No spoilers, but in general characters for this show and Hazbin are not always initially what we see them as and their relationships to others. So its probably a good idea to not judge too quickly till you get more of the story for them.
Fun no spoilers fact, the opening scene is officially entirely real, not illusion or imagination. Owl Daddy used his magic and incredible grasp on astronomy to casually visit a dying star system for the most epic lullaby ever. I am incredibly jealous, id love to be able to safely do something that with the kids in my life Also yes, Stolas has changed. I'm pretty sure others have mentioned the pilot is no longer canon, and his character is one of the larger changes. He was originally going to be an antagonist of the series, sort of in a similar role as Alastor.
It's frustrating, but you're right, though I do hope someone explained the hierarchy in Hell since that was more panels and Twitter posts rather than in-episode content
Yes, pretty much all of the characters in Helluva Boss are 'Hellborn' with the exception of the I.M.P. clients. The hierarchy is a bit convoluted but the 'Goetia' make up a nobility class while imps and hellhounds are at the very bottom of the food chain.
Stolas - You know what I haven't done in a long, long time? Kyra - Being faithful Gosh, it shouldn't make me laugh so hard, but it does, even tho you're not the first reactor I hear saying this xD But it's so far from the truth, it's just funny EDIT : ok, I get why people were afraid of spoilers here. Stolas isn't even trying to find excuses, but to explain, because he hadn't so far (from my understanding). But yeah, I do feel like HE, of all people, has excuses for cheating, even if he definitely should have handled things differently. But I'm not someone personally sensible to such things, on the contrary, so... ^^'
I’m a Stolas, married to a blitz, and while the unfaithfulness wasn’t the same situation, I 100% agree. Sometimes there’s a reason that can be worked on, and a happy relationship can still happen. But therapy is really helpful lol. 😂😅❤
This was the sweetest reaction to Stolas' lullaby, I love this! No spoilers as to why but Stolas is probably my favourite character in this show, at least top 3, he's a horny owl but he's a sweet owl. Also Bryce has SUCH a beautiful voice, the amount of control and emotion he can channel astounds me.
His wife was more upset that Blitzo is an imp, who, along with Hellhounds, are the lowest of the low in terms of the class system in Hell. She honestly doesn't give a single eff about Stolas personally, just her social reputation as a noble.
yes, that is Helluva Boss for you Southpark/American Dad/Simpsons/ Bojack Horseman - all turned up to eleven...and when you least expect it, it suckerpunch you with feelings and wholesomeness no wonder so many of us fallen in love with the show
Look at the group photo of the three. You will see that Stella has her arms crossed and looks annoyed. Se even leans a little bit away from Octavia and Stolas. She's clearly not interested in being in this photo. As you noticed Octavia is deeply influenced by Stolas. It's most likely that he's the one who mainly raised Octavia. Stella is noticeably absence in Octavia's live. I wouldn't be surprised if Stella completely ignored Stolas and Octavia's after her birth.
I'd like to comment on a few things: I love that you were able to catch the astronomy stuff about Octavia and Stolas. That's going to come up later. Also there was a detail that I think you glossed over. It was that Stella( Stolas' Wife) was more upset that Stolas cheated with an imp specifically more so than the act of cheating itself. And to answer your question about Stolas and his Family, yes they're hellborn. There are waaay more hellborn demons outside just imps and hellhounds. Great video, and great analysis and reaction ♥️♥️♥️♥️
Stolas, his wife Stella, and Octavia are part of the Ars Goetia: Hellborn demon royalty/nobility. Up from them, you've got the rulers of the Rings of Hell, the Deadly Sins. Down from them, you've got the "commoner" hellborn: Succubi/Incubi, Imps, and at the bottom of the pecking order, the Hellhounds. There'll be other Hellborn types in the mix too, but the above are the most commonly seen in the show. Edit: A couple notes about the Imps- They're sexually dimorphic with their horns, male Imps have thick black/white stripes and females have thick black/thin white stripes. Also, the white patches on Imps' skin is often scar tissue.
@@fluffybuttmutt2450 Rewatching, and yep. Looks like either they were mostly fem imps, or that fact got lost in translation to the animators, and they just drew whatever?
@@MintyBachemI have to admit that it's now funny to imagine that there's a whole group of lady assassins with early 1900s gangster aesthetic out there.
