Priests also need to allot enough time for confession. If you only have a 30 min confession slot before mass once a week on a Saturday, and 20 people who need to go to confession, that's really not going to hack it. I always think they should have at least one Saturday a month where they have a 3-hour confession session. Then the usual shorter 30 min weekly confessions the rest of the month. Feeling like you have to rush a confession because there are others waiting isn't a good thing. We are not going to confession at the priest's convenience. He's there to serve his flock in Jesus's name. We're all busy, priest included, but there are things that can't be rushed and a good confession is one of them.
I love the 4 C’s, and I agree a list is good because it’s easy to get distracted due to shame or embarrassment. However, I couldn’t help but get a sense that maybe my confession isn’t important enough to waste the priest’s time. Maybe I should just skip it to let others go to confession. I’m pretty sure that is not what he meant, but if I felt it, others probably did, too.
I agree. When I was younger, our Confession schedule on a Saturday was 3:00-5:00 and 7:00-9:00. Wow, how times have changed! With having the Vigil Masses, why can't the priests have Confession afterwards, so the penitents. may have more time. I notice that almost the whole congregation receives Holy Communion, but not so many are in line for Confession. I wonder how many are actually receiving unworthily. Priests need to "preach" about going to Confession more often and receiving Our Lord more worthily. Too many don't believe they are receiving His Body and Blood and sacrilege is being committed. Father's, please address this to your flocks! You are our shepherds!
I agree. Our pastor also offers confession on Wed nights and in the early morning so the kids can go before school. Also you can always make an appointment. I live in Colorado Springs and there is a catholic center where Franciscans have mass twice a day. Plus they here confessions all day except during mass.

Excellent episode. This complete what was left out in other videos about Confessions I have watched, like knowing about a sin we committed and that we know we need to change but not feeling shame or remorse. Very deep indeed. The Sacrament of Confession is a great Sacrament because is not only about forgiveness and growing in sanctity with the graces conferred in the Sacrament itself, but also about healing. It’s a shame so many Catholics are not aware of the value of this Sacrament because is not being explained and promoted by the Church, but the opposite with statements like: “oh no that’s not a sin anymore, don’t worry”, or “no need to repent God is merciful, He loves you anyway…..”. This is not pastoral or charitable but a disservice. Thank you for this video, I’ll share it.🙏🙏🙏
I haven’t been to confession in 54 years so that means all of my adult life! I feel overwhelming shame for some of things I’ve done and I’m currently saying the Rosary everyday as well as praying the Heavenly Father gives me the courage to go to Confession. I have been close a few times but changed my mind at the last moment😢
Thanks for sharing! You can do it! There is nothing in your confession that will surprise the priest. He has heard it all. I will be praying for you - offering you to the intercession of our Blessed Mother.
I like going to confessions at churches which have many priests hearing confessions before and during Mass. Sometimes the wait takes all the time until the end of the Mass, that we accompany from the waiting area, but it is beautiful to see everyone committing to the Sacrament.
I tend to go over my past too much. I get anxious that I have not confessed properly in the past. I always try to remember to pray Jesus help me to know You are speaking through this priest. Twice by 2 different priests I was told in the same exact words as I confessed past sins, "It is time to move forward, your previous sins have been . absolved." I was stunned when the second priest told me word for word what the first priest said. I still struggle with scrupulosity, but I got the message loud and clear . This video just reinforced that. I have to trust
This was so good for me to see. I am going to confession for the first time in a very long time on Monday and I have prayed and prayed in preparation. I have worried that the confession will take too long, but our parish has 23 priests listening to confession that day, so I think it will be ok to be thorough, but still considerate of the time. My worry is that I am so saddened by my sins that have bottled up over the years, that I am afraid I will be emotional and unable to voice my words, therefore taking more time. Thank you for this wonderful guide on confession. I saw it in God's perfect timing.
Clear, concise, contrite, complete. Nice. I get most angry and spewing when I'm sinned against. I have a difficult time in turning the other cheek. I want to stand up for myself.

