      You don't pay that much to the monarchy. The British monarchy's Sovereign Grant cost the UK taxpayer £1.29 per person in the 2022-2023 financial year. This was made up of a core grant of 77 pence per person for official duties. With the tourism they bring in, it is good money from the taxpayers.

    I know I’ve commented on this before but it’s worth repeating that there’s no justification, especially in times of financial hardship for an outdated, archaic institution like a monarchy to hold enormous wealth and privilege while ordinary people struggle to exist. The argument that the royals are a tourist attraction bringing in money to the treasury is nonsense, particularly when they take far more out than they contribute. The land, properties, art treasures and tax exemptions they enjoy are the result of inheritance from a feudal system controlled by robber barons and monarchs who plundered, murdered and raped their way into history.

      I think you raise a great point. People will say it is a diplomatic position and that’s why is still there. But your statement at the end, pretty much had the sentiment of most countries feel. Some of the atrocities that were caused during their reign is unforgivable ( Famine in Ireland & Kenya, The support of the government in Zaire who were incompetent and used the military for any one who question them, the colonisation of Ghana, the troubles). Of course these are not things you can solely blame on the royal family but most where done “ for King and country”

      @@shanemcgaley8322 the British Monarchs doing those times were constitutional monarchs who were figureheads and so did US and France they also supported Zaire as well so don't claim the moral high ground when two democratic republics also supported a dictatorship. Monarchy isn't perfect no system is but we to see the good and the bad and not just the bad it's far more complex than that.

    • @ProfessorDreamer
      @ProfessorDreamer 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It's clear that you seeing things in a black and white view on monarchy and in a far more simplistic manner than you should as not everything about monarch's is black and white as there are good monarchs and bad monarchs it isn't all monarchs are horrible not to mention they have massive responsibilities and duties to uphold including be careful with how much they spend. Also what about nations that are republics that aren't democratic are they better than the so called horrible monarchies like Hungary, Belarus, Russia, China, North Korea, Iran, Venezuela, Rwanda, Burundi and formerly Syria they aren't monarchies and yet their leaders are pressing their people.
      Even if you make this case about monarchy being horrible Cambodia remember Cambodia's king is a figurehead who has no power and it's the prime minister whose abusing his power and being a tyrant not the king ( with Wikipedia pointing out his abuse of power and corruption and how he's criticized for by various organizations).

    Nothing secret! The Duchy of Lancaster is controlled by The Duchy Council. The accounts are tabled before Parliament annually. Apparently, everyone missed the declaration at the Privy Council regarding Charles' income stream change now that he is King. The Cornwall Duchy is also not hiding anything; Charles, as Prince of Wales, built that enterprise up to a major business enterprise. The eldest son of the reigning British monarch obtains possession of the duchy and the title of Duke of Cornwall at birth or when his parent succeeds to the throne, but may not sell assets for personal benefit and has limited rights and income while a minor.
