I honestly like the life energy better here, for infinity energy has already all these things we know about it which if we talk about it our thoughts will be constrained. But if this is a new subset of infinite energy, that is life energy which is connected to mega stones. Then we can think about it unconstraintly and arrive at new truths which might be correct about this gimmick which is previously unknown. There is also the possibilty of Ultraworm Holes/Time shenanigans being involved in a possible "Past" Mewtwo showing up in the new game; It being Forced into the past/alternate timeline would allow it the option of gaining it's Mega Stones. This could also lead to a Paradox of sorts, in where it being present in the past would inspire others to begin thinking of ways of creating their own Mewtwo in the Future.

The story of Mewtwo's creation is that they were searching for Mew, but couldn't get a hold of it. The found a hair sample instead and used that to create a more powerful version of Mew, Mewtwo. All the failed experiments either died or turned into Ditto. There was no mutilated egg nor any "monstrosities" hinted to be created.
It sure is a fanfic-y idea, but I believe there's a MUCH simpler way to "canonize" otherwise unexplainable megas, like Mewtwo's or Diancie's. I talked about this previously but I have reasons to believe the energy that's driving mega evolution is a kind of chaos energy. So, maybe mega stones are just crystalized droplets containing an excess of this chaos energy and they were all blank in the beginning, only turning into actual mega stones after the chaos energy reacted with the respective pokemon, thus reaching a lower, more stable energy level - this would also be a semi-physical explanation as to why megastones cannot be used on other pokemon, because you'd have to elevate the mega stone's energy level so that it becomes unstable again. The idea that pokemon only receive a mega evolution once they come in contact with a blank source of this chaos energy is supported by the fact of mega Rayquaza's categorical existence (y'all don't really think the meteorite it ate was made up of Rayquazanite, right?)
Mewtwo is probably the last legendary I would have thought they would be able to expand upon the lore for, because its story is self contained - But what you proposed would definitely make sense and honestly add a TON to Mewtwo. Hey, I really hope you see this, in the original Kalos games there were a massive amount of Unova references... But one that seems insanely overlooked is the possible Original Dragon in Drasnas Chamber in X and Y! Look at that face, then look at the actual 3 dragons. It matches really well, and you can find statues of both Reshiram and Zekrom in the palace gardeb, but not one of Kyurem. The version used in Smash doesn't seem the same, it has a lot of changes to the wings, but the wings in the original games would work pretty well! The face... The face has a chin like a bearded dragon, the central spike of Kyurem, with an unfrozen set of horns and all... It looks too much like it to not have been at least an old concept art.
Come to think of it, at least in Aerodactyl’s case, it’s implied Mega Evolution sort of makes them de-evolve (in the Darwinian sense) partly and get closer to their old incarnations… which is interesting given we just had Scarlet and Violet. Would be interesting to get Paradox forms of some of the fossils to see what they actually looked like (since the ones we have are likely imperfect recreations due to the whole fossil thing). Also wonder if we’ll get a lore reason the Mega stones are specific to particular Pokémon, especially if they did come from the evolutionary stones that aren’t so specific. It is fun to speculate for Legends stuff since it opens up a lot the main games don’t and can be a bit darker and harsher (and more straight up about it)
I like to think that maybe Mewtwo stumbled into Area Zero and was transferred to the Past and got stuck there. He traveled to the closest region, Kalos, to seek answers, but got tangled with the War going on there. After the Kalos War, Mewtwo secluded himself in that cave to not mess up the timeline, until the present day.

My own head cannon linking onto yours is that the dna for the current mewtwo comes from the remains of a mew1.5 that left kalos after the events of legend z-a and spent its years travelling and finally resting where the researchers discovered the temple and thinking it was original remain of a mew but in reality was a mew1.5 remains which might explain the drastic difference between the 2 And the existing mega sones for mewtwo are actually mew1.5 mega stones

I just randomly had an epiphany. So with Roaring Moon, it’s sorta implied Megas take on an ancient form of the Pokémon (sorta like primal reversion lol), and Mew is the ancestor of all life. Well, looking at the two mega Mewtwo forms, one is much more humanoid and the other is much more Mew-like. Well, what if Mega Mewtwo is sort of representing the point where humans and Pokémon diverged.
A fun idea on how to do a MewThree would a play on how some people in the past can have a vision of the future to inspire what they do or create creating a paradox. Essentially the ancient people either in a time vision or a prophecy of the future of humans creating Mewtwo from Mew's genes leads them to their own way of scientifically or alchemically utilizing Mew's genes to create their own creature. They instinctively know it can't be called Mewtwo or perhaps there's some aspect of 3 Mew's in the creation where they dub it MewThree. Perhaps they attempted to recreate or revive Mew a couple times but failed so they combined the best 3 parts/aspects of the experiments leading to MewThree. The modern people would rediscover the remnant of MewThree or its research/information to realize that the modern research of Mewtwo led to MewThree in the past.
Remember a leak a lloonngg time awhile ago where they said about a "regional form for Mewtwo" for Legends Arceus? Makes you wonder for this New Legends now. If anything, whichever time Z-A takes place, I wonder if Time-space distortions return. That'd be the only logical way our current Mewtwo would return in the past. Heck, maybe Mewtwo gets the Ingo/Gen9 paradox treatment. Sent back in time & accidentally created his own Mega stones.

