Based on the grocery prices you were quoting, I had every confidence you would succeed with a $50 budget. With the exchange rate, the Canadian to US exchange would be spending $37.50 USD. Everything looks delicious and nutritious. There are so many beautiful colors.

Shalom, Shalom Sara! I’ve only recently become a subscriber to your channel, but I have taken opportunities to share my excitement about it with some of my family. According to 23 and Me I’m about 3% Ashkenazi but I proudly claim every drop of my Jewish bloodline, lol ( just thought I’d throw that in)! I’m still learning how to navigate your channel and have found such precious nuggets of History through your videos of Queen Vashti etc. I absolutely LOVE when you share your prayers over the food as you’re preparing it and the reason behind the prayer. Bottom line I love the intimacy of your relationship with G_d. I want to know and learn more, please. Maybe you can think about expanding your channel and teaching more in-depth on traditions feasts, fasts, prayers etc… I read about the miscarriages you’ve had to journey through. I’m sorry that you and your family have had to walk through such profound loss. I weep with you. But of this I’m convinced… all of your children have been blessed to feel the love and joy you felt/feel for them with every beat of your heart. You are a gift from G_d to your family and those who are blessed to know you! I apologize for using this forum to share such personal thoughts but it was all I had available for me to speak what was on my heart to share with you. Shabbat Shalom
Physical Examination of the cucumber made me laugh out loud. And palpating the Lagos. What a fun and helpful video with your tips. The mushroom storage idea in the paper bag was one I never heard of , , , the celery stored in foil is great too and storage of shallots, garlic and potatoes in the egg crates. Awesome. Oh thanks for those tips. Love, Sally 11-23-22

8:58 wow those carrots! never seen such pretty carrots before lol. I've never even heard of cow peas! But I googled them and they're black-eyed peas - I have never heard them called cow peas (cowpeas?) before. Which then makes me wonder why they're called peas when they're beans and not peas at all, ha. (I love Shabbat prep on a budget!)
Wow, this was great - again! I really appreciate all the tips about vegetable storage - how did I reach my advanced age without knowing these things?! I look forward to making several of your delicious salads. Wishing you and your family a Shabbat Shalom.
Thank you so much my sweet friend! Please let me know if you have any questions! I would love to help! Shabbat shalom and thank you again for being so AMAZING!
I love Shabbat on a budget! I am learning so much about storing vegetables from you! My mother has a cookbook just like yours and I am going to finally make one!
Cow peas are what most Southerners call "field peas" or just plain ol' peas. You wash and pick over them and soak them and rinse before cooking like any dried beans or chickpeas and they cook great in the crockpot or slow cooked on the stove like chollent with seasoning and some sort of smoked or salted meat or meaty bones like necks or knuckle or hock. Also work good in pressure cooker or Instapot. Often in winter, a pot of peas and a pone of cornbread with some hot pickled veggies called "chow chow" make a low cost but filling supper by themselves. Try them sometime for your Shabbot with what seasonings and meat you are familiar with they are very good! Tip for "taking the gas" out of dried peas and beans is to add about a teaspoon or ground ginger powder when cooking. Not enough to taste but it works! Down South there are many different types and varieties, as they grow well in long hot humid weather and in poor soils where nothing else will grow and build nitrogen so you can find them fresh at farmers markets and roadside stands, but for dried ones, there isn't much variety most common being black eyed peas.
I love any meal on a budget! You make it look so simple. You must be a very organized person. In the short time I have been watching your videos I have learned so much from you! Please keep it up!
this is one my favorite videos of yours. I love your giggling!! your happy energy is so contagious here! ❤ you made me smile so many times. blessings to you!
I will never shop for food the same way again! I can’t believe what I have been consuming all these years! I know the FDA/Health Inspectors allow for a certain amount of bugs, rodent hair and feces in our packaged/non-packaged foods, but seriously? Your food inspection is so time consuming, but now I see the necessity for it. Not only does it keep your family Kosher, but healthier. Kudos to you! I hope (I know) your family appreciates all that you do.
Cow peas = black eyed peas. They were originally feed for animals but after the human food was destroyed by the Union troops during the American civil war people began to cook them to have something to eat. We are Traditional Catholic and have very much enjoyed your videos. We have incorporated parts of your Shabbat routine to fit our Sunday routine. I really enjoyed your modest dressing video as well. We are also encouraged to dress modestly. It is difficult to explain to people of the world how it is not oppressive. My motto is that "we are called to be in this world but not of this world' (meaning the secular world)

