Great video. I shoot real estate and need the HDR setup and you made me choose this camera. Thanks for the in-depth straight forward information on how to use the bracketing feature. In fact i saved the link.
Thanks a lot! Glad the video helped you out and that you went with the Nikon D810. It's a great camera for real estate shots. If you have any other questions or need more tips, just let me know. Happy shooting!
Ben, How refreshing to have something explained so clearly, as you would expect from an Aussie! Very helpful thank you. The hardest part about learning something new is the multitude of varying opinions which can be exhaustive and overcomplicated. Bite sized pieces of visual information work really well for me. Keep up the good work!
love your clear, to the point presentation still getting to grips with my D810 and photography in general so loving your work. Many thanks I've subscribed so you can continue to educate me cheers Ben your a diamond
Hello Ben, Many thanks for providing a succinct explanation of bracketing on the D810. Your tip will save me time with shooting difficult situations such as poorly lit living rooms with a view in large windows. I'll give Photomatix a try too. By the way, it is refreshing to see that you reply to questions viewers pose after seeing your video...brilliant! Cheers!
Excellent video Ben! I wish you would do a tutorial on setting up the 4 menu custom banks for different situations in the D810, like landscape, portrait, sports, city shooting. keep making these they are great!
Great video. Very informative. Just a "heads-up." When using the remote of my Solmeta Geotagger Pro2 (on a Nikon D810) it would only take 1 image regardless of the bracketing settings. However, if I pressed the shutter manually the correct number of bracketed shots were taken. By changing the number of shots in the C3 Self Timer menu both the manual and remote shutters worked correctly. Not sure if this is an issue with other remotes.
G.day Ben, the first video I have watched of yours. Just subscribed. looks interesting. You seem to explain things simply and to the point. I am waiting for my D 810 to arrive. I am a nikon user so should not be too hard to get used to.Thanks, Geoff, Toowoomba.
awesome video. I was wondering if you could do a video tutorial for this camera. I would like to see how you set yours up vs how I (and others) set ours up. Thanks a lot
Hey Ben - great vid and got me most of the way there, but I still can't get it to automatically fire all 5 exposures. It just fires 1. I set the bracket for 5 frames, set the autotimer - followed the video to a t. Not sure what I'm missing. Any thoughts? Thanks!
You'll have to hold the shutter throughout the entire process. Or, go to your self timer settings and set those as follows: Interval set to 2 seconds (or whatever you want) with .5 second intervals and set it to take the same amount of shots as you plan to bracket. So 3 bracketed shots would mean having the interval set to 3 shots. Then when you press your shutter it'll take all three without you needing to press it each time.
Thanks for the video! What is the max amount of frames you can take at 2 stops apart? In the video you showed 3 frames and 5 frames, does it go higher?
Good Video! I am still having an issue tho... I can clearly hear your camera click off 5 shots. The first try, was 5 clicks. Then my camera clicks one time, and 5 images show up. Am I really getting the range? It doesn't look like it to me. Maybe I missed something... I am set on timer, 5 frames, 2 and 3 (tried both) stops... would love to know what I am doing different?
Nice video bracketing tutorial for Nikon D810 Ben! I have a question? How do you do HDR mode? I did set to JPEG (normal only format? format but the HDR function is still gray out and I cant choose to turn on.
Nice video! A few months ago I watched your video and did what you said and it worked great. Yesterday I when out and tried the same thing and it would only take one shot. What do you think I would be doing wrong? I set it up just like you said and this time it would only take one shot.
Ben, what do I do if I'm using a flashgun (in a studio for a portrait) which takes longer than 0.5s to recharge for each flash (on full power)? I COULD ask my subjects to sit perfectly still but that's a little impractical - the slightest movement they might make and the shot's as good as ruined. I'm not using natural light as what's available just isn't strong enough, hence the choice to use flash. Oh and yes I'm using a D810. I want my studio portraits to get as much bit depth as possible because I'm imminently due to start production on my portfolio. Thanks!
Hey Ben - What is the maximum amount of brackets you can do with the D810? I'm used to using a Canon with Magic Lantern, and I sometimes need as much as 7 shots spaced by 3 EVs each. Is that possible with the D810?
I've got 2 d810s and can't get either to auto bracket even though I've followed everything here. Is there some other setting that needs to be on/off besides using the bkt button and front/back wheels? For instance, does the metering need to be center or spot? mine is set to 5fps, is that the issue?
Is it possible to do HDR time lapse on Nikon D810 where HDR is incamera, otherwise you end up processing hundreds of separate HDRs before you can put them in time lapse.
I tried to follow your setup for bracketing and you lost me. Images don't match yours. I'm a professional photographer and use a D700 for Real Estate Photography and use 9 Brackets mainly for rooms with windows. I had access to a brand new D810 and could not set it up for bracketing. Watched your video here but like I said your images on Dynamic Range did not match what you r images here. Help!
Problem: On the info page on my monitor, if I depress the BKT button, the display goes to a number on the left and "AG" on the right. Rotating the front dial changes the number from 2 to 10 in single increments. Rotating the rear dial will first add a multi-frame symbol (overlapping pages) then an "L" inside a reverse-video box. I can't seem to find a way to get the display options seen on your video. On my old D90, bracketing works as advertised. This is frustrating. Any suggestions?
+Si Wheeler aha! I'll have to look at that. I got the camera used for a bargain and haven't undone all the settings from the previous owner. I may just have to do a factory reset. Thanks.
I think Nikon is not as quick in auto exposure bracketing as Canon. The interval between each frame was quite longer than Canon. So there are more chances of ghosting in the final merged image. But as Nikon's Dynamic Range is much better than Canon so we can get a good image out of single exposure only.
+Rahul Zota Do you have experience with both the Canon and the d810? If yes, which Canon. At this moment i have a 6d with a 16-35 lens, the good one. But thinking of changing to Nikon d810. In fact only for the dynamic range. Doing a lot of interior shots
What the hell was that Running by in the Backround? WOW Didn't anyone else notice that? was something fairly low to the ground yet fairly tall and wide? 20 to 30 Pounds maybe :- Great Review BTW,
So glad to finally find someone that has the D810 that can give clear and easy to follow advice. Thank you

