Good advice, we've not had a rodent problem in decades doing exactly what you have covered (Que the electronic sound of wood being knocked on). I wish we could find an ultrasonic device above the range of horses. Our tack room has a rodent problem and poison is impractical for the location and traps would require a gauntlet of coverage. Mouse range 200Hz to 90KHz, horse range 55Hz to 33.5KHz, this device (which is likely quite effective) 18KHz to 65KHz. Good video, enjoy your work...
I keep everything whipped down with disinfectant and I store everything in containers that they cannot get into. I stopped keeping food in the stove because they can get inside. I have one large container that I use for bakery products and I have heavy containers for flour, sugar and pancake mix. I have found gnawing marks on the caps but they don’t get anything to eat. The dry dog food is in buckets with screw on lids.
We've had our TT since 2017 and never had a problem with rodents or bugs. It sits in storage a lot of the time because we've had to spend a few years overseas a couple times, but we've lived in it for a weeks to over a month at a time when we're Stateside, in several different areas of the US.. We've just kept it reasonably clean and no food at all inside. I've personally heard from snake experts that snake away is completely useless. Snakes go where there is food (rodents) so keep those out and you should be fine. Brother had an infestation of fire ants in his, but I haven't, luckily. If you're camping where they're prevalent, a lot of people spray around the wheels and jacks to keep them from finding a way inside.
I have my motorhome parked about 70 miles east of CC, TX on rural property. You can use all the gimmicky devices you want, and keep it clean, but mice will get in. If you haven’t seen any evidence of mice, you’re not looking hard enough. I keep snap traps set constantly and check them daily. I catch them, but there are a million more waiting to enter.
I agree with the cleanliness and keeping food away thing, however rodents are attracted to your car truck and RV for other reasons as well. I had my RV in storage brand new, no food, and had a mouse nest in my air cleaner box discovered when I opened in the spring. The mouse had chewed on the air filter element and also the battery cloth insulating blanket. One of my coworkers had his brand-new SUV wiring harness destroyed by a squirrel at his campground. No food under his vehicle, the rodent was attracted to the insolation on the wires. Rodents like our RV's because they provide shelter and darkness, people food or not, they will chow down on the wood, wires, and any silicone spoons and spatulas they can find.
I had mom dad and seven baby rats nesting in the furnace. RV super clean but she needed to nest so they broke in thru front cap and used a whole tissue box for nesting. Anyways I got em all with sticky trap. Roof rats. Interesting couple of day for sure.. I am now a qualified rat terminator.
In my smaller RV I used to have, I had it in my home driveway and somehow about 100 or more houseflies got inside. It was only parked in my driveway for a week as we used it the week before and going out that week again. We were also widening our brick driveway and we had a very small pile of sand left over near the side of the driveway by the RV. Well someone’s cat used that sand as a litter box, attracted all those flies and somehow they ended up inside the camper and everything was shut and locked. Luckily none of the houseflies were alive so it was just a vacuum but they were literally everywhere.
Hi, Thanks for the video. Much appreciated and well done. You mentioned caps for pipe entrance and have a link. Can you let me know? I have a slide out kitchen and unfortunately the pipes in the kitchen have to be able to move but holes are way to big so looking for a solution for those. Thanks again.
Moth balls also deter them. Especially on battery areas of vehicle in the winter since they like to go toward heat and will eat away at wiring harness.
I love and appreciate all your videos, I've become so educated on all things trailer bc of you and I was just wondering if you already have existing videos about slides or slide maintenance??? I know you talk about it a little bit as you tour different trailers, but is there any specific to the different ones? and also yes that would be a good spot for a coffee maker, I always look at my counter top and think that but don't have one bc I don't have a good electric system to be powering it :(((
HOG WASH!!! Keeping your RV clean will help, but if you take your RV into an area where rodents are prevalent, they will get in!!! Maybe food is a bigger deal in warmer states. In colder states, they get into RV’s for shelter and warmth and it has almost nothing to do with food!!!
I plan on keeping my travel trailer on our paved driveway beside the house. Are rodents as much a problem there as they would be on a grassy/crushed stone surface in a field?
Hey JD and co! I have a question about tires. I live in my RV full time, I'm going to be skirting it and possibly setting on blocking which leads to my question. How concerned should I be about my tires getting flat spots and should I set it on blocking like you would do with a park model?
I’m in a seasonal site and my issue has been squirrels getting in and hiding black walnuts everywhere. Now they have never gotten into the “living space” but have found walnuts behind panels and in drawers. I tried tin foil in the holes where water lines, waste lines and electric come in and they shredded it. I tried sonic devices but because they are not coming “inside” the sonic sounds don’t go through the floor and cabinets. I crawled under the RV and found the only place I could find they may be getting in. I used waterproof gorilla tape and sealed those areas up. A week later no walnuts. Not sure I fixed the problem yet since I had a week prior of no walnuts when I sprayed around the rv and the next week walnuts again. So time will tell. Any other suggestions for squirrels?
Just wondering how your systems are working on keeping rodents out thus far. We will be living in our RV until house is built and it will be near a farm. I hate rodents and bugs and so far I have been able to keep them out. Worried about being next to farm. I know you are parked next to field.
How to get rid of rodents if you have them already I ask because or RV has been in storage for over a year now can you please help me with that thank you God bless.
Must lure them out. I wouldn't recommend bait traps since they will likely die in an area you can't get to. Also, banging around with a stick, loud noises and things that they don't like to smell would help. Even taking your RV to an area away from your storage and doing all that stuff to drive them out and then returning.
I know mice can get through a 1/4” crack or hole. So if an RV has a underbelly, wheel wells, slides, and leveling system why aren’t any gaps 1/4” or bigger sealed up? You would think RV manufacturers would address the obvious.
Ours had mice when we got it (inherited from a family member) and we figured out that they came in where the wiring passed through the floor. The manufacturer hadn't done a thorough job with the expanding foam, so we closed the gap with rodent-repellent foam. We trapped them, did a thorough clean, and we haven't had a problem since (fingers crossed.)
I always hear the claim that mice can get through a 1/4" opening. I've yet to actually see proof of an adult/full grown mouse actually fitting in an opening that small. Perhaps baby mice can, but even then, they would have to be insanely small. th-cam.com/video/iGXYZwZEZa0/w-d-xo.html
@@BTBRVReviews That is a good video of mice trying to get through several different holes. So, okay maybe mice can’t through a 1/4” hole, but RVs should be sealed up so a mouse or rat can’t even get in. My guess is that they could get in through the leveling jacks hole some how, or through the wheel well area into the slides somehow. Anyway I’d have every crack sealed up so mice or rats could get in.
Even in the college dorms to my 5er now, I never understood how some people could be so filthy. I'll've moments of weakness but some people just do nothing at all. There are literal pig pens cleaner than some peoples' homes and trailers.
Yes clean RV, might want to check out the rodent channel, many of these items you mention have been proven a hoax or old wife’s tail. I learned a lot from the channel about all these items are not effective
Sure about that? Does wonders with the rodents out here. In all fairness, random noise in general may not kick rodents out but just deters them from specific spaces..... Pretty much exactly what I stated in this video. Then again, if you have food everywhere that is exposed to rodents, they will get brave and risk it just for the food..... So....
Reminds me of the episode of All In The Family when Archie buys a tape recording of a barking dog to ward off burglars.

