Thanks for your effort with the video 👌👌👌 Of course I left the subscription there! Best regards from Germany Kalle
Thank you for the great tutorial. There was no internet and no instructions came with the slingshots I purchased years ago, nor was there anyone to ask for help learning to shoot the slingshot accurately so it was point and shoot inaccurately with no idea what to do to improve. So, John, if one's shots are low, one raises the catty. But what if raising the catty obscures the bullseye, as it actually did in your demo? Wouldn't it be better to lower one's anchor point, to still see the bullseye, then shoot?
Thanks John for a great informative tutorial. Hoping you could confirm before I get out next to practice, My reference is centrally locked for windage, but having to guess my elevation all the time which is constantly going high using my chin as the anchor, I appreciate one or two maybe off due to release issues, but having revisited your video I suspect raising my anchor to the corner of my mouth or even my eye socket instead of my chin, will direct my shots down and hopefully negate the need to reference guess my aiming elevation, which is presently way below the intended target point.
Thank you, this is the best tutorial I have been able to find. It should make a great difference in my accuracy. will watch again to get what I missed the first time.

wonderful wonderful wonderful! I enjoy that you are not telling people that there is only one way. You are right that as long as you are hitting the target you are doing what suits you. I have taught rifle and handgun marksmanship and my classes were very similar to this class. It was nice for me to have it broken back down from grade one and worked up from there. I would love to be one of the guys that can not think and just shoot but I think there are years ahead of me before that. So I am going to take your thumb to cheek method and see where that takes me. Thanks again for your videos. Now if I can use your other video and attach my pouch and straps then we will see how I do. ha ha
John, Thank you so much for your videos! As a kid, I never could grasp how to aim a catapult, but recently, with your help, I have found a new love for shooting. I have been practicing tons and was even able to bag my first rabbit with a perfect shot to the head from about 30 feet. I hope to get more into the sport and maybe even comps eventually! Cheers!
Hi John , a great video once again,! was thinking of making my own catapult, I work in a timber mill were off cuts are sometimes plentyfull , not sure what wood to use though or what thickness ? Atm were working with white oak witch probably is the hardest stuff we've used so far would this be ok ? thanks in advance to anyone who can answer these questions
watching you from nz great stuff man. have you got a video how to aim with Marksman slingshot type, those with rounded tube much. as the forks are narrow do i just use the fork's end as my reference point? cheers
Thanks for the video. I am 100% Green. How much practice do you think it may take for me to get a hang of this? I bruised my thumb on my first try. So I was out for a week. lol . so I bought a guard so I can mess up more times and I can still keep going.
Great vid and made a lot of sense. But a bit confused with regards to distance you was using to sight in on! Is there an optimum distance so as to then work on drop at distance and climb when closer? Try standing 1 ft closer to a dartboard and aim at the bull.. you will hit top part of 20's every time if not over the top of the board.
Excellent advice here, John. The techniques you describe are in fact similar to archery, where the bow string anchor is commonly the tip of the nose. Body alignment i.e. standing sideways with the feet aligned is also important. Holding one's breath while aiming and shooting can also help (something I learned with firearms). As you say, consistency to ensure reference and anchor alignment, but also constant draw weights, is essential to achieve accuracy. Centering ammo in the pouch not only improves accuracy, but also helps to avoid fork hits. Ballistics is another key issue: BB weights should be consistent. The only time that these techniques do not necessarily work is when shooting according to the so-called "semi-butterfly" or "full butterfly" method to obtain maximum power: do you have any advice for this shooting style in terms of accuracy?
So I guess that adjusting the reference point for given ranges is simply a matter of practicing at those distances and remembering the new reference point?? Are there any videos for this?
Good video! Ive got one of the modern type catapults with an srm extension. Im useless with it. This video has now tsught me how to use it properly so my aim will be on target every time. Well done.
Thanks great video. If shooting "gangster" would people select multiple reference points that equate to distances? Or do people select one reference point and Kentucky windage for elevation?
So does this same apply for when shooting at a much further distance? I would think you would have to aim higher and higher for further away targets. I have watched some videos of tournaments and they have to shoot targets that are hard to even see let alone hit with a ball :)
The below is my question, If you keep the same anchor point on your face and you have to raise the sling shot you'll be covering up your target plus you don't know by how much you have elevated your sling shot above your target. I've never understood how you do that!
Hi john, great video very helpful. Could you tell me if there is much compensation need over distance? I normally shoot a rifle and obviously there is adjustments needed over distance, is this the same with a catapult?
Hi John - one thing I'm not sure of - I've noticed when you shoot, you close your right eye like shooting with a telescopic sight on an air rifle. I've been watching another youtube shooter; Wayne from Catty shack and he shoots with both eyes open. He says he used to shoot left handed but changed in 2019 because he's right eye dominant. He also says one eyed shooting's good for targets but not for hunting. I've noticed you're left handed and you shoot with the left eye open and the right eye shut - Is this just for target shooting or do you shoot with both eyes open for hunting? Any advice on this topic greatly appreciated. Cheers Simon
great vid, couple quistions though.... what distance are you using to get the reference point and do u close one eye when aiming or keep both open please

I have been practicing tons and was even able to bag my first rabbit with a perfect shot to the head from about 30 feet. I hope to get more into the sport and maybe even comps eventually! Cheers!
Brilliant......Best video I've seen on aiming. It's really helped me a lot. Thanks.
Thanks for the help in your 📹 just bought one of your bloodstopper catapult really impressed 👏
So I guess that adjusting the reference point for given ranges is simply a matter of practicing at those distances and remembering the new reference point??
Are there any videos for this?
What is your opinion on the more "high tech" slingshots, like ones with sights and arm braces? This is in terms of taking game with a slingshot.
Good video! Ive got one of the modern type catapults with an srm extension. Im useless with it. This video has now tsught me how to use it properly so my aim will be on target every time. Well done.
Loved this helped me out loads!!!i noticed after watching this I was rotation the pouch and it was casing my shots to be off target!
Hi John when shooting is it better with one eye shut or keep them both open 🤔
Thanks great video. If shooting "gangster" would people select multiple reference points that equate to distances? Or do people select one reference point and Kentucky windage for elevation?
So does this same apply for when shooting at a much further distance? I would think you would have to aim higher and higher for further away targets. I have watched some videos of tournaments and they have to shoot targets that are hard to even see let alone hit with a ball :)
John, do you think the Daisy F-16 slingshot is adequate for household squirrel, mouse and bird plinking at 10 meters?
The below is my question, If you keep the same anchor point on your face and you have to raise the sling shot you'll be covering up your target plus you don't know by how much you have elevated your sling shot above your target. I've never understood how you do that!
Hi john, great video very helpful. Could you tell me if there is much compensation need over distance? I normally shoot a rifle and obviously there is adjustments needed over distance, is this the same with a catapult?
No matter what ammo one shoots, it has trajectory for which compensation is required.
24 MINUTES?
DAMN YOU ARE LUCKY I NEED TO LEARN THIS
Love this ..wondering if you have anything on instinctive shooting. Guess it's pretty much muscle memmory.
Great video. How far would you recommend standing to tune in a catapult? You looked about 6 feet
Cheers
Simon
great vid, couple quistions though.... what distance are you using to get the reference point and do u close one eye when aiming or keep both open please
Great video mate, it really helped me dial in my group shots on target 🎯
