Ball bearing steel, is a very high quality steel, that not many people know, it makes the best steel for a hard use fixed blade knife. Its carbides cut really smooth and easy and it's my favorite steel to sharpen. It just likes to get sharp! It's also one of the toughest steels arround. I have tried almost all the high quality tool steels and super steels out there...but ballbearing steel, will always be my favorite. Whenever I see slingshot ammo, I always think of a hammer, smashing them into a blade stock!!!
@@greekveteran2715 damn you know alot lol. Imma check your channel to see if u got any vids. If not I'll just sub anyways lol. I have only just started to get into slingshot hunting and really need tips for getting good 🤣😅
@@charlieberry8056 I don't have any videos but I can help you on 3 different things, that I really know and have experience. For Slingshot hunting, you have to get a good slingshot, with flat rubbers (stay away from the round rubber ones, that are made from steel and plastic, they are not accurate at all, even the most expensive ones) So, get a flat rubber band slingshot, made of laminate wood or any hard wood! Then for ammo, I guess you know what you need. TH-cam video and practice, help a lot. The diameter and the weight of the ball, determens the distance of the target. I mean, I would choose a more heavy ball, to shot at close distance and so on. Also the diameter of the ball, is another factor that will determine, what I'm going to shot. If I want to shot a glass window, then I choose a larger than 1mm diameter ball, to add to the power, that can break a glass easier. Be careful, I've seen steel balls, reflected from windows, back to the shooter! Always shot in an angle and don't be close to the target, except it's a Rabbit, that came in front of you! I'm also into blowguns, which is my favorite weapon, but fixed blade knives, is that what I know more about. I have huge collection, but I'm more a user trying always to find the best out there, than I am a collector. I don't "Baby" my knives, they all have been used for long periods, before I make my opinion on them. If I can help you more, please feel free to ask for anything I could possibly help. Thank you for your kind words.
This is an excellent test and he's a brilliant shooter! Really really accurate. However, I think that it would be necessary to shoot many of the same balls before you can determine a pattern. For example, you shoot six or seven 8mm lead, then six or seven 8mm steel, and so on. That way you can see whether there's really a pattern or not. I think that's how statisticians study patterns. However, this may not have been the purpose of the video and it's an amazing experiment nonetheless. Thank you for it.

Great bud, moving to 10mm lead this winter. Went from 6mm which couldn't see the shot to 8mm. This test though for hunting, got to be 10 or 11mm lead shot. Thanks for sharing.
Excellent video. But IMO needs to be repeated because you can see that because the gel block is not restrained, so when the balls hit the gel block it gets 'jolted', back a bit. This is particularly noticeable with the larger balls. This effectively reduces the penetration so skews the results . Repeat test and have a back stop for the gel. I suspect the larger balls will then show a higher penetration. This will be apparent particularly for the steel balls which have less mass / surface area & hence higher CoD than the lead.
What you said is true. More gel block should also be used, one block for each bullet.Almost because a bullet fired after the previous one could go further due to the channel already dug previously.
Outstanding clear presentation of measurements and weights what delivers very good informations! I even like the british humour.... Thanks and greetings from germany!
I'd like to see the results of each the different ammo with each of the different bandsets. That way we could plot them out as a line graph and get predictions on weights and bands that weren' t even tested.
By changing the strength of the bands you have made this experiment useful. As a scientist I can tell you in any experiment you only change one variable. You change the two Key variables
Doing a proper comparison they would have used each type of round with each type of band. I understand what they were thinking, but the scientific method is the best way.

