Oh for sure, and I often wondered why, but I KNOW why, it was because he exposed the piracy inside record companies, and the power they had over him and his music, and Prince did NOT like it, which is why he made an album where he has SLAVE written down his cheek. THAT there alone, was a death sentence, so many started to ignore him, and so it has been since he took up the fight with the giant music pirate record companies, when he made a song, it was NOT his rights to the number, to this day Purple Rain is still owned by the Company there stole his rights to his own numbers, WTF wants that shit??? I DO believe he was killed, for being so free, not letting ANY put him down, that he just made his own record company and his own success and this sends a wrong signal to people still slaves of their contract to their record companies. For the truth, also here, is we are slaves of big companies and Banks, and as soon you start to make money on your music they DRAG you into that fake part of the musical piracy. And YES, he was one of the world's best, but the elite did hold him down or tried their best, also remember we have no longer free Press, so they did not tell about this wonderful man. You all know he was found dead in an elevator in his home, right? Ok, look it up, for some years ago the Simpsons show Prince gets killed in an elevator in his home(WTF???), also YEARS before Trump was thinking of becoming President, the Simpsons make him president(MORE WTF). The point is they show us what will happen, and when it happen we will not be so frustrated or choked, in our subconsious we accept it when it happens, a great example is we now have been in Afganistan 18 YEARS, 18 YEARS OF WAR, and what do we do???. If people only knew the world they are living in, but sadly most do not!!! Fucking Dark Government and CIA/FBI and all other idiotic 3-letter-groups are destroying all normal and fuck with our minds. ALL THE WAY AROUND AND BACK!

Much of the hippy scene was a controlled opposition program by intelligence agencies operating out of a base in Laurel Canyon. The US and Israel planned 9/11 and the war on terror back in July of 1979. The Rothschilds funded both sides of WW2 and telling the truth about that war will literally get you sent to prison in Europe. The New York Times admitted that chemtrails are being "considered" by scientists to "fight global warming." Predictive programming (like in the Simpsons) is a real tactic that has been used for years. They did it with 9/11 a few times between '79 and '01. The central bankers quite literally control the world and increasingly have since the Napoleonic era. Government "Mind Control" programs are *very* real. False flag attacks to start wars are the rule, not the exception. This is admitted in detail in the Operation Northwoods files from the early 60s. The CIA infiltrated the press under Operation Mockingbird a looooong time ago. I could go on forever and ever. There are very real conspiracies everywhere and I've been kicked off of every social media platform at least once for making content about that stuff. This is my third TH-cam channel already. Lol I'm with ya.
Having said that, there's absolutely no evidence that Prince was murdered. There's a TON of evidence that he was a classic victim of opiate addiction, though - and I know just as much about that as I do conspiracies. My family and circle of friends were utterly destroyed by it and I had my own struggle with painkillers at one point. I saw it up close and personal for a decade. Believe me, Prince showed all the classic signs. Because of my family background and career, I've also been around and in the music industry my whole life. (And I'm actually friends with Prince's old lighting director, Pete from the Paisley Park club) The industry is pure fucking EVIL, but they wouldn't kill Prince decades after he exposed them. Makes zero sense. ..and the government is actually HAPPY to have freaky dudes like Prince talking about the illuminati and chemtrails because it helps them reinforce the narrative that "only crazies talk about that stuff". They also use "controlled opposition" like Alex Jones for this purpose. Prince almost certainly wasn't murdered, dude. He died of a tragic fentanyl OD like thousands of other people have lately. Everything about his death was a *classic* case of opiate addiction and OD death. Absolutely textbook. ..and if there's one thing I've learned in all my years of research, it's that when "they" take someone out, they ALWAYS leave a trail of evidence behind. They're surprisingly sloppy because most people aren't going to look into the issue anyway. Look what they got away with in Vegas!! Insane.
The biggest piece of "evidence" is the Simpsons thing. But that's circumstantial at best and could just as easily be a coincidence/synchronicity. If he were murdered, there would be some actual evidence. Guaranteed. ..and if I saw that evidence, I'd change my mind immediately. But we've gotta be really careful about saying stuff like: Every celebrity who dies was murdered, all mass shootings use crisis actors, and all pop stars are "MK Ultra slaves". If we just stick to the things that can be proven, a lot more people would listen to us. ..and there's soooooo much that can be proven, because a lot of it has been downright admitted and bragged about by world leaders. ...and a lot of it was planned long before it actually happened. Like the War on Terror(TM) and Saddam's WMDs being planned back in '79. The rest is proven by science. ..like the new U of A Fairbanks study that proves WTC Building 7 was absolutely a controlled demolition.
Trust me, my friend, if you want to wake people up, you've got to do years of SERIOUS research to separate the conspiracy theories from the conspiracy facts - and then just stick to the facts. Even then, it's an uphill battle. Just yesterday, I showed someone the Fairbanks study about building 7 and they basically refused to even look at it.