I bought an Ozone machine and use it once every 2 weeks or sometimes once a month. So far so good.
I keep everything whipped down with disinfectant and I store everything in containers that they cannot get into. I stopped keeping food in the stove because they can get inside. Good information on cleaning…need to put on my check list.

Sometimes rodents will come inside to get out of weather regardless of how clean you keep it.

I've heard that rodents are also attracted to wiring, perhaps due the the kind of coating used to insulate them.
We have found that bars of Irish Spring soap will keep the mice away as they are not attracted to the scent.
I would say this is effective. I was feeding my cat and when those bird of prey noises came on he ran like his life depended on it!

I usually use dryer sheets and moth balls when I close up and never had a problem
Have you done a video on gross weight percentages?
Squirrels are bad when you boondock. I make sure all points were critters can come in are filled with steel wool and spray foam.

Food was one of many things I mentioned in this video.

My husky catahoula and shepard husky does the job well on the 2 acer property. Sure they will keep the rv rodant free on the road.

In north east they move in and bring in their own food!
Even if it 100% clean, rvs left outside will eventually attract nesting mice/rats. Need to keep RVs in a closed shop.
Would this be harmful to dogs or cats?
Don't think so. Our dog only reacts to the bird sounds.
I wonder if this will keep raccoons away 🤔
A barking dog does not keep rodents out