I know a little about Shabbat I know it's on Friday the family gets together and it's time to relax and kind of step away from the outside world I think it's a good thing families need to do that more often
hi Shulamit! you are right! if there is a stem attached there is no problem but the one that i have showed with no stem and fully peeled cannot be used like if they are left overnight in the fridge or elsewhere unless they are in food or in a sauce or oil :)
I stumbled upon your channel this weekend and have binged a large portion of your videos. I've learned so much about Jewish culture, meal prep, and how to better store my produce! Thanks so much for sharing your skills!
Thank you so much for sharing your food storage tips! I received in your 20 min video what I wish I had learned years ago! This is the first video of yours I’ve seen. I’m looking forward to many more!
Cow peas are also called "black-eyed peas" (well, this is a specific cultivar of cow pea that is different than what you had that I can get pretty easily here) and in the southeastern US (where I'm from) they are eaten on New Years Day along with greens (turnip greens or collard greens are common but any cooked leafy green, I did kale this year), corn bread, and (if you are not me) pork, for luck and money in the new year. I usually cook them with onion, garlic, salt and pepper (some folks add pork). They are pretty darn tasty and filling. Even better if you have some chow chow (a kind of pickle relish made with green tomatoes) or pear relish (my Granny made this all the time and it is SO GOOD but tedious to make). Not necessary, but is really good as a condiment.
thank you so much ! i am super happy you pressed PLAY and watched! I am so happy it was helpful to you and i am so grateful you took the time to write to me! have a blessed day
Wow, hashem has taught you well, I do the same thing with the paper towels for many years now. I love the salad, I love all the tips great video keep up the good work I love to see more thank you blessings upon you and your family

I love your comments on checking the physical properties of the food as well as the psychoanalysing them. As a former psychiatric case manager, your technique for Shabbat prep is right on target. Lol,I love Shabbat prep on a budget. You have educated me so well on how to purchase fresh produce as well as how to store it. Todah!

Hi Sara, I love Shabbat on a budget! I learned another new tip from you this week.... about the powder in the chick peas (although admittedly I use canned). I have a tip for you....if buying the large smooth surface avacado you can tell it's ripe by gently shaking it, if the pit moves it's ripe! I too was wondering what those cow peas are
Awww thank you Frankie for Your comment! I didn’t know about the shake avocado 🥑 trick! I will try it for sure!! Apparently cow peas are like black eyed peas but the black eyed peas we use are black ! So I’m confused 🤪😂 Thank you again my friend for being here: it means so much to me❤️❤️❤️
@@frumitup black-eyed peas are a cultivar of cow peas. They are probably one of my favorite things about New Years. In the southeastern US they are commonly eaten on New Years Day... which also means I should probably buy some soon because the end of December scramble going to 5 stores for the darn things is.... not what I want to do with my time. One time me and my mom went all over and the only ones we could find were frozen ones (which is fine) with... green beans mixed in? It was odd, and we are pretty sure the added green beans were the only reason they were still there. (I left a longer comment on the video about what we eat with them and why).
Cowpeas are also called Blackeyed Peas. There’s a lot of southern recipes but usually involve treif. Though maybe Michael Twitty’s Kosher Soul will have one when it comes out.
Of course my sweet friend I will do that video for you! Thank you again for being here and just being beautiful inside and out ❤️Shabbat shalom mon amie🥰
I used cow peas to make soup and with rice known as rice n peas. So I boil the cow peas wen cook I add coconut milk season with garlic powder onion powder, a little sugar, salt and a little cooking oil then add ur rice u can eat with any meat of ur choice
I treat cowpeas like black eyed peas or field peas. I am from the American south, and many of our recipes would definitely not be kosher, but I also like a northern African take with tomato/pepper/onion/cumin or made into fritters, i think they are called akara
Woooowwww thank you so much Susan! I am learning sooooo much! If you have a favourite recipe with cow peas please let me know: I would love to do it! Thank you again for your comment and taking time in your busy day to watch the video❤️ Much love coming your way🥰

I love Shabbos on a budget.
So glad you’re back! My husband and I have both missed you.
thank you!
I am almost back as i cannot upload new videos yet, but G.od willing soon!

Your laughter was infectious. 😆🥰 Thank you, Sarah. ❤️
Thank YOU to be here!
I too was wondering what those cow peas are
Awww thank you Frankie for
Your comment!
I didn’t know about the shake avocado 🥑 trick!
I will try it for sure!!
Apparently cow peas are like black eyed peas but the black eyed peas we use are black ! So I’m confused 🤪😂
Thank you again my friend for being here: it means so much to me❤️❤️❤️
@@frumitup black-eyed peas are a cultivar of cow peas.
You are incredible! What a pleasure it is to see your videos. 🕯🕯 Shabbat Shalom!
thank you so much Hemda:) you are so sweet!
have a great week and a blessed shabbat shalom!
Cowpeas are also called Blackeyed Peas. There’s a lot of southern recipes but usually involve treif. Though maybe Michael Twitty’s Kosher Soul will have one when it comes out.
Thank you so much James😀

We do not have dietary restrictions so our green onions,’our favorite “. However I buy water onions cause it’s just tasty!

AWESOME TIPS AND TRICKS!!
ALSO A AWESOME CHANNEL TO LEARN ABOUT YOUR RELIGION!! IT’S GREAT TO LEARN NEW THINGS!! 🥰

Mangoes ..... As with most fruit and veggies, lots of different varieties. The big ones you looked at were Kents which are known for having a sweet and sour flavour - fantastic for drying by the way.
