Worth the watch, both the documentary and the making of. The effort and dedication that went into the practical effects is amazing. Same with the Wilman interview, it's a two-parter. Oh sure, I do agree. It depends on your definition of intelligent. He's smart and savvy, he's done extremely well for himself. He's said on many occasions, he doesn't even know how an engine works and his views on climate change I'm not sure are just controversial for the sake of his humour being based in antagonist.!
      I like him because he's 'real' and honest. He states his opinion and sticks to it - even if it isn't exactly politically correct or scientifically accurate.
      It's hard to go into detail in a youtube comment reply.. it's quicker to generalise. I worry about the future, we have a lot of problems to overcome and I'm hoping that we are developing the right technology at the right time to deal with them all.. its almost coincidental that we are on the cusp of an AI revolution that will either save or destroy us.. but I fell like we can't stop marching forward because we've pretty much painted ourselves into a corner about how to escape our issues. We have to dabble in dangerous technology in order to save ourselves from our other self inflicted problems.
      Interestingly, cars are painted as a major contributor to climate change but transportation only accounts for 14% of CO2 emissions. The blame being placed at the feet of the public (as usual) when industry is the real culprit.
      In fact, industry and agriculture/food production account for more than 40%.

      He is not that real in many cases. He knows very well how to present himself depending on the situation. I like him, but he has been very racist too many times.
      We're 4 decades late to the "new technology party" as I said. I doubt AI is going to save us as the problem is big corporations buying politicians to have them serve the needs of the business. That is what drives climate change.

As for disliking American culture u doesnt like the over the top excess - didnt stop him preordering the gt40 which he saved about nor his appreciation of Shelby and mustang. Also random fact, his parents were solely responsible for clothing the Paddington bear toys and changing the way Paddington looked for ever after. They put the the duffel coat on him, as he was previously naked bar his hat, and added Wellington boots to him to aid the you to stand up. Clarkson is top shelf. Watch his interview where u talks about clumping piers Morgan, breaking his finger and what he says about piers

    The same people that want everyone to drive electric cars is the ones that are against nuclear power. But if england swithes all their vehicles to electric they need to build another 13ish nuclear powerstations that are bigger then what they have now(and keeping the old ones).

  • @GrilloTheFlightless
    @GrilloTheFlightless 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    I don’t agree with Clarkson on everything, but I’m with him on electric cars. The power to charge them has to come from somewhere. In the U.K. most of our power stations use fossil fuels (gas and coal - although coal is being phased out big time) and nuclear. Both have lots of environmental nasties attached to them. Gas and coal have high carbon emissions. Nuclear doesn’t, but there’s that whole issue with nuclear waste that doesn’t sit easily with everyone.
    But that’s nothing compared to the production of the lithium batteries. 77% of the worlds lithium batteries are made in China who mainly use coal as the energy source for the production process. There are some estimates that the production of lithium car batteries produces more CO2 emissions than traditional cars. The Berylls Strategy Advisors (an automotive consultancy) carried out some research in Germany and concluded that a car battery weighing 1,100 pounds emits over 70% more carbon dioxide than producing a conventional car.
    And then there’s the mineral waste leakage that often occurs in the extraction and processing of lithium. And the night demand for water in the process which has been associated in some cases with polluting reservoirs. And all of this is before you delve into the world of harmful chemical leakage from discarded lithium batteries in scrap yards and landfills around the world.
    Governments and companies around the world are championing electric cars more and more. It’s done so that people think they’re doing a great job in preserving our environment. But it’s a scam devised to attract votes and make money.
    I don’t believe you’ll ever undo the damage we’ve done to the environment with technology by creating more technology. If we are all prepared to give up our cars and gadgets and go back to a pre-Industrial Revolution way of life we’d at least stop things getting worse. We’d then have to think of a way to reverse the process. But we’d have to reject our current way of life completely. And nobody, myself included, is willing to do that.

He takes the mickey out of people, institutions, governments etc. People have forgotten what free speech looks like and take themselves too seriously. Clarkson is a sensible down to earth normal British bloke who isn't a dreamer, because he's awake! According to Al Gore we should have seen Polar Bears clinging to ice cubes floating down the main street 15 years ago but he's still flying around the world on his private jet spreading climate anxiety, and making lots of money from it.

    • @scottb9669
      @scottb9669 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is part of the problem, though. You have these views because tabloid headlines were wrong and people like Al Gore weren't entirely correct, but why do you care what they say? Why not read what the majority of scientists are saying in their papers? The opposition is nearly always working class "bloke" types who never had any interest in science or academia until the past 5 years, and now they are suddenly experts on vaccines and climate change because they read some nonsense on Facebook which made more sense to their uneducated brains. A statement like "6c warmer climate means we'd be the same as the south of France!" is such a small minded view that would only make sense to a simpleton.
