  • Leaving Belfast didn't go as smoothly as we'd hoped -- but once we got to Dublin, our fortunes slowly turned around, and we had a blast exploring the city! From tasting the freshest Guinness one can taste, to exploring a one-of-a-kind exhibit at the university, to holding a UFC championship belt, Ireland had plenty of memorable experiences to welcome us with!

Irish is mandatory in the Republic, so all Irish citizens know their national language to some degree, but you wouldnt likely hear it spoken in Dublin due to its tourist-driven cosmopolitan landscape, you'd hear it spoken in the westerly parts of the Irish isle. Similarly when you were in Edinburgh, you'd hear people speaking English with a Scottish accent, perhaps a little colloquial vernacular at best, but not much more. ......however outside of the Scottish capital you'd be hard pushed to hear much if at all any English spoken, with most lowlanders speaking Scots or one of the many dialects therein (such as Doric in Aberdeen or Weegie in Glasgow) while in the Western Isles of Scotland Scottish Gaelic is more commonly spoken. Incidentally the latter of the two aforementioned Scottish languages (Scottish Gaelic) is mutually intelligible -for the most part- with Irish, both being celtic languages; as opposed to Scots which is more closely related to other Germanic languages like Dutch, Flemish, Frisian and, most notably, English.
btw, the whole going to Dublin to drink Guiness is so passé for us more seasoned world travellers (Cheap shot i know, sorry not sorry lol). the real magic in Dublin begins and ends with the Abra-Kebabra fast food outlets. delicious.
That's me onto your third video, so far so good.

Thank you for showing the realities of travel. It's all WORTH it, but it is not always a walk in the park!
Chin up. More will go wrong, but those will end up being some of your favorite stories!

😊❤😊 This is so true. Over all of these years some of my very favorite travel tales are the things that have gone wrong. That heightened tension, you remember every second. 😊😊😊 My Rome Polizi trying to get from the boons of the city to the train station is an epic tale😊❤😅😅😅

Well, the language is actually on the rise among young people in particular. Technology is actually helping in bringing the language back back. Dublin actually has Gaeltacht events around the city. Interestingly enough after 100 years of being independent, the Irish are finally becoming less colonized in their thinking.

The flicker on your video is probably your camera settings. Power in North America is distributed at 60 hertz and in Europe it’s at 50 hertz. You can change a setting in your camera which will eliminate flickering under artificial lights.

I so get being down as a consequence of things going wrong and carrying that with you, and potentially affecting other aspects of your day or trip overall, and needing to - as Taylor says - Shake it off. Music works for me, and maybe that's partly why you need the earplugs (?) - but what also helps is doing what you did, which was to confront it and express it and understand why it was there and how it was affecting you. That in itself helped you to overcome it, as well as of course the sights and sounds you enjoyed later on.
I can see that what you are doing is not just chronicling your trip for the sake of having a TH-cam following, but so you can look back on it and maybe show it to a family down the line. But whatever the reasons, it's all a really good watch, not just to see what you make of places I know and have been to, and even lived in, but of places I don't and haven't. So yes, make sure you enjoy yourselves and not allow the videos to be too much of a burden, but also know you did a great job making them and they are accessible, and you are both really good hosts.
But also, yeah, I hope to hear less about Harry Potter from now on. But I suppose that some sort of American exuberance was bound to show its face :P

We appreciate the kind words, and also your insight. You’re 100% correct: this series isn’t meant to be a polished, top-tier travel show, but merely us documenting our experiences traveling for the very first time (though we strive to make it entertaining for a broader audience, of course). We love that people are following along, and absolutely appreciate everyone who watches, though at times some of our international audience forgets we’re also speaking to Americans back home who don’t already know the things we’re pointing out, or who may never see any of the things we’re seeing (so while much of these videos may be two Americans doing touristy things, it’s all completely new to us and those back home who follow us). We won’t be able to please everyone, or go to all the places everyone has suggested (at least on this trip), but we’re so, SO happy you and others are enjoying the videos. We’ve had a few other down days since Dublin, but we took T Swift’s words of wisdom and did, indeed, Shake It Off each time.
Long story short: Thanks for watching and reaching out! 😊
(Oh, and yes, music helps tremendously. 🎶)

I've never been to Dublin but it, understandably, looks so much like a large English city it feels strange to me it's a place still to be explored. We'll finally do that this year and vlog it too I reckon.

The more the merrier! 😄 We got that same impression about Dublin visually. There was still plenty to see and do, but honestly, it wasn't until we took a day trip outside the city that Ireland TRULY spoke to us. We got the experience we missed our first go around in Scotland, but hope to get when we visit the Highlands in a few weeks.

Dublin is small in comparison to Glasgow did open top bus ride in both Belfast and Dublin and i nevr cared to get off at Guinness factory as feel Guiness tends to go right through their leprechaun pants :D ..Ive been to Belfast and nothing great about it either as all they tend to smile at is they say the Europa hotel across from Crown bar is the most bombed hotel in Europe and locals all like saying such with a smile on their faces :) not amusing id say .. In Scotland regards both Edinburgh and Glasgow . Edinburgh being prettiest city of them all with most history ..Glasgow being largest and most friendliest .
As for Perth in Scotland and Inverness although smaller are the prettiest of all within UK or Rep of Ireland .

I was hoping you were going to see some of James Joyce's Dublin and show us. A definite must do if you return. Gaelic is the language you called Irish and is on the UNESCO endangered language list as "threatened" having only 20 - 30,000 speakers. Not dissimilar to English in North America ;-)

It's been a mix of both. We have a general route of cities/countries, but we've made tweaks several times throughout the trip. Nothing as laid back as "let's go wherever, whenever," but also not as strict as everything being booked weeks or months in advance.

Not true to say that us irish can't speak our language at all,its a compulsory subject in school so people have a few phrases however probably only a quarter of million speak it fluently and only 70 000 outside the education system speak it every day.
Those people outside the pubs were probably smoking as its illegal to smoke indoors, which ireland was the first country in europe to ban indoor smoking in public areas.
Connor Mcgregor is not terribly popular though he has made statements recently that ordinary people supported but not the establishment of course.

    • @qlctravels
      @qlctravels  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

Thanks for the clarification about the language. Another commenter pointed out the number of fluent speakers is trending upwards, so that’d be great to see it come back with the newer generations.
And yeah, our tour guide for our Wicklow day trip mentioned Conor’s lack of popularity in Ireland. Pretty shocking to have fallen so low in just a few years, when (I’m assuming) he was highly regarded by most of his nation at the start of his career.
