A beautiful firearm! I think the repairs to the stock only add to the beauty, they add authenticity.

Thank you, and it sure adds to the history on the specific firearm.

Excellent video, grate fusil I broke mine at the last barrel pin it split while taking pin out had to glue it back. Your fix looks terrific.

Very nice gun. It is a real shame about the breakage, but the repairs add some degree of authenticity. It is humorous that the barrel sticks out way past the safety shield at the range.

It is not shortened in any way. The stock is in its originalt length. There is room for short bajonett at the end of the barrel or behind the trapdoor on the buttplate. I just newer botheted to get the short bajonett. Thanks for watching.

It only has a 42 inch barrel. My rifle has a 46 inch.

@@snapshotscorner5542 Compared to modern weapons, I think that a 42 inch is still pretty long. I would suppose that long barrels increase accuracy, but I would not want to carry one all day in the woods.

@@The-Armed-Pacifist a longer barrel in a black powder smooth-bore or rifle, makes better effekt of the powder and gives you better velocity. A modern shot gun or rifle do not need as long a barrel to obtain good velocity. A modern projektile has in addition a better balistic..! I could make video with the topic of shorter vs. Longer barrel in a smooth bore. I have a chronograph that would come in to good use for a video like that. You did put me on to something here..! Thanks for your continious comments and suport. It makes a difference!!!

Hello again, thanks for a really good video, very impressive shooting, I would like to have seen a bit more information and video of you loading. I shoot an Indian made Brown Bess Repro with 39 inch barrel. It is over 40 years old, I usually use 80 grains of coarse 1F or Medium 2F Black Powder In a cartridge. I have also tried patching with pillow ticking but that didn't seem to work as well. It came with a non historic rear sight that I removed but I might put it back on just while I get a better POA sorted out. Cheers Chris

Thanks for watching and your comment. I use 80 grains ffg a 662 tb with a .020 lubed patch. My friend the raining MLAIC world champion original muskett usrs 90 grain ffg in his brown bess. Not sure on his rb / patch combo. I could find out! I lnow he is rolling hes round balls berween ..40 sandpaper, in order to make dents in the surface of the ball. I will give him a call to make sure. Hope that might help you out some?

@@snapshotscorner5542 Hi, I forgot to ask what range you were shooting at ? I have had several people mention to me about roughing up the surface of the lead balls. I have not yet tried that but feedback seems to be about 50/50 if it makes any difference. Like anything what works for one may not work for all so I will have to give it a try sometime. My Brown Bess is not an historic calibre, although its Proof marks say 0.74" a 0.715" ball is too large ??? . I shoot a 0.675" ball, any information you can get from your friend would be very welcome, you don't get to be a World Champion without knowing what you are doing !!!

@@chrisbrown4002 Distance is 50 meters! with only a front sight you need to anchor your butt and do the same every shot. I kind of semi look at a portion of the barrel, the rest is feel and trigger control. The denting has a good effect for some and not for others. I roll my balls between two steel plates in order to even out the spruce and make the balls round as possible. I do not dent the balls. What great fun it is to experiment and get a smooth-bore to shoot to your satisfaction. Rule of thumb is to change only one variable at the time! I will probably make another video with a few hints and looking at some accouterments for the smooth-bores.

@@snapshotscorner5542 Thanks, I was fairly sure it was 50 metres, extra challenge to get a smooth-bore to shoot well. It needs time to perfect your load, firing position & POA. Definitely only change one variable at a time or you can drive yourself crazy :) I'm looking forward to your next video especially if its Black Powder muzzle loading or revolver :)

@@snapshotscorner5542 I don't know if you have seen this video ? th-cam.com/video/1zgN0gTA_-I/w-d-xo.html Its an accuracy test on a Charleville musket using paper cartridges from 25 to 150 metres. Apart from the impressive shooting it was this video that had me load cartridges in my Brown Bess ball end first.