Is there a way to set up a seperate file on your card / camera so it is easy to move your pictures for post processing?
Nice Ben. What is the additional monitor you have on the tripod.
Thanks
Greg
nopriors thanks Greg. That is an ATOMOS Ninja. I use it to record a HDMI out from the DSLR so you can see my live view and menu. Cheers, Ben.

Nice video bracketing tutorial for Nikon D810 Ben! I have a question? How do you do HDR mode? I did set to JPEG (normal only format? format but the HDR function is still gray out and I cant choose to turn on.
Hi Tim. I don't use the HDR mode in the camera. I shoot multiple exposures and blend them together later in post production. Cheers, Ben
Nice video! A few months ago I watched your video and did what you said and it worked great. Yesterday I when out and tried the same thing and it would only take one shot. What do you think I would be doing wrong? I set it up just like you said and this time it would only take one shot.
I had the same problem. I must have a setting on my camera different because it don't do multiple shots when I followed the video.
Thank you subscribed

nice video, any option auto cancel bracketing in D810?
Not that I know of, I think you have to de-activate it manually each time. Cheers, Ben.
Thanku
Hi Ben if I have to have 3 stacks of Images (0, +2, -2) +/-2 EV for Google street view is the BRK setting on the D810 - show on camera 3F 2.0? thanks
Great job, but first I had to search the web to see why my bkt button wasnt working. It came from the factory set to something other then bkt.
I've got 2 d810s and can't get either to auto bracket even though I've followed everything here. Is there some other setting that needs to be on/off besides using the bkt button and front/back wheels? For instance, does the metering need to be center or spot? mine is set to 5fps, is that the issue?
Liked it, thanks :)
You're welcome!
in aperture mode, when set +4 stop over exposure the camera auto set over 30" of exposure?
Is it possible to do HDR time lapse on Nikon D810 where HDR is incamera, otherwise you end up processing hundreds of separate HDRs before you can put them in time lapse.
how to make outside the camera HDR ?
Ben, what's the monitor that you have attached to your tripod, and what did you use to attach it. Can you adjust it for sun glare?
Hi Gary, it is an Atomos Ninja and is there simply to record my LCD screen giving you a better view of my settings/outcomes. Cheers, Ben
Thanks so much for your prompt reply!
I have nikon D810 amd i do the same steps but it wont take 3 picture in different exposures what am i missing, please help.
That was a nice video. .. which tripod do you use

Is it work for D800?
you didn't say set mode to 'A'.
At this moment i have a 6d with a 16-35 lens, the good one. But thinking of changing to Nikon d810. In fact only for the dynamic range. Doing a lot of interior shots
Is HDR only used while bracketing
Billy Ray yes, to do HDR you need multiple exposures and bracketing is the best way I have found to do it.
He didn't mention how to turn Bracketing Off?
what kind of tripod is that?
+trevor boller A Really Right Stuff TVC-33
Can you please tell me why I can't do this In M mode? and only A
Not sure why, just use Aperture Mode :-)
What the hell was that Running by in the Backround? WOW

Anyone doing hdr photography with a d810 or any dslr or mirrorless camera should be ashamed 😂
Very helpful video. Thank you.
