The Colonel never stops being the most AWESOME build ever. and it still holds the top spot as the best build on You Tube no doubt. before you lower the gearing. don't forget to get a top speed run documented. I bet it will be right near a hundred miles an hour. or possibly even over a hundred miles an hour. I'm sure there's a way to build or machine some much stronger hubs. after all the Colonel shouldn't be left out of the fun just because there's snow on the ground. YEAH TOTALLY AWESOME !!!

This machine, is the best of the best on you tube, in all. Those belts have a lot of torque on them, no wonder the spindle breaks. Try Subaru parts on the front, and it will be fine. Best regards from Norway
That thing is SICK with the tracks! Would love to see it in Deep snow where the torque on the front wouldn't be as rough. Could make the ultimate search and rescue toy!
G2 Can-Am Outlander hubs are what you guys should use. Can-Ams come with a high-output 1000cc V-Twin and we, at the dealer I work for, put tracks on them every single year without issues.
Tracks make any Vehicle 100 times as cool. :D. Frigging awesome. Gogo colonel senders! Part of me thinks you should have done a half-track, but full track just looks so sweet! I SO WANT a set for my car...
Hey guys I've been thinking about the Colonel's gearing problem and it seems to me the best solution would be to put a small chain and sprocket set from the engines output shaft. You may have to rearrange some stuff and make some bearing mounts. But I think it's right up your alley as opposed to trying to regear the diffs 👍. Plus it would be easily adjustable.
The biggest and baddest MFing power wheels monster on the internet. You are one hell of an engineer man. It’s no joke to build such a high HP in such a small package.
Hey guys! Depending on what aluminum alloy those knuckles are made out of you may need to age them (let them rest unloaded) before they get back up to full strength after welding. 6xxx series alloys need 48 hours to get to functional levels and around 3 weeks before it's at its full strength. 7xxx series alloys need 3 months before you stress it and takes 6 months to get back up to it's full strength. There are others that may need aging but those are the two most common that I know off the top of my head. If you start hammering them with load before they have time to age it results in stress cracks almost immediately and then eventually another failure. That is what I think happened here though I could be completely wrong.
You done broke it good! Love your videos, love Idaho, love your work - from an Aussie fan of your channel that lives up in beautiful British Columbia. Keep the videos coming. You blokes have way too much fun.
I saw the sneak peek in your last video and couldn’t wait to see it fly off the top of a hill. Unfortunately in my opinion with the size, weight and leverage the front tracks cause, rebuilding what broke in a manner that it’s now unbreakable like perhaps out of steel, I think would simply cause the front tracks to find the next weakest link and break that! I’m down for watching the rides and repairs if your up for doing them! My suggestion would be like a lot of others I read, put it in 2 WD and skis on the front and take it in the deep stuff :-) Great video with great music!!
It looks like your running a fair amount of toe in which should put enormous strain on the hubs considering the lead the tracks has. New hubs in steel and adjusing the tracks straight would be the medicine of choice if the project was mine. Keep up with all the cool creative builds and what-if attitude!
Tracks put massive amounts of stress on the running gear! I know because my RC TRX4 recently got the Traxxas Traxxs, along with a 12v servo, titanium steering horn and titanium portal axal housings.
Fabricated and machined steel might be worth a thought, something that makes the part larger(clearance allowing..) so that the load would be spread out over a larger area(plate-steel and box-section..)
Thats so friggen badass once u fix it (upgrade the steering ) I can't wait to see it in deep snow and climb so steep hills she is a monster bro love it so much with the tracks
That's such an awesome machine !! Hooks up like a mother with the tracks too !! I know the toe looked in but since the load is carried off the upper A arm I'm wondering if it bottomed out and collapsed the hub.. I'm sure glad you enjoy breaking and fixing your toys so much it makes for a great show , plus I can tell you love your creations (who wouldn't)...
The thought just popped into my head, you guys definitely need to build something crazy like the Ripsaw from H&H. It's a-whole-nother level from your typical builds but I have faith. lol
Yeah we get big old Polaris hubs on there with some beef on them or just make some thing yourself with a big giant home joint in there and reinforce the heck out of it. But that’s pretty awesome, the way that thing just cruised right up those rocks covered with snow was insane. Lol. I think you guys need to just start a whole new project and make a mini Ripsaw Tank.
That was awesome! I Wish there was a way the coil overs could be mounted to the lca, I believe that would reduce some stress on the knuckle. I know you guys will figure a way to beef up Colonel Senders!
Larger tires on the front and tracks on the rear might work. I say larger tires because you said it's "geared lower" with the tracks on. Or turn the front tracks around maybe. With that much torque and the amount of tread farther out from the steering pivot point, you may need automotive grade steering and suspension parts.
