    The 899 has an 898? I know is somewhat arbitrary but if you're going to get it that close why not make it actually match. Engineer to Marketing guy, "Nope, it's impossible to give it 1 more cc. It would literally explode. Sorry dude."

    Why does every review I watch have a completely different opinion of this bike, even against the same competitors. I'm set on a new bike this spring but I can only rag on the demo bikes so hard - would be nice to watch some honest head-to-heads since half these bike mags are clearly getting paid my manufacturers. Oh, and the 636 does not belong in this class - should have thrown in a Daytona-R instead.

      I'm in the same box as you. Im thinking 899, monster 1200s or MV agusta brutale drafter. But most likely the 899.

      Ryan Rentschler I bought the 899. So far I'm really happy with my choice. I test rode all the bikes in this shootout and the 899 was definitely the winner for me. Lots of character and the handling is fantastic.

    I have a ’11 CBR 600rr, a ’06 CBR 600rr and a ’14 899 Panigale - white (all with about 5,000 mi.). The Ducati looks amazing, but the CBRs are faster, more fun, and I don’t have to think about anything. The Panigale has a little bit of wiggle problem at high speeds (~120 mph+) when hitting a bump (CBRs never do). The Panigale has trouble starting w/a hot engine, which is embarrassing - the CBRs operate like a Swiss watch. The CBRs have a higher red line, so it’s excitement at the top end, in lieu of merely shifting - although the Ducati is throaty, which I like. I'm not sure which is technically faster (0-60), but the CBRs feel faster. I’d say the difference is akin to driving an American hot rod that sounds great and looks amazing vs. say, an S2000 or NSX, which is reliable AND functional. Disclaimer: I've only been on the Ducati for about 2 months and I've ridden Hondas since age 8 ... I'm now 46, so there might be some inherent bias ... meaning, I'm very comfortable and accustomed to the Hondas. $.02 from one who currently owns both brands (I find myself getting on my CBRs more ... they're just more fun).

    I don't know if those fraction of a second time differenses matter but in terms of sound,looks and ridding comfort that is my winner!!!!A LIVING legend!My advice to anyone considering a bike un that range:
    Go and test ride ..the bike will talk to you!All of the above are great bikes ...no doubt about it!

      phoenix1925 Right? If want something I have to rev the tits off of, I'd get an inline four. It might be great on the track, but for a daily or canyon carver, I've no interest in a high strung bike.

    " Despite of its hefty rolling weight"......???????what the fuck. Since when is a 899 hefty? (372.5 lbs.)

      +Daniel A When u put in all the fluids and weigh them, some 1000cc superbikes are actually just 2 to 3kg heavier.

    i wondered how this bike managed to stay so narrow while having more CC's in the engine, Keyword V twin compared to japanese inline 4s

  • @JoaoPCavalcanti
    @JoaoPCavalcanti 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    On a narrow track, it s really hard to see the potential of the midsize engines.
    Agility and lightness (and setups to which the riders are used) count much more

    Great review sir. Oh no! My new 899 seven point behind 3rd place.... :(
    2 cylinder build high horsepower= weak torque. If I get your info earlier, I might get the green beast. 899 using 180/60 at rear makes 899 left to right faster, but heard some "pro" says that 60 strongly not recommend for high speed corner and street use, but that 60 profile size 899 set up with the traction control already. Can we change to 55? (Hand book not recommend) And 60 or 55 you using for this test? Thanks

    Great review on this bikes. Peasant surprise to se MV Augusta rank up the Ducati.
    Guys when are you reviewing the new Buell super sport bike? I would like to see how it stack against the BMW hp monster.
    Keep up the good job

    As a guy who rides an 1198 motor based Ducati, I have to wonder WTF Ducati is thinking and doing...Building twins with all of the bottom end and mid range sacrificed for top end. Are they reading a book somewhere titled "how to make a shitty road engine?". If they are going to continue the pursuit of top end they should just throw in the towel and make an inline 4.

    • @DarwinAllen
      @DarwinAllen 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Screw that - V4 all the way. Aprilia got that part right - I'd love to see something in the middleweight class with a V4. Ducati has made some V4 bikes and they sound amazing; a modern version would be killer. I doubt they will ever produce an I4 bike, not their style.

  • @Dreadzedan
    @Dreadzedan 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ducati twins , aprillia with v4 as well as triples ( brutal rasp)sound way better than i-4(i-4 sound generic and weak) like weak f1 imitations made in a computer then demasculinised. Tired of hearing their generic synthetic sound. Hence Honda finally (v4) and Yamaha(i-3) dumping them.

    • @johna.6447
      @johna.6447 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      How a bike sounds does not improve performance, it's just a by product. While some prefer the sound of a twin, others might prefer the sound of an in line four. In the end, if you buy a bike based on the exhaust note you are buying for the wrong reason.......and you are probably just a poser.

    With all of the comments that I have been reading about this comparison video, as with any motorsport, is they are all biased. These bikes are completely unmodified and straight from the factory. That is the comparison these guys are doing. 9 times out of 10 an avid track rider will definitely not have a factory bike. Gear ratios will be adjusted for maximum performance and least amount of shifting of gears, full exhausts with tuned maps, upgraded clutches, tires, weight reduction, you name it. Feedback is based on the rider and what they feel is comfortable for them. A Ducati may not be everyone's favorite and the same goes for all other bikes in a particular class. Straight off the showroom floor, this is an exquisite bike and will surely turn heads. It may cost more than a Japanese or British bike, but you're paying for top end quality, looks, and the name. Throw a slip-on, carbon fiber parts and some minor replacements and you have one hell of a beautiful sounding bike that will surely set you apart from the pack. Like I said in the beginning, this is a factory comparison. It is a rarity that a track rider will compete on a stock bike, unless they are beginners.

    • @johna.6447
      @johna.6447 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you have a point. But the fair way to compare what the manufacturers offer is to ride them as they are off the showroom floor. From there we all pretty much like to modify to make them fit how we ride.

    I am thinking of buying a new street bike, but i´m also interested in taking it to a lot of track days, I want an honest opinion, I'm thinking in the ktm 1290 super duke r or the 899 panigale, I know the ktm is designed for street more than track and it's the opposite with the panigale, but in a honest opinion which bike will take more my breath away and feel faster and I'm not sure if the ktm will let me do high lean angles, thank you for your opinion and have a nice day :)
