Paul here, what are you and Mary doing tonight ?.....(Someone not caring about their frequency useage) There is a good reason why we must not have a casual approach to just using any frequency we so choose. Many handhelds will receive the air band and are modified for other reasons even though the modulation techniques are different (AM vs. FM) Ya gotta be careful and cautious out there. Enjoy your radios.
Unfortunately, your message will be lost on the vast majority of his viewers, because they tend to be a selfish lot and unable to think beyond their own personal space bubble. They have no concept of the need to regulate the airwaves to maintain a level of order to allow useful communication, but then get annoyed when someone tramples their broadcasts the way they trample “some people’s” broadcasts.
Hide your antenna if you run over 2KW The only time FCC came was when I was 23 and was running 4 x2879 into 16 2879 into 64 2879’s The beam was low, 2 ft off the ground, 4 element. No entry without warrant , no backyard entry. Plus I was a senior in ROTC and loved German shepherds as a combat vet I was into tactical shit and German shepherds are on the list. I’m just a C Suite exec now, I enjoy breaking rules by decryption, not transmission.
I want to know and having a hard time finding. Can I use a ham radio for emergencies? I’m about to go through hurricane Milton this week and 2 years ago all cellphone services were down and I had no other way to get ahold of anyone but my neighbor gave me a handheld baofeng uv 5rtp walkie talkie. I don’t have a license yet took the test 2 times and failed it as it was alot harder than I thought. But my main question is can I use it during natural disasters like hurricanes that take out regular communications like cell phone towers and landlines…
Took the han radio test years ago but I can’t remember everything I read I the textbook and I don’t have the book anymore since I was flooded out by hurricane ian.
I have a lot of fun talking to people with my ham radio to people with 2 pac radios or gmrs radios or to the warehouse worker in town using what i can only imagine is a lmr radio. I dont see what the issue is. The radio works fine. Cant wait to get my antenna up.
Use LPI signals (ideally with encryption) at the minimum wattage required. Such as freq hoppers or DSSS. Transmit a freq hopper in pager frequencies because it makes it harder for analysis tools to ID it, freq hops look like pager bursts. Transmit DSSS on unused bands, it should be undetectable unless an autocorrelation function is applied, which is what DSSS receivers have
I started using a CB back when a license was required and I was a minor so one of my parents had to be the licensed station head if that gives you any idea how old I am. Anyway my question or maybe statement is I seem to remember the FCC coming out and saying no license was needed to operate a marine radio if in the interior of the US and at least or more miles from the coastal waters? Am I correct or way off? Sorry don't got your e mail dress so hopefully you read this.
Where I live next to the Texas coast near Corpus Christi, we used to have three FCC listening station in this area. Due to government cuts we have none now, I would say you shouldn’t have a problem with point-to-point VHFUHF. HS frequencies might be a different deal
MURS is decent for outdoor activities that need a bit more range than FRS or GMRS as the lower frequency can travel through more obstacles. Contrary to popular belief, however, CB is not dead and might just be your best bet if you want to play around with out-of-band middle-fingering of rules. If you have an actual interest in radio as a hobby, CB is also a good place to start for that as you have plenty of options to play with to prepare you for licensed radio stuff. The CB channels are now opened up to FM use, so you can play around with FM or AM or upper/lower sideband, and you might even be able to mod your radio for out-of-band frequencies. AM or sideband use on a CB is about as close as you can get to HAM legally without a license and it's especially fun at times of high solar activity like we are currently in as at certain times you can hear or chat with people well over the horizon. TL;dr is that if you just want to chat with a local friend, go for MURS or CB but if you have a serious interest in radio as a hobby, start with CB or GMRS and learn all you can. If you ever get a license for HAM or GMRS, make sure to use a PO Box that has a street address instead of your home address, in another town over if possible.