He was praised as a songwriter but forgotten as a guitarist. The most underrated guitarist of the past 30+ years. He was the most well-rounded musician we've seen in decades. There will be many copies but only one original.
I never realised just how good he was until I saw him playing with Tom Petty on a tribute to George Harrison playing lead to "While my guitar gently weeps".

At 63 years old I realize I've been playing guitar for 48 of those years. So it warms my heart to see and hear a young man who has so clearly dedicated himself to the instrument. Given that life moves at the speed of a 4th chorus of a Steve Vai solo, it's encouraging to know young people are committed to seeing a tradition endure.

I've seen him play lots of times, heard him way more and these are not his greatest techniques by a long shot (but very interesting video). I once went to an aftershow of his with a huge Hendrix fan (which I am too) and he was blown away. I had to struggle to keep him in the Hendrix fold afterwards.

His stance against Unfair practices in the Industry he battled for all musicians. Not just himself. And it along with other artists and technological advances has begun to topple the mendacious music industry more than ever before. He has knocked down walls for fair work in the music business that will finally bring justice for all musicians.
Prince is actually so musically skilled that he can’t be pigeonholed in just one way. His Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame performances in honor of the late George Harrison of “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” and the unforgettable NFL Halftime show in the Rain will never be forgotten. The loss of Prince is yet to be grasped but thankfully his music lives on through the likes of The Art-of-Guitar. Prince never cared about being greater than other musicians. He just cared about making real music great.

I read that Billy Gibbons bumped into Prince once and the two had a conversation about some of their favorite techniques. Billy said he'd be trying to learn the opening lick of Doves ever since he heard it, and could not quite get it right. I think he'd be impressed by your stab at it. Well done.

Those circular licks are great for us non-shredders to throw some surprises in solos. I love to use them in quick bursts…like a solo with ADD 🤷♂️
Mike, like you, Purple Rain had me interested in Prince as an artist, but it was the Syracuse live concert (March 30th 1985), that made me realize that this little man from Minneapolis was an actual guitar hero if not a God... the title song solo is still my favorite solo ever... it was not a display of "look what I can do", like I have seen from many great players, but it felt like every note just belonged there... you felt the passion of the lyrics in that guitar... brought tears to my eyes...

And yeah, that PR solo still brings tears to my eyes. The super long intro was hilarious too, but that opening solo, where it gets all spanishy for a second....very emotive...and then he switches to the white guitar and hits that chord...man, shivers! Epic shit! Nice to see someone who remembers that.
To both comments.. You guys hit the nail on the head. The entire song from beginning to end is & should be all entertainers standard for how you play. The only problem is the bar was set too high. The absolute beauty of that composition is haunting & so human. It cuts to the core of the human heart if you just listen.. Good for you guys to have picked up on it so early on. How about the solo in "Computer Blue" at this same concert in Syracuse? "Computer Blue" is one of the most 'unknown' songs of Prince that is actually just amazing!

