I had a horse ❤❤ 18:04 v
Do love borses❤❤❤❤
Several years ago I had a mare who was recovering from an injury. As part of the therapy the Vet instructed me to take her for 2 to 3 20 to 30 minute walks, not rides, a day. For my own sake I would just take her for walks on the trail rather than walk her in patterns around the barn area. That way the walks didn't become boring to me. When we'd get back to the barn I'd do some gentle ground work so she didn't get relief as soon as we got home. I was happily surprised at how well she adjusted to not being bothered about being on the trail alone after a couple of weeks of this. She is still the easiest horse I have to ride away from home that I have.
This is a very effective concept when thinking about horse psychology. Pressure around the other horse = inconvenient, stressful, bad, he then understands: okay it's way more relaxed when i'm away from my buddy.
I "think" this (or something like it) is what was done to my one gelding before I owned him but it was done to such an extent that he hates being around other horses. He will do it if you ask him to and won't be a jerk about it but first chance he gets he will go somewhere where he doesn't have to see or be near the other horses. He also won't whinny back if another horse whinnys at him but he will whinny at me when he sees me and he is out in the pasture. It's actually super nice because I mostly ride alone and he really really prefers to ride alone. The only explanation I have for it is that at some point in his life he was taught that being alone is much preferred to being around other horses.
My first life time pony was like this, could never put any animal with him in his "territory".
If only the breeders who weaned their foals with poor methods (weaning too early, isolating a foal in a stall etc), could understand how badly they screw up the horse's mind, sometimes for the rest of its life. Horses with extreme separation anxiety can cause a lot of damage to themselves, to people, to fences, pastures, stalls, equipment. If you breed horses, please wean at an appropriate age (closer to 8 months, not 4), please give the foal known companions, in fact never keep young horses under 2 years old alone. It is very detrimental to them. They need a herd.
My foal self weaned at 2! Lol
4 to 6 months is appropriate. Your creating a non independent horse at 8 months
@@mistiquefire3462 6 months is Ok. In my experience though, a little later is better and more in line with nature. I bred and raised a few foals over the years as a hobby, and they were all weaned between 8 and 9 months, by putting them in a paddock with a mare they knew, and other weanlings. They were all level-headed, easy to train and none of them had severe separation anxiety like the horse in this video
I have been watching your ground work videos on patreon to try and touch base on those with Tanner again, as well to make it easier on me to work on this. I need to get myself out more often in this heat to work with him! Thanks again for having us and showing me how to work on this with Tanner 😊
You have a fine pair of horses ,,and i really enjoyed your vlog with Ryan , he must have helped so many people enjoy and be safer with their horses ,all over the world .,i really admire his way of working ,,
My Mum used to breed and train ,especially other peoples problem horses ,, ive been on them since i was two ..and we never had a made pony in our lives ,every one she did the ground work but we backed and schooled them until they were good childrens ponies ,,everyday a riding/ managment lesson ,,
We showjumped and where Very sucessful ,,mum always said every winning round had been achieved by ground work ,,not by the jumping , Ryan is soooo exceptional in that he really shows the ABC of training ,rather than just showing off what his top horses are doing ..he really is showing the way to true horsemanship,,and connection ,,,,
People used to ask my Mum " what do you teach your ponies ,,?" Her reply was " to do whatever i ask them to do"😊,,and Ryan will show you how to have a horse like that ,,❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
@julzhepburn3688 thank you! I agree. That's what I appreciate about having Ryan around. His videos helped a lot when I first got Diesel. Tanner has such poor ground manners because when I was given him, he already knew how to be ridden, and at that time I didn't know much besides how to ride! That's why him and I are playing catch up now with ground work.
@@Riding_RogueI think Diesel deserves a round of applause for being "the straight man" in this video.😄
@melanies.6030 haha I appreciate that! He's got a great personality
@@Riding_RogueSo are things improving for you with Tanner now? Is he getting better, less anxious, able to be on his own more without fussing & fretting; less bolting/rushing off galloping when you ride him? I admire your persistence in trying to work through this. He certainly is a beautiful horse!
Thank you for letting this training be filmed & shown.❤❤
PS. I don’t know when this was filmed before being shown, so you may not have had much time to work with Tanner on this yet.
I’m sure glad you have Diesel to rely on for an enjoyable, worry free riding experience. Diesel certainly behaved very well in this video 💓
Those are two of the most beautiful horses I have ever seen! 🥰🥰🥰 Lucky you, Avery!
That's one of the prettiest horses I've ever. They're all beautiful though. ❤
Right?!?? Gorgeous!
I agree
I agree totally. Love both of them. My dream horses but without the messing around. lol
It's always a great day when Ryan posts. Love your content 👍
Yesssss!!
Tanner is a beautiful horse!! I'm glad to see Ryan work with him.
I agree
That was excellent, nice to see the adjustment of strategy as you evaluated Tanner’s response. At the end he actually dropped his head a ‘little’, brought his head around check you out, then seemed to relax a bit, moved his ears back toward you, indicating to me he was going to pay attention to you more! Shifted his alliance maybe. He is stiff, more suppling would help him physically.
To me its a great example of "choose where you work / choose where you rest"...
Do what I did, get a third horse.
Then another horse, then another and another,
eventually, the horses don't care if one is gone. ha ha
ha ha ha ha exactly!!