I feel your pain. I have to give you a big "ME TOO". Over the years, what I've come to be comfortable with, is that I regard my time in the booth with a Priest as a therapeutic session. Great talk Thankyou especially on Scrupliocity what kept coming to mind when you were speaking about this was Aleistor Crowley's book of learning to do things backwards is something Evil encourages and can often implant in our thoughts to create fear and doubt. I’ve been looking for those questions to be answered. Thank you so much. I also would like answers about the battle between the communion on the tongue verse the hand. I receive it through both whichever is available at the church I attended. I believe there is a crisis so I receive it however I can and I try my best to be reverent by bowing and genuflecting and checking for bits of crumbs in my hand to make sure. Otherwise, how and where else should I go to receive the Lord? Thank you both again! God bless!
No question! Receive Our Lord's Body and Blood always on the tongue from a priest whose hands are the only hands that are consecrated! If you can, find a Latin Mass Church where recipients receive Our Lord on the tongue and on their knees, humbly and reverently. (Remember, at the name of Jesus, every knee shall bend.) Giving Our Lord the utmost honor and respect He deserves in this way exemplifies that we are truly receiving His body and blood. It is no wonder so many Catholics do not believe in the Transubstantiation of the bread and wine when the Host is distributed into one's hands (having touched objects and been "soiled" in the process). This is so disrespectful. The Host is not a "symbol, " and should not be treated as such. The utmost reverence is a must!
Thank you. As someone who is not yet Catholic but I’m in the process. I truly struggle with the idea of going to confession. This has help me understand it. ✝️🙏💙✝️

@@mitchellosmer1293, of course, Mary does not forgive sin, not in the sense God does. She cannot forgive it and blot it out by the blood of Christ. She can only forgive it in the sense that it offends her, just like it offends the angels and all the saints, and can only forgive us for offending her by our sin. Mary is a creature, just like we are, and she also needed a savior. Jesus is that Savior.
Thanks for the explanation of a general confession and how to go about reserving time with a priest. Also that sin that was forgotten in the confessional. Should one receive communion or wait until he/she goes back to confession?
If you forgot to confess a sin, even a mortal sin, you can say it next time. You are still able to receive communion. If you intentionally do not confess a mortal sin, I would not receive communion until I was able to confess it. If you simply forgot to confess a mortal sin, the Absolution covers it, you are welcome to receive communion, and you merely need to confess it next time.

Thanks for sharing Darlene! I am excited for you to experience God's grace in confession. .. regarding zoom confessions... the Church does not do this. May a wonderful day. God bless.
How wonderful that you are returning to confession! A word of advice here: if you're going to have a long confession, call the church and ask if the priest can meet with you individually at another time, outside of the regular confession time. I'm sure he will be very happy to do so. Also, don't stress out if you can't remember every sin, even every mortal sin, you may have committed. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you know what you need to address in this confession, trust the process to Him, and confess only what you can remember now. Do not intentionally leave out any mortal sins, but don't worry if you forget to confess a mortal sin in this confession. If you forget to confess a mortal sin, the absolution still covers it, and you can confess it next time. God is on your side, and He is slow to anger and quick to forgive. He, the angels, all the saints in Heaven, the priests, and the Church are rejoicing that you are partaking of this sacrament. When you go to communion afterwards, remember that it was Jesus, who loves you very much, who met you in the confessional, and it is Jesus, who loves you very much, who is meeting you in the Eucharist. He is very pleased that you are moving towards him, even if you make mistakes along the way. May God be with you and fill you with hope and peace.

Sometimes individuals have such intense shame that they shut down, numb out their emotions to avoid the overwhelming shame.

Thank God For Conviction And Contrition For Sin!!!
Thank you so much for guiding me to make a good confession, God bless you
You are so welcome
I haven’t been to confession in 54 years so that means all of my adult life! I feel overwhelming shame for some of things I’ve done and I’m currently saying the Rosary everyday as well as praying the Heavenly Father gives me the courage to go to Confession. I have been close a few times but changed my mind at the last moment😢
Thanks for sharing! You can do it! There is nothing in your confession that will surprise the priest. He has heard it all. I will be praying for you - offering you to the intercession of our Blessed Mother.
@@Catholicspeaker Thank you. That means a lot 🙏🏽
I like going to confessions at churches which have many priests hearing confessions before and during Mass. Sometimes the wait takes all the time until the end of the Mass, that we accompany from the waiting area, but it is beautiful to see everyone committing to the Sacrament.
I wonder how much of my sins I’m unaware of. Can we ever be 100% self-aware?
I tend to go over my past too much. I get anxious that I have not confessed properly in the past. I always try to remember to pray Jesus help me to know You are speaking through this priest. Twice by 2 different priests I was told in the same exact words as I confessed past sins, "It is time to move forward, your previous sins have been . absolved." I was stunned when the second priest told me word for word what the first priest said. I still struggle with scrupulosity, but I got the message loud and clear . This video just reinforced that. I have to trust
Thank you Father! Clear out your Heart to receive the Lord! Love that statement and will carry that throughout the coming years!
The movie The Silence comes to mind. The Japanese man is sinful AND sorrowful. Keeps going back to confession for the same sin. Breaks my heart.
That was a great movie
Yes, I definitely have to clean house in my soul. Thank you so much for this spiritual guidance for us. It’s very helpful. 🙏🏼🕊✝️
23 priests at one confession for church? Wow at my church there was onely a max of two preists hearing confession at once.
Clear, concise, contrite, complete. Nice. I get most angry and spewing when I'm sinned against. I have a difficult time in turning the other cheek. I want to stand up for myself.
Thank you for this very informative presentation. As a new Catholic, I found this episode very helpful!
Welcome home Linda!
...as an 'old' Catholic, I too found it helpful...♡
Is God the only one who can forgive sins?
Only Jesus can forgive sins. “Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins” (Hebrews 9:22). Only Jesus shed blood for us by dying on the cross and since he was the only one who was sinless (1 Peter 1:19/2:22)