I had a few mewthree’s in my life
While I always believed Pokémon Z was coming, I’m doubting Mewthree or Mewtwo Z was coming.
Come to think of it, at least in Aerodactyl’s case, it’s implied Mega Evolution sort of makes them de-evolve (in the Darwinian sense) partly and get closer to their old incarnations… which is interesting given we just had Scarlet and Violet. Would be interesting to get Paradox forms of some of the fossils to see what they actually looked like (since the ones we have are likely imperfect recreations due to the whole fossil thing).
Also wonder if we’ll get a lore reason the Mega stones are specific to particular Pokémon, especially if they did come from the evolutionary stones that aren’t so specific.
It is fun to speculate for Legends stuff since it opens up a lot the main games don’t and can be a bit darker and harsher (and more straight up about it)
I like to think that maybe Mewtwo stumbled into Area Zero and was transferred to the Past and got stuck there. He traveled to the closest region, Kalos, to seek answers, but got tangled with the War going on there. After the Kalos War, Mewtwo secluded himself in that cave to not mess up the timeline, until the present day.

So when Ttar talked about the philosophy stone, that literally sounds like the Scarlet and Violet books. Think about it. Heath went to the depths of Area Zero, discovered the paradox Pokémon and wrote notes about em, and wrote notes about Terapagos, woke up and had no memories about em, then sometime later Heath died. And then prior to our playthrough of scarlet and violet like 10 years prior to it, Sada/Turo found the Scarlet and Violet books and started to build the time machine stuff to summon the paradox Pokémon all because Heath discovered all that stuff and Sada/Turo wants to continue the research that Heath started. While it hasn't been confirmed that Heath was originally from Kalos. But if it's true, we could get some sort of dlc for Legends ZA where we can go back to paldea to see Heath discover the paradox pokémon or something like that 🤔

I feel like to further hammer in the theme of humanity repeating itself, it would be cool if they classified "Mewthree" as a regional variant of Mewtwo, since we already know legendaries can have those and I feel like calling it "Mewtwo" would make more sense.

To be fair Mew did have an exclusive z-crystal. Given Alola has bit of Kalos in it, it's possible to believe that z-crystal could be a basis for Mewtwo's megastones...
Mewthree is Paradox Mewtwo/Mew from an alternate timeline (future or past)
My own head cannon linking onto yours is that the dna for the current mewtwo comes from the remains of a mew1.5 that left kalos after the events of legend z-a and spent its years travelling and finally resting where the researchers discovered the temple and thinking it was original remain of a mew but in reality was a mew1.5 remains which might explain the drastic difference between the 2
And the existing mega sones for mewtwo are actually mew1.5 mega stones
I always thought that Scream Tail's "tail" referenced mega mewtwo Y since it also has the psychic, imagine if the mewtwonite Y was a jigglypuff/wigglytuff stone before he claimed it

This is a nice theory and could be true but i remember a theory that the mega evolution is its own universe. So this mewtwo belongs to the mega universe thats why its different in the genesect movie. So the mewtwo we might meet in ZA will be this version
When ever ttar mentions alchemy and the philosophers stone I keep thinking what if it's a universal mega stone what can substitute for any missing stone on a pokemon as long as that Mon has a mega it would be similar to arceus's legend plate so it would be a reward at the end or something
I just randomly had an epiphany. So with Roaring Moon, it’s sorta implied Megas take on an ancient form of the Pokémon (sorta like primal reversion lol), and Mew is the ancestor of all life. Well, looking at the two mega Mewtwo forms, one is much more humanoid and the other is much more Mew-like. Well, what if Mega Mewtwo is sort of representing the point where humans and Pokémon diverged.
A fun idea on how to do a MewThree would a play on how some people in the past can have a vision of the future to inspire what they do or create creating a paradox. Essentially the ancient people either in a time vision or a prophecy of the future of humans creating Mewtwo from Mew's genes leads them to their own way of scientifically or alchemically utilizing Mew's genes to create their own creature. They instinctively know it can't be called Mewtwo or perhaps there's some aspect of 3 Mew's in the creation where they dub it MewThree. Perhaps they attempted to recreate or revive Mew a couple times but failed so they combined the best 3 parts/aspects of the experiments leading to MewThree. The modern people would rediscover the remnant of MewThree or its research/information to realize that the modern research of Mewtwo led to MewThree in the past.
Remember a leak a lloonngg time awhile ago where they said about a "regional form for Mewtwo" for Legends Arceus? Makes you wonder for this New Legends now. If anything, whichever time Z-A takes place, I wonder if Time-space distortions return. That'd be the only logical way our current Mewtwo would return in the past. Heck, maybe Mewtwo gets the Ingo/Gen9 paradox treatment. Sent back in time & accidentally created his own Mega stones.