If you want a private conversation on a frequency and you don't care you can get a few more options than listed. All are rule breakers except one. You can build your own radio at much higher freq. than anyone else uses in the higher Gig like 25. Most that high are not used but you would have to point the antenna directly at the person you wish to converse. I have had a few CB radios that have 'extra' frequencies, lower and higher and those are fairly empty for the most part. If you look at the Ham bands there is a few that are in-between the allotted to Hams and no one else, so some of those are a rule breaker option.
Randy, Randy, Randy.... **SHM @ This** Love the video and agree with a lot with what you say. The issue with the FCC is not their policy control or who gets to transit on what frequency/channel but if such transmissions interefere with something else like Public TV/Radio, access by others to transmit on those channels, splashes on ot other channels, and so on. As for GRMS/FRS, as I read and uderstand the regs, handhelds are limited to 4 watts and do not neccessarily need the GRMS license though it is recommended if you want to take it further (above 5 watts and up to 50 watts with a base sttion); and FRS is limited to 2 watts. So running a Baofeng on low power (about 1.5 wats) on FRS/GRMS channels should be fine as that will not be bothering anyone. And even on 5 watts is fine as far as I see. MURS... Uh Boy... they are fine but are limited to 2 watts. MURS is pretty much empty and you can get away with a lot on 2 watts. But the problem for me was having several idiots on illegally modded Ham rigs blasting 45 to 250 watts on MURS and causing problems for everyone else. They even made threats of coming over "To teach (some indivudls) a lesson for messing with THEIR Channel.". Call me a snitch, but I called the FCC on them. Though they given a slap on the wrist and a waving finger of shame to their faces, at least they are no longer on MURS. CB...? Its still the Wild Wild West out here in NYC and if you can get a good skip, as far south as Alabama and Mississippip. But again, there are idiots out there adding power linears to their radios and running 1000 watts (I shit you not Randy!) out of a little Cobra 19+ The issue here is not to bring attentin to one's self. Enjoy the hobby. Meet strange people during an Eye-Ball Ritual. Share a beer and talk radio tech or anything else that fancies you. Radio is for fun, for communications, and for emergencies when needed. I'm a licensed HAM and GMRS'er but on the air I do not state that I am nor do I make trouble for somebody else (except for those fools on MURS pushing 1/4 kilowwatt of power....). I do not draw attention to myself by putting on the power of the Ham Roaster Linear 10,000. I just listen to the airwaves and put in my 2cents from what I know. Nothing more. And I welcome any schmoe who can rub two diodes together against an antenna coil to transmit onto the frequency as long as they are repectful to everyone as they are respectful to him. So for your new friend - as long as he stays below maxium power level of a Baofeng on what frequencies he wants to get on, sure its fine by me. Give him a couple of Baofengs to him and his friends already programmed with GMRS and MURS, and they will will have fun for years. But beware. In research of the frequencies and channels, MURs 4 and 5 and I believe GMRS Repeater 21 and 22(?) are also shared with the "KMart" Color Dot Security Frequencies. Since there is no KMart 50 miles from NYC, it does not matter to us though other services does use them (A construction firm uses Brown and Yellow Dot here in NYC as I heard them). But there may be a KMart nearby to others. So check the channels you want to be on and have fun with it.
Come on, the guy has the attention span of a flea; do you seriously think he read all of that? I would wager that he didn’t even read the first sentence.😂

