      Right? It's absolutely insane that a product that is pork would even remotely be labeled as Kosher. Even with an OU certification. That would make me question every OU marked product if even one can get away with it.

    I am catholic so of course know little about Kosher (and Halal) so thank you for this. Although I do not keep any dietary restrictions I am LIVID that some companies would stoop so low as to fake the signs to dupe people into buying their products. A disgusting and greedy move.

      @@kigeerdink6662 This is commonly done on all vegan foods. Because they cannot be sure that dairy hasn't somehow come into contact with the product, and it's sold as "Dairy Free", they have to put a disclaimer in case somehow dairy does come into contact with the food.

    To lable anything with pork in it as kosher is truly shameful, as it preys on ignorance of that one specific law of kosher food. It's also kind of funny as most people who are not Jewish or Muslim know this is a strict taboo for both groups.

    • @katiekawaii
      @katiekawaii ปีที่แล้ว +19

      I can't figure out why they would even do that. I have never met a person who keeps kosher but doesn't know pork isn't kosher. So who are they trying to trick with that? Either you keep kosher, in which case you know that the pork can't be kosher, or you don't keep kosher, in which case you won't care if it's kosher or not. You know what I mean?

    • @NekoArts
      @NekoArts ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I might be wrong but the first thing that comes to mind are all the "fake" or "mock" products available today. Take for example vegan meatballs or the like. Someone who might not be paying attention or perhaps a recent convert might see something such as a pork product with a kosher-label and think "maybe this is a mock-product?". I can especially see how a recent convert who's still "learning the ropes" might fall prey to these types of tactics.
      The reality, unfortunately, is that this isn't exclusive to kosher and non-kosher products either. We are all being tricked to one extent or the other by similar tactics (even those of us without special dietary rules). Many of us have no idea what we're actually putting in our bodies, we just assume and trust (and hope?) that we're not being lied to - and these greedy corporations are more than happy to take advantage of that trust.

    Not Jewish or Kosher, and it all seems really complicated at first, but when my daughter was small and my husband was healing from some health issues, we had a list of things we avoided - soy, artificial dyes, refined sugar, corn syrup, added weird meat products (carageean yay!), local/grassfed and more - and it became a habit to read sources/labels/etc, you get into a routine pretty quickly and it becomes double checking to make sure products/companies haven't changed.
    The biggest issues was the meat, because we only ate local beef that hadn't been on a feed lot and local chicken that had been raised on an actual farm. I really hope to go back to shopping this way soon, but inflation is kicking our bums.

    As a muslim it's definitely less complicated for me (halal is kind of "kosher light" I'd say since we can mix meat and dairy) but still we need to check every product as there's often false certifications or they use certain types of alcohol in bread, cake, candy,... as preservatives which is not permissible. I live in Switzerland near a jewish neighborhood - they're very religious and take quality very seriously- and I use to buy my products there because as long as they're alcohol free I'm good to go 😊

      Have I tried the smoked salmon and cream cheese combo? Oh, heck yes, and it's delightful, but then I must really have an inner feline, because I loooove most fish. Tuna can go flip-flop elsewhere, however. It's not my favorite texture or flavor. 😅

Soda was a real treat since mom was very careful to make sure we ate and drank only good things and sugar items were a once a week treat.

    I love to learn! I have made it a practice for the last 50 years to learn at least one new thing a day and with your help I learned today about fake kosher symbols. What a bummer! As a T2 diabetic I already have to scrutinize labels for ingredients and now I find that something I thought I could rely on may be misleading as well. I think I will just crawl into a hole and drink water! Even shopping for things to eat is becoming a chore. Blessings on you and your family 🙏❤️

      Dennis, I am also a T2 diabetic (diet controlled) and have you tried Stevia as a sweetener? Unlike things like sucrose, mannitol or sorbitol, saccharine, monkfruit and other sweeteners, Stevia does NOT raise the glycemic index! But again, read labels, as some stevia IS combined with other sweeteners to "boost" the sweetness!

      Dear Firebird: For time immemorial, whenever the Jewish people found themselves in difficult situations, whether individually or communally, they would open up the Book of Psalms and use King David’s ageless poetic praises and supplications to beseech G-d for mercy.
      The Midrash tells us that when King David compiled the Psalms, he had in mind himself, as well as every person of every generation and every circumstance. No matter who you are and what the situation, the words of the Psalms speak the words of your heart and are heard On High. Source: Chabad

There are a lot of people who would just see the kosher mark and assume it's okay, while you go the extra mile to make certain. Our family is Catholic and while most eat meat on Friday now, unless it's during Lent, we prefer to not eat meat on any Friday. Instead, we'll have either a fish dish, pasta with no meat, or our daughter enjoys cheese pizza. Sending love and best wishes to you and your family for a great week! Love from Memphis, TN!

Since my husband is allergic to fish I then look at ingredients to see if it is safe for him (no kosher gelatin, only beef or vegan for us). My friends are always surprised to learn that candy or cereal with marshmallows or commercially prepared cornbread mix contains animal products. Haha I did not realize that companies counterfeit the hechshers so I will keep a closer eye. Thank you for the link to the website! You are such a blessing in my life. Thank you.

    I had no idea that fake Kosher labels were a thing! I think because many groceries in the store are generally kosher, the symbols of kosher are ubiquitous on many products and thus manufacturers are just inclined to stamp a Circle K or whatnot on the label without considering whether the ingredients in the food line up with the laws of kosher. Sure does give a whole new meaning to the phrase "buyer beware".