Please keep in mind that stella is more pissed about the fact that hes slept with an imp (a peasant) and that he didnt hide it better, leading to embarrasment in their NOBLE social circle, instead of being upset at the cheating in general. Also important: Stolas is clearly queer
Stolas and his finally are nobility in the hellborn hierarchy. He is a literal prince of hell, based on real life demonology. Stolas deals with plants and astronomy, and is actually a pacifist, and one of the better demons.
Worth noting that Stolas in the irl Ars Goetia (a human encyclopedia about demons) is only a pacifist because he's grown tired of war because he learned everything there was to learn. He was bored and needed to learn, so he spoke with humans and learned more that way.
I'll put this separate. But. Stolas, irl mythohistory stolas, was autistic. Obsessed with learning, uncaring for social constraints, etc. But that if he lived into the modern world, he'd no longer be a pacifist, technology advances too fast to learn everything about every new toy before the next one is invented. Modern stolas that reignited his passion for war would be the most horrible thing.
Wow, a lot of this episode hits very different on a rewatch after seeing some later episodes. I can't really comment on any of it without spoiling, I'm just saying I'm really looking forward to seeing how your opinion on Stolas will evolve. To add a little fun fact: that's not the first time you see a Robo-Fizzaroll (while it is its first chronological appearance). Val has one and uses it as a serve in many scenes in Hazbin, episode 2.
Not a spoiler but an observation of Stolas till this point he's royalty and pretty much lives a sheltered existence, so just keep that in mind when you judge him based on our own lives, the dude is about half as mature even though he's probably 4x as intelligent.
His wife is an abusive monster which is more explained later and there are circumstances to their marriage situation which are also explained later. Also all of Helluva boss is about the day to day life of the hell born. The entire main cast and supporting characters are hell born. The show dose little to explain the lore.
I actually think Stolas' lullaby was literal. He's an astronomer/prognosticator and probably knows he's fated to die 'on the last day', he's lived his whole life passively up until meeting Blitz (the O is silent) because his fate is pre-determined.
Stolas casually walking over a moon unharmed by the forces of destruction and the pull of the sun and collapse of a supernova all while hitting those notes is so badass. Yet he still wants to have Blitz around for "protection". Stolas has had a unloved arranged marriage, he tried to make it work, but to no avail. Yes he is a douche cheating, he can be a great dad though.
I really wouldn't call him a great dad for not listening to his daughter when she told him twice she didn't want to go to Loo Loo Land, then bringing along the guy who caused the problem in the first place. He LOVES Octavia, sure, but he doesn't listen to her or know her.

Lulu world and LooLoo Land (which has exorcist, sins, and sinner themes in the backgrounds as easter eggs), raise some questions. In Hazbin Hotel it seems we only see one city, Pentagram City and a red rocky wasteland around it. Lucifer's palace is not in the city (we see the map during a power outage), the Hotel is just outside the city. The theme park (Lulu world) is also not visible. The imps live in Imp city, this helps keep the two shows apart while both IMP and the hotel being in the pride ring. But it also means the pride ring is bigger than we think and the overlords are more like mob bosses fighting over territory in one city...and it sounds like at times that many of them and the sinners don't even know there are other locations outside the pentagram, but other sinners are in Imp city, just not as many.
Yes every demon in Helluva Boss are Hellborns except for clients . Imps are the lowest class together with hellhounds that imps can adopt . I really recommend the hell hierarchy which is Canon when it comes to power in hell

Stolas could have cheated on Stella with her brother and she wouldn't have cared, its that it was with an imp...a lower class comminor hellborn that she is upset about. The Goetia family are weird about this whole royal heirarchy in Hell thing. The Seven Sins and Lucifer family don't even seem to be directly involved with as much or care as much about it as the Goetia do.
12:55 I think this park on a Pride. And this one on Greed is more for helborns. Lucifer Park probably even has more of a circus theme, so Allastor wouldn't like it
29:46 The real one is even closer most likely, since they live on Pride. But when Octavia was a child, they went to the fake one, so they went there now for the memories. It may be inconvenient for them to go the one at Pride. There are most likely a lot of sinners there and it can be really dangerous
Aside from Lucifer, Lilith, Vaggie and the sinners who remain in the pride ring, everyone else is Hellborn. And it awoke in him realization that he may not be attracted to women and he was attracted to at least one male Imp. This was his first encounter with any real emotions. It took him entirely. The sham marriage he was part of became more and more of a burden. But his love for his daughter never dwindled. And he has been on a journey learning how to express his love to both his daughter and Blitzo. Of all the characters in Helluva he has the most proactive growth arc.