Ken, I thank you and Father for this information...I have repressed sins from 50 yrs ago that came into my head a few months ago and I have been struggling on if it needs to be confessed.. i feel it is getting in the way of my prayers and studies. Today I will go and confess those sins to clear my mind and heart. Thank you.

I feel your pain. I have to give you a big "ME TOO". Over the years, what I've come to be comfortable with, is that I regard my time in the booth with a Priest as a therapeutic session. I just talk about what's bothering me. I usually not only end up getting absolution, but often, some valuable advice.

Great talk Thankyou especially on Scrupliocity what kept coming to mind when you were speaking about this was Aleistor Crowley's book of learning to do things backwards is something Evil encourages and can often implant in our thoughts to create fear and doubt. Our Faith teachers us that when we confess our sins are truly sorry and for those we cannot remember we are by God's loving grace absolved and forgiven. We need to trust in God and not allow doubt and fear (weapons of the enemy to weaken our FAITH in God's Holy Word.

Confess to God.
All sins are ultimately sins against God (Psalm 51:4), and we should admit those sins to Him and ask for forgiveness (Psalm 32:5). God knows everything, so He already knows that you have sinned; by confessing, you are just acknowledging what you have done and agreeing with Him that it is a sin.
>>>How to confess sins according to the Bible?
We confess our sin by recognizing that we have disobeyed God's law. In contrast to hiding or lying, a confession of sin is acknowledging the wrong we have committed before the parties injured. No matter who we have wronged, we must recognize that we have first offended God.

What to do when you have trouble identifying your sins?
Silliness rules here !!!! 😁🎶🎶🎶🎵
Thank you

Good question! Father, please respond.
This is a really useful and helpful video. Thank you so much.

I love the four c approach
I didn't know there was a thing as making a general confession for past sins.
That second C was a full conversation with a confessor and me. Then I made my confession and anyway did it 🙈 I guess is in out nature to keep on justifying ourselves. It sure diminishes the level and also the contrition.
Not Feeling Contrition For Sin, Or Refusing To Confess It, Is A Dangerous Path To Be On, And It Requires The Intervention Of The Blessed Mother, To Get You Free From It. Repeated Disobedience Of Not Confessing Or Not Wanting To Confess Your Sins, Leads To What's Called Defiance~Which Is Open Resistance; Bold Disobedience. Remember In The Word It Says "To Him Who Has [Refusal , Unwillingness, Or Lack Of Desire, To Confess Sin], More Will Be Given, And To Him Who Has Not[Some Kind Of Willingness Or Contrition To Deal With Sin], Even The Little That He Does Have[The Still Small Voice Of Your Conscience, Trying To Make You Have Contrition For Sin] Will Be Taken Away!!!

Now I don't have a better understanding If I forget to say something to the priest have a sin I can do it the next time That was always my biggest problem I don't remember everything Because I have a disability I cannot spill . So now I have a phone that has a speaker I can use that to by writing everything down . Since I've been haven't given the Is confession for so long over the many years It might take some time Because in the early eighties I was using drugs and selling drugs.

Wow - I haven't been to Confession since I was 17 years old (I am now almost 66)!. So it looks like I will have a lot to cover when I finally get back to confession this year. I will make sure to bring a long list going back to 1974 and up to date and to also try to be the last person in the Confession lineup. Or I can break it up into 2 visits interspersing the really bad stuff with the not as bad stuff.
I absolutely love your wonderfully informative videos Ken Yasinski and really enjoyed your guest Fr Cristino with this particular topic. By any chance do you do Zoom Confessions Fr Cristino?🙏 🙄