Is there any hand held radios that could be capable of 20 mile range in a city? From my limited knowledge of radio I want to say it’s not without hitting a repeater, but again I don’t know much about radios.

If we are inland and no chance of being heard on the US Marine channels roughly 155.500000 to 161.975000 (SEA/DSC/AIS 1 through 87) are you going to draw attention? Some of the language in the FCC part 95 about these channels is not clear. what I take from it is as long as you are not interfering or creating an issue names Florida and Texas if i remember, then you are ok to use them. Thanks for the time and love the content!

Im so glad Zac got his question kinda answered.
You have the best printed tee-shirts!!! And after almost 2 years, I just noticed your link to buy them. Yup, I'm a little slow when it comes to S**t like that..
That background needs to be a T-shirt

In defense of that agency that assigns frequencies and tries to keep the air waves spurious free. Can you imagine over hearing this (cause we did); "United Flight 1260, SOCAL, (the en-route air traffic control center on 136.25 mHz) ..."Traffic, your altitude, six miles-a 737 - for traffic avoidance turn now to heading.....(Interruption)....'Hello Frank.. Paul here, what are you and Mary doing tonight ?.....(Someone not caring about their frequency useage)
There is a good reason why we must not have a casual approach to just using any frequency we so choose. Many handhelds will receive the air band and are modified for other reasons even though the modulation techniques are different (AM vs. FM)
Ya gotta be careful and cautious out there.
Bootlicking rat
MURS is my favorite. We use it on the farm. I think we are the only people that ever used it.
Walmart uses Murs
Hide your antenna if you run over 2KW
The only time FCC came was when I was 23 and was running 4 x2879 into 16 2879 into 64 2879’s
The beam was low, 2 ft off the ground, 4 element.
No entry without warrant , no backyard entry. Plus I was a senior in ROTC and loved German shepherds as a combat vet I was into tactical shit and German shepherds are on the list.
I’m just a C Suite exec now, I enjoy breaking rules by decryption, not transmission.
Good video, dealing with the fed airwave Gobment service! ...
I just joined, what is the best video on explaining the baofeng uv5 radio.
I like the channel, thanks
I love the antenna twirling. I have a GMRS and ham general license. I’ll play by gmrs rules but I’ll never own a gmrs radio.
Your comtent has been informative and entertaining. On another note, has anyone noticed that Randy never blinks
I was able to obtain a FCC certified UV-5R radio, it works well!!
“But irregardless” 😂🤣🤣🙈
Damn it, even autocorrect gave me a hard time letting that one move forward lmao. I love these videos 😂🤣🤣🤣🍻🍻🍻
Interesting info.
Thank you kind sir!
Good video as always @NotaRubicon Productions
Use LPI signals (ideally with encryption) at the minimum wattage required. Such as freq hoppers or DSSS. Transmit a freq hopper in pager frequencies because it makes it harder for analysis tools to ID it, freq hops look like pager bursts. Transmit DSSS on unused bands, it should be undetectable unless an autocorrelation function is applied, which is what DSSS receivers have
Geezus... You are really in the wrong place.
You can also use SSB, AM or heck any digital modes
love all the radios in the background
I love this guy.
Wow from 3 to none . No money because we gave it to Urkraine
The empire is collapsing
Thanks!
Thank YOU!
JUST FYI... I BELIEVE in the context of radio systems, specifically 2-way radios the acronym "VFO" stands for "Variable Frequency Ocillator".
Yup, that's a brain tickler. Good stuff! Thanks.
But again, there are idiots out there adding power linears to their radios and running 1000 watts (I shit you not Randy!) out of a little Cobra 19+
The issue here is not to bring attentin to one's self.
On a frequency 444.445 will you get into trouble transmitting if you have a gmrs license
Since you do answer semi-stupid questions, I'll ask mine; where do you go to buy those cool patches? I was directed to your last video, have seen them all and can't find the link. Love your videos, keep 'em coming!

Is there any hand held radios that could be capable of 20 mile range in a city? From my limited knowledge of radio I want to say it’s not without hitting a repeater, but again I don’t know much about radios.
20 miles in the city is a stretch for any hand-held radio, unless one of you is on a large hill/mountain.
@@TheNotaRubicon thank you for your response. Is there any hand held that might reach 8-10 miles in an urban environment? I figured if my mom can’t reach me maybe she can reach a relative a town over. (not much elevation if any at all and just 2 story tall house in the way)
If we are inland and no chance of being heard on the US Marine channels roughly 155.500000 to 161.975000 (SEA/DSC/AIS 1 through 87) are you going to draw attention? Some of the language in the FCC part 95 about these channels is not clear. what I take from it is as long as you are not interfering or creating an issue names Florida and Texas if i remember, then you are ok to use them. Thanks for the time and love the content!
What if I have a mrsgrsfrnbgl radio but no license? Or what if I have a kranjiensosn radio but only a deruv5r license? Legal, right?
Also 900mhz is available, limited use due to few radio options (LMR & Retivis mostly)
I like The picture in the background. I worked on the movie tread.
From the FCC website: The FRS is authorized 22 channels in the 462 MHz and 467 MHz range, all of which are shared with General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) which requires an individual license for use.
Ok.. Thanks for answering the question that nobody asked?
