oh yeah.. talk about longevity.. he started in the 40s, always playing beautiful, always playing with the very best. One of the great drummers of all time.
Was sitting out by the pool with my wife and Miroslav and his girlfriend sometime in the 70's... all of a sudden he got up and said "I've got to go inside".... I asked why? He said "to Practice". Minimum 4 hours a day just doing woodshed. What a genius he was and is. He now has that Orchestral Suite that he developed with all the instruments of the Orchestra fully translated to Digital so the sounds could work with MIDI. I think Miroslav is still in Prague.... still making great music.
Great palying all round--exceptionally good, and Chick's comping adds his inimitable magic. Check out the related interview between Getz and Perlman in which Getz sings Corea's praises as the finest player to come out of his band. Praise indeed!
You ever see that film 'Big Trouble in Little China'? There's a scene where one of the three storms keeps inflating until he explodes. Kinda reminds me of Diz..
Lenny Bruce, when finding himself in front of an audience like this, would describe it as "Playing to Mt. Rushmore.....There's Washington, Lincoln, and Jefferson, staring at you like you just buggered the Christmas Goose...."
Getz & Gillespie cut a great record together in 1953- wish "Groovin' High" had been on there. And with all the dead air in that room, I agree with previous comments that putting on a decent showing is the very definition of "pro".
"Groovin' High" is just the thing that you want to hear, Mr. President, before you head into a meeting with the "Joint Chiefs of Staff." Was this performance given during the Reagan Administration? Delicious!
lol ''the pianist'' lololol,, it s Chick!!! and he s taking one hell of a solo,,, I think Stan was just looking at him saying '' what r u going to do with that wild comping,,,,'' he was curious i think,, but yeah sure he had to do a great solo after head comping,,, ..... changing subject ,,, do you think they were more wasted or less wasted playing at the white house? lol
Lets HEAR it 4-the boyz WHOOA. Itzhak was the only one shakin his head . WOEo , AndThe Wizard,of oz at Heart ,who's behind that curtain. Scary place to play. Hope they all ate a well and partied and got the Hell out of there safely..Getz always has that rip in His eyes .
@SiCmetalfan That's not exactly true read Dizzy's book "To be or not to bop" One of Dizzy musician friends, a really fat guy, sat on is trumpet at a jam session, by accident. How do these false stories get started He was pissed about it but then he checked the sound out he liked it
Excuse my ignorance here, but why does Dizzy always play with the trumpet bell turned up like that? I've maybe only seen one or two other players with that. What's the difference/advantage?
someone will correct me if I'm wrong but, I believe it's the other way 'round: Miles took a bit of the old Groovin' High recording for his Four. At least that's how I remember it.
Jazz - the best thing to have come out of America.
Roy Haynes, y'all! And he is still doing it in his 80's!
oh yeah.. talk about longevity.. he started in the 40s, always playing beautiful, always playing with the very best. One of the great drummers of all time.
man Chick Corea is an amazing accompanist!!!!!!!! that lil lick he plays @ 0:41 even has stan looking back like wth lol...this is great!
Stan looked at him, saying "Stop messing around and play the right chords! "
Agreed
There was a reason why stan wanted chick in his band so i doubt he dislikes his comping.
Getz was fantastic and Dizzy!!! What lines.. And in the white house!

If he's such a genius, how come he didn't know a common tune like "Whispering"?
Magical Shepherd said to me !
How these guys could play at that level to the vibe this crowd emanate ... guess that is what it means to be a true pro
Wow Dizzy!!! And all these musicians were so great...♥
Great palying all round--exceptionally good, and Chick's comping adds his inimitable magic. Check out the related interview between Getz and Perlman in which Getz sings Corea's praises as the finest player to come out of his band. Praise indeed!
0:40 lol Stan had to turn around and dig what Chick was doing
Stan had to turn around to tell him to stop monking around and play the right chords.

"Groovin' High" is just the thing that you want to hear, Mr. President, before you head into a meeting with the "Joint Chiefs of Staff." Was this performance given during the Reagan Administration? Delicious!
Yeah the year was 1984. BTW, a long time ago, I was in a band called the Joint Chiefs. LOL
lol ''the pianist'' lololol,, it s Chick!!! and he s taking one hell of a solo,,,

Roy ! Chick ! Diz and Getz ignoring each other.... Getz had big head
Awesome! Too bad they couldn't find any better players :)
Yeah!.... They could find the piano and bass players who know this tune better than these two and swing better!
There are nor have there ever been any better players.
Hihi !
If we were dressed like the musicians for a private party or mariage we were licencied…
Wow! Roy is so sharp :)
Holly freakin cow!

Fuck yeah!!!
and did you catch Stan play the lick from the tune "FOUR" @ 2:00
Everybody wants to be in charge.
Everybody in that group IS actually in charge!
america's music
Was that Itsak Perlman introducing them??
Wooow, thats itzhak perlman presenting them!
1982
Years of playing had weakened the muscle structure in Dizzy's face, causing it to flex so dramatically. An occupational hazzard of some trumpet men.
someone should tell Stan to not put is hand there on th epiano,, it is very dangerous,,,,
other than that,,, wow,,, good stuff!
❤️
Why is there a Roland Space Echo at the white house?
YEAR please?
When was this recorded? I guess around 1980...
1982
Nice...nice...But I wonder : when the good Musicians/Artist will stop to play for Iluminatis People..?
Excuse my ignorance here, but why does Dizzy always play with the trumpet bell turned up like that? I've maybe only seen one or two other players with that. What's the difference/advantage?
What's tune ? 🙄💙🌱☝️すごいメンバーだ。
Groovin High
@@MsMojoworks

A bit of Miles Davis' 'Four' at 6:13 from Diz?
someone will correct me if I'm wrong but, I believe it's the other way 'round: Miles took a bit of the old Groovin' High recording for his Four. At least that's how I remember it.
old comments but i heard the original is actually from Tadd Dameron's "If You Could See Me Now"
Hey Bush....Pay attention!

wat kind of trrumpet is that thing??
is that pearlman introducing?
lol scary audience is right! izthak perlman introduces
@ksenos69 Stan turning his back on the Just Say No lady. Ha!
Candy
@ksenos69 hahaha, it's almost a wasted performance, if it wasn't for it being video documented this would have been lost!!!!
Sex music or the so called: girl's placebo.
It looks like his chick is going to explode the entire place
genius music, but scary audience. look at them, they hardly live.
I wonder if Stan was high
Why? It's none of anyone's business. More importantly, his playing was great, as usual.
My god !! is like a frog
6:27 George Bush Snr, Barbara Bush and Nancy Reagan.
Blergh!
@@Rickriquinho You no like Georgie, Barbie and Nancy?
Stan eyes chick while soloing like he is to make him his next rape victim.
Both Chick Corea and Miroslav Vitous are using music to play a common jazz tune like "Whispering". Typical "fusion" players!.....
Those cheeks look painful. I can listen, but I can’t watch that. Looks horrible