Right. He was wrong with some of his estimations. Why should he be right with the bands...
Drag increases at a square of the size of the object. For instance, twice the diameter would be four times more drag, such as through both air and gel... Weight increases with volume, so at a cube of the scale. For instance, twice the diameter would be eight times the weight... Slower speeds mean longer in the air, therefore more effect on gravity and wind. An excellent shot would be able to make allowances... Different materials spring faster than others. Whereas rubber bands spring faster than bows, different rubber bands spring differently too, and changing band size screws the testing... It looks like he should've been looking for the highest weight, for the smallest volume, as guides, and stopped when he found the deepest consistent hit, to find the best momentum... He really should have fired several, of each size, for a far better average...
Select the steel as large as possible under the maximum tension that you can stabilize. The bigger the steel is, the better the shot is, at the same initial speed, the target of the fire is 30 meters, and the speed at the distance of 10 mm to the distance of 30 meters is greater than 9 mm. Second, big steel is more destructive, and large-area internal injuries are more deadly than through injuries! Better not to wear, let the kinetic energy all be absorbed by the prey! More importantly, the accuracy of precision is more important than the power

(considered that 11mm steel was deeper than 12mm I figure 10 might even top that) Or would 10mm steel land behind 12mm steel?! It would actually be the most important ball that could have been shot after this lineup, because it would go either second or third place or second last, interesting?! Also 9.5 or 10 would be more cost efficient and might be the preferred ball for my first question to be the best choice to not only cover penetration but also long range and accuracy?!

I still wonder if the 9mm lead would have faired better with heavier bands to give it a little more oomph? I thought it too would get passed them 10mm with the size of it and weight.
With a shotgun, smaller lead gets more penetration because it takes fewer feathers into the meat. Size 4 takes too many feathers into the meat and doesn't go deep, whereas 7 .5 shot with the same powder goes all the way through. I am not sure how that would relate to a slingshot with a much bigger lead. Any thoughts?

Cool experiment....try one with fresh gels for every caliber. Cool piece to put somewhere in the wall

What about optimal size bands for different weight ammo?
Very fun professional way of doing this Thank you!
Couldn't you get lead poisoning from lead shot. Tell me what is the difference between a normal slingshot and a catapult?
Slingshot and catapults are the same. The lead balls are large and single so, even if they do penetrate, you can easily extract them before you cook. / Charlie
Oh okay now i understand
Cupped pouch with tiny bb's that way you can shoot birds out of the sky.
doesnt that hit your hand?
@@nikoskabbadias nah it would release after your hand
Tungsten. It's super heavy and hard.
EDIT : I forgot to mention it's expensive.
Good shot, friend. Search forever to see idols

What about 10mm steel?
Used old spent 9mm bullets dug out of a range ..out of a good Setup they cracked roofing flags!!
What would a 10mm steel be like compared?
Awesome Wayne in your opinion is 10 mm lead ok for all round slingshot hunting ammo?
Yes
top vedio pal really interesting to see weight and power in CLEAR As CLEAR loved that 👌👌
What is your frame wide lenth sir
I like my black widow. Daisy makes a fine product though. I just wish there was an American made product that wasn't terrible.
Good shootin wayne pal👍🏻,I wouldn’t be listen to the 7mm mr. Gucci that shoots paper and targets ! In a hunting scenario I’d defo be going your way about it.
another way, heat up marbles on the stove then dump them in cold water. They will crack but stay in one piece.aim infront and short of your target. The shrapenel will do the job
What if you lubricate your projectile with wax or silicone!
Just wondering!
Great shooting!!
Hola desde España, cuál es su calibre favorito para cazar y que material prefiere , plomo o acero.
Gran vídeo , gracias 👌
Cam silingshot very nice
Brilliant demonstration and it goes with what I learnt from Matt Redding, in that 10mm lead IS the best all around ammo for hunting in reality. Thanks for doing the experiments, Wayne.
Can you compare the ammo with something from the hardware store, im trying to se what happens if you shoot nuts of diferent mm glued togheter test it against balistic gelatin to make sure you can hunt with cheap ammo
?
gambainhacks you won’t get much cheaper than steel ballbearing catapult ammunition 👍
@@CattyShackHunter oh okey i haven't notice that because im from Italy and here is different. Thank for the answer. Love catapults
How can i write you on private? Because i would like to challenge you when i can get my hand on my catapult? And i also want to came to bassaleg When this ends.
A few years ago Jorge of the slingshot channel did destructive tests using various combinations of nuts washers and threaded rod in different combinations pretty eye opening what he accomplished
Good video always enjoy the catapult content. Very interesting experiement busts some myths
You sir are a master!