I actively seek to have access to every possible version of Prince playing Purple Rain. Because every version is both signature and spontaneous and utter mastery of human emotion through his guitar.
Thanks for giving us 16 more reasons why we should appreciate (and downright LOVE) the musical genius and boundless creativity of Prince. To put this into perspective, try to imagine what it must have been like for Prince during his early years learning and mastering many of these techniques....no TH-cam tutorials, just records, tremendous dedication, perseverance, and one helluva an amazing ear! Ok when you spoke about the delay, it explains why one can hear the continuation of a note although his hands left the guitar. I am not a guitarist but I found it interesting to learn.

I have absolutely no idea what is going on there, plus that amazing effect he would often do (also at the end of the Let's Go Crazy outro solo) where it sounds like his Flanger is exploding and his delay is going into infinite loop.

to add to what lolb22 said. Yes, you may know that part is called "father's song" and makes up the base for the Computer Blue solo. There are a few audio recordings of Prince playing it live on piano on youtube. Also you may recall in the movie Purple Rain, Prince comes home to find his mother beaten on the curb and his father in the basement playing a song on the piano. It's that song. And according to the ever reliable wikipedia (joke) his father John Nelson is credited by ASCAP as a co-writer of Father's song. But i love that lick and I could so feel that you were talking about that guitar lick before you even started playing. Great vid. Learned a ton.

I was goofing around with my pedals one day when I had my Metal Zone and flanger pedals on. I was hitting harmonics when I hit the high E string at the 12th fret and it was the exact sound from the very end of Computer Blue, that high pitched guitar sound.

I'd have to agree... this is definitely one of the best Prince guitar rundowns I have ever seen. I'm also a HUGE Prince fan. He has influenced my guitar playing and the reason I even started playing. I have to ask... do you have any tutorials showing how to play his songs. I would love to a tutorial that shows how to play his songs more accurately.
I play guitar today still, and I was a teen in '84 and 18 in 1985 and when I saw him play with such passion I wanted to play.

That riff you played that you said it sounded like Prince composed it on a keyboard is accurate. That riff was composed by his father (jazz musician John Nelson) on piano. Prince included that riff on the song COMPUTER BLUE. That's why if you read the songwriting credits for that song, it'll say "Composed by Prince, Wendy Melvoin, Lisa Coleman, and John L Nelson".

I'm really impressed. You have a great teaching style! Really clear, smart, but also great attitude about the different ways to apply different feels to the playing. I was just watching a video with Ace Frehley talk about how he likes his Les Paul because he likes the way he can rest his hand on it to put his hands on the strings, like you were talking about with the dirty and vibrato picking verses the clean eddie style picking. All around awesome video!
@ 22:10 you talk about keyboard lines demonstrating the solo from "computer blue". you're right - this was a keyboard line. the song is called "father's song" and you can hear it in the movie when prince finds his mother on the sidewalk and goes into the house to confront his dad. his father is playing this melody on the piano. later, prince echoes the line onstage -- brilliant subtlety there. plus, all around beautiful/haunting melody. i play this on guitar all the time.

FYI because you didn't seem 100% sure: you're correct that the solo from "Computer Blue" was based on a piano composition. The original piece was written by Prince's father, and it appears briefly in a tense scene in Purple Rain.

ecykixx just want to interject - a lot of folks definitely can sing. In a lot of pop, autotune is used as a vocal effect. In rock, the guitar is the lead and distortion is the effect of choice. In pop, the vocal is the lead and autotune is the effect of choice .
@@zachary4670 That's non-sequitur. Autotune isn't just an effect, it's used to bring something into tune. When people refer to the ability to sing, they mean to sing in tune. Can't sing in tune = can't sing.

Pizzaismykryptonite I mean Cher was one of the firsts to use it. Surely you agree that Cher can sing. Just because something can be used to fix vocals doesn’t mean it’s always used that way when it is used. I’m not a fan of its use myself and curse the day Cher used it.
