    Correction: there are also three AF lenses from Zeiss (Touit 2.8/12, 1.8/32 and 2.8/50 Macro).

    I'm going through dozens of different Fuji lens reviews these days to get a grip of the Fuji ecosystem and just want to say your review of these lenses was one of the best. The way you present information and provide samples is pretty much top notch.

    I would choose the 50 f/2. Great little thing. Sharp, small, WR and I always prefer lenses with better magnification. They give the option of more interesting shots.

      @@MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons Is there any chance that you could do a Z6ii AF comparison--using the latest firmware--against its competitors? (Sony, Canon, Fuji) I know that would be a lot of work, but if you did an AF comparison only that users of all four brands would watch the video. It could be an R6/Z6ii/A7iii/X-T4 shoot out with percentage hit rates under different lighting conditions. Thanks!

    The tiny 50/2 and the 56/1.2 still seem to offer the best value/performance ratio.

    Watched this before, but skipped through most of it and went to the conclusion. This time I watched the whole thing from front to back and was very impressed at the thoroughness of this review. Honestly, probably the best review I’ve seen comparing these lenses, especially all four. I own the 56mm and was curious how the new 50 mm F 1.0 compared. Each lens obviously has strengths and weaknesses, but after watching this I’m happy sticking with my 56 mm, and for the price of the 50 mm F 1.0 I also have the 90 mm F2, and the 56 and the 90 together we only 100 g more than just the 50 mm F 1.0. To put in another way, the 50 mm F 1.0 actually weighs more than the 16 to 55 mm F2.8 and a 35 mm F1.4 combined. Thanks again!

    the 50mm f2 its a wonderful lens.
    with great resolution, good optic, beautiful contrast, and colors,
    and feels amazing in my hand, and perfect for video use.
    IMO the best native lens for B&W shoots!

    • @jimmason8502
      @jimmason8502 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have both the Fuji 56 and the 50mmf2 and you are correct, the B&W images from the 50mm are stellar. And I'm glad I got the 56mm instead of the 50f1, that extra 3/4 of a stop or so isn't that significant in terms of bokeh and the lens is a lot more expensive and heavier than the 56.

    I have the feeling that the Viltrox prime lineup for Fuji cameras really is a big benefit for Fuji cameras.
    they have equivalents to current Fuji lenses (23 1.4, 33 1.4, 56 1.4 and 85 1.8), and even have lenses where Fuji hasn't stepped on the segment yet (13 1.4), all for a pretty affordable price and awesome value, especially for the 85 1.8 as it is really close to the fuji 90 f2 at less than half the price.
    The latest 1.4 lenses coming from Fuji (18 1.4, 23 1.4 and 33 1.4) really are works of art when it comes to opticas and all of those lenses are basically perfect, so it really depends if you're OK to spend more for more sharpness and less optical quirks. Overall though, the Viltrox lenses are an amazing value

    Thanks for the great comparison! The 56 1.2 is by far my favourite, but the Viltrox is the only one I can afford hahaha. The Viltrox has improved substantially with a few firmware updates, too.

    • @JHuffPhoto
      @JHuffPhoto 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree with you but and I also have the 56 1.2. However that Viltrox really held its own on the real world shots. I did notice that the bokeh got a little nervous looking on the shots that had a busy background to begin with. Both the Viltrox and the Tiny 50 had that same issue. In particular it was the shots of the person with the trees in the background (around 13:09) that exhibited this.

    The difference of subject isolation between both 50mm at f2 is due to the mechanical vignette ( cat's eye) of the "Tiny" at this aperture.The "big" being stopped down at f2 is free of this phenomenon. Mechanical vignette increases the depth of field where it is present.

    I bought the Fuji-System because of its size and weight. Shallow depth of field and nice bokeh can be acieved with a much more affordable full-frame-system. But still the best comparison of the 50ies here on TH-cam!!!!!! Trés bien!!!!!!
    I´ll keep the 2.0 for fun and for serious portraits Nikon D750 with 85mm f 1.8 (costs less than Fuji f 1.0)

    Another consideration for some might be the KamLan 50mm F1.1 II. It is a manual lens, but has very good travel for the focus ring, and can be very precise when paired with focus peaking. For still portraits it is fine as well as other artistic shots. Lovely color and contrast.

    A note: Zeiss tout 50mm f2.8 is another third party autofocus lens that has been around since 2014. Even though it is slower at f2.8, it is super sharp wide open and and the rendering is delicious, making a very nice portrait option with the added bonus of 1:1 macro capabilities (oops, I see you already made mention of the Zeiss lenses).

  • @tomislavmiletic_
    @tomislavmiletic_ 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yep Zeiss has those lenses out for at least 5 years. But for some reason nobody talks about them.
    Have the 56/1,2 for years and I adore it, all do it frustrates me sometimes, first of all due the lack of WR, secondly its old AF motor tends to freeze in sub zero temperatures so no shooting in the snow for prolonged period of time.
    50/1,0 is great but a bit too big / bulky / heavy / pricey for what I do.
    Viltrox I could consider as a backup but not really.
    And 50/2.0 is great great for carry around and stealthy work. If you can justify its price which is not so high, what's quite easy if you don't have a ton of vintage 50mm lenses. What I unfortunately do have. Damn...

      The funny thing is that I reviewed the Zeiss lenses in the past, but I completely forgot about them while making the video. Maybe it's because they haven't expanded their line-up for so long (or simply put, they have abandoned the project).
