Love that you took your time with this video and gave us every detail. It confirmed that this isn’t the cine cam for me, but I loved learning your experience in the real world with real clients.
The Komodo x is the only thing that could make me return to super35. Honestly it’s the only RED I’ve seen worth the price.

Thank you for the long-term review and all the insights on real projects :D As a Sony Hybrid Shooter who has accumulated quite a park of lenses over the past few years, I am quite curious about the Mavo Cameras as they can be ordered with the FE-lens mount. The FX30 is too "small" to be my main production camera and it wouldn't be an upgrade to my A7IV anyway. I am in a weird spot where I either need a proper cinema camera (client work) or just one mirrorless body. I don't have any client work in-between these two ballparks anymore, which is quite nice on the one hand but the gear situation is pretty weird. I like the thought of putting my Sony Zeiss Lenses onto a camera that delivers close-to-arri colors. Thanks again, awesome content man!

    • @CineDailies

Respectfully, the Kinefinity is not equal to the image quality of any RED IMHO. The fact you sold your RED Komodo and purchased a Kinefinity is a trade down I simply don't understand. RedCode RAW has 16 Bit colour science, and this is a difference you can plainly see. I love ProRes, but at best it only goes up to 12 Bit colour space, and when you're doing professional shoots and some of my clients are camera savvy, and will ask what camera you are shooting on, and when you don't say RED, then I find one has to do a whole lot more of a sales job to convince them everything will be OK. Another thing is the high end clients all know the RED look, and they can sure tell the difference between ProRes and RedCode Raw footage. Some clients just want a great image and couldn't care less, but many clients and agencies will ask what camera you're using, and you just can't show up on set with a Mirrorless, or a boutique brand camera.

    • @CineDailies

This comment is really out of touch...sigh.
      1. I've never owned a red
      2. I am a full-time commercial director and DP for Sunny sixteen
      3. Pro res is still wildly used - even in the arri's we've filmed with. Raw is overrated in MOST cases.
      4. I've never been NOT hired for not owning a red. Times have changed, my guy.
      5. I've worked with clients like Walmart, spotify, ford, Natgeo etc. When we're in preproduction we decide the best tool for the vision.
      6. Lighting and set design is WAY more important on set.
I've rolled up on set with a Sony Fx6, Fujifilm Xh2s as well.
But thanks for your assumptions and opinions.

I also wrote that I love ProRes. RAW can't possibly be overrated, since none of your main settings are baked in like it is with ProRes. Exposure and white balance in particular. 4. I've never been not hired for owning a red either, but I have been passed over for work because I didn't shoot with a RED several times. 5. I'm an award winning Canadian Filmmaker. 6.
