Do you guys know, no record is safe from healthy Hungry Messi, Vera record at 34 goal is not safe at all, if Messi stay healthy, nothing is impossible for someone that score 91 goals in 1 calendar year. Messi is more focus helping his team winning the matches, than breaking some record he dosent even care about, he has way to many of those individual records already. he dosent need them.
Im pretty sure he also had 22 assists that year aswel. So 113 combined goals and assists in a year will definitely not be broken in our lifetimes. The closest ive found to that in history is few players that have hit the late 80s and very early 90s while playing within what was a top 5 league at the time.
No, i don't think that's the argument. Messi won't break the record because he will miss 8 games for Copa America (maybe even 10). You aren't breaking goal records in leagues in playing 2/3rds of a season no matter how good you are. If Messi DOES do that, it doesn't say anything about him but it deminishes the legacy of the MLS, so hopefully for the sake of the MLS he DOESN'T break that 34G 15A in 27+ games .
I do agree with you although a prime 25 year old leo messi would break those kind of records with only playing 2/3rds of a season. But he will turn 37 in just over a month and he is most definitely far far slower than he used to be. It was about 4 or 5 years ago when he acceleration and agility started slowing down. But his footballing brain and pure natural qualities that only he posses still allows him to top scoring and assisting charts at the same time. As long as he is fit he will average either a goal or assist every 90mins. Even though he is inly 50-60% of his old overall agility and pace.
Maybe he won't but don't doubt he is capable of doing it. You are talking about a man who scored 50 goals in 38 games at the spanish league in a moment it was, by far, the best league in the world. If he decides to do it, he will. Is as simple as that.
If he's one of the best ever (top 5- whatever you want to rank him as) of course he is the absolute best player this league has ever seen. In many ways he's the best player to have played in La Liga which is 100000000 times better than mls.
Herc I have to disagree he's committed to the cause in mls. I'm a dc united fan lives in DC went to 2 games that messi was supposed to go but he claims he's hurt in Hong Kong the same.
I’d love to see Messi break Vela’s record but I have to admit.. the arguments against it are at least solid. If I were a betting man I’d say no-but I hope I’m wrong.
Ya dude, you're wrong. 9 gls in 7 matches? Plus Messi usually peaks in the middle of seasons. Now that he started off on fire, what until you see him score brace after brace in a couple of months. It's a looooong way till November.
If he had a good defense and more attacking midfielders, Messi's stats would be even higher. But Miami is still looking for CB's and defensive midfielders.
They have a man who has been the cest defensive midfielder of all time. Most americans don't even understand how big Busquets has been as defensive midfielder.
Messy is way bigger than the whole mls leauge, incompareable but he choosed to come there because of david bekham invited him to his lowest worst ever team of the mls intermiami to uplift the club.
The type of clown title to draw attention… its the same hypocritical crap childish pundits put out.. If Messi does well, MLS sucks its a bad league If Messi struggles then it encourages the “retirement” league narrative Stephen A Gomez with the “insightful” takes
Messi is not only the best player in MLS alone. But also the best player in the world.
Messi is easily the best player to play the game. 🙂

Messi is the only player that ALL fans want to see play…this guy is drawing in sold out stadiums like he’s a ROCK STAR!! 😎
Literally the best and the only MLS player to win Ballon d'or 🏆
Messi is the greatest player to play the game. Not just MLS
best in the MLS? wtf. Best in the world!
Man…every other soccer players scores but the techniques how Messi puts the balls into the net is ridiculous 👍👍
Don't forget, he's missed 4 more matches than the #2, #3, and #4 highest scorers.
To be fair, he used to make top flight European footballers look like a bunch of amateurs too.

I'm betting he will. He's got 9 + 7. And he's already missed 4 matches. He won't miss 8 during the Copa. Copa is only a 2-3 week tournament at most.