😂
Now that’s a good plan hope hubbys on board 😅
Doesn't always work 😂 we have a herd of 6 and directly beneath them are two more herds of 4 and 5 and one horse that still gets nervous and starts calling if only one is missing. 😂
Hehehe...
OMG THANK YOU!! This is my horse ROY in the Middle East! We got him sorted when he was with his trainer and boarding in Texas and then he regressed when I shipped them over to the Middle East
Very interesting to see the same basic principles you use all the time applied in a bit of a different situation. Cool.
Also, what a gorgeous horse! I suspect they're common but Ive never seen a buckskin paint before! And such interesting markings!
I now have a buddy sour horse and am looking forward to trying this out, I've tried making her uncomfortable on the trail but she can get dangerous and start backing up into trees and underbrush. I don't ride with spurs but I may have to try it. So far I'm experienced enough to not get thrown off, no horse is getting rid of me that easy.
More comfortable in the parasympathetic NS. Sympathetic is fight or flight.😊
Respect, you bought Janana back. Such a pretty horse ❤
Excellent strategies!
Still struggling to help my horse with separation anxiety leaving home in the trailer alone.
He loads fine. It is the physical separation when driving away.
I like the way you work with horse 🐎 Nanette
I've seen worse :-)
Beautiful horse! I had one that behaved the same way. He was imprinted as a foal. It can get better, but will take time.
Ryan Rose Rules!!
Good job
This was very helpful. 😊
I have the same problem, but it’s usually when I have to bring the horse away who has the nervous behaviour. When I need to do something with him (dental work for example) that is an issue. Is this meant to correct things like that? He won’t pay attention to me or the care provider when he is away from his pasture mate.
Rayn I rode my horse 🐎 and I'm doing great with my horse and I'm working on my confidence Nanette
Ryan, question? When you walked away the first time, it looked like he was not connected to her.or was it just me.
Notice how he was walking into her space as well.
Ennis Del mar and Jack Twist in another universe.
OMG! My horses heard the hollering on the video and it got the whole barn screaming. I have 3 that are herd bound to each other. It's horrid!
What is herd bound?
Question, Ryan: Are you saying to leave the halter on even when you aren't around, or just when you are working with them?
Mr Tanner is like Misses Cravats on Bewitched.
Into eveybodys business
They're beautiful horses but I can't help but notice their saddles are kinda loose?
Of course they don’t like being separated they naturally feel secure in a herd
I like your content, even though I only know dogs😅
Is it true that senior horses get more herd anxiety due to age (not see as well, not hear as well, less agile/strong, rely on the herd for danger alerts, fear of being left behind in the wild, etc)?
He doesn't answer questions on here
Have you ever had a horse that you couldn't fix?
👍🏻👍🏻
I really don't see how this stopped the proublem.
The idea is your friend = work, being away from friends is relax time.
I would gather this girl only brings her horse out at a race. Only lopes circles, that’s why it’s go go go.
Why are they wearing boots? I’ve never seen that.
Looks like fly boots
Yep, they keep the flies off. Just a mesh fly boot that help a lot.
fly boots
@@renewyourmind1815 thank you
Yep, fly boots. I work ride my mare in them because she's got a lot of allergies to em, lol
Parasympathetic
poor thing suffering without his friend 😭😭😭
For the owners and riders safety, this horse MUST be taught to work without his friend!
Can you train horses like (Turner Performance Horses llc ) does. Their horses will actually follow you around. And let you ride them without a bridle. Some of them sell for over $2000k .
But you never reply to people who watch your video's.
Typical sports equestrian…it’s too hard and too much effort to make the horse as rounded as it can possibly be, my ego just needs it to be trained enough to deliver the results I want round the barrels (in her particular case)
These types do my nut in because they can’t see that they’ll get even better results by doing the extra work on the ground.
The echo in the audio is very annoying. I'm clicking OUT.
the audio only echoes when he and the girl stand close together because their microphones record double. It's only an issue for about a minute. The video is pretty interesting stuff!
@@cowboyk1sser I clicked out the moment it started to annoy me, so I didn't see the later part. There are LOTS of OTHER horse videos I can watch without the audio problems.
@@cathynewyork7918 fair enough you do you! just wanted to mention that in case that small part of the video would make you miss out on content that could otherwise be very helpful to you. Have a nice day!
@@cowboyk1sser There are OTHER videos which do NOT have annoying sound - so I'm not missing out on content - many others have content as well without having annoying sound, so I moved on.
The bully boy is at it again.
People stop buying junk horses, untrained that can kill you. Buy one from a trainer like >> (Turner Performance Horses llc) . I have nothing to do with them. But I do know they have trained horses that also sell around $20k. But at least you get what you pay for.
It is basically a re-hash of weaning a mare and foal. The reaction is pretty much the same with the panic, fussing and calling. One problem is I've found a horse that behaves like this with one horse will just find another buddy if kept with other horses. So it can end up a never-ending problem in a few cases.
Absolutely! They latch on to the next willing horse. I have one myself. Its worth putting in the work otherwise it's a nightmare. No pun intended.😊
Great success! I love seeing all the strategies and the general concept.👍🐴
Wow, I never had drama weaning. I guess I was lucky with calm kid broke mares. We weaned with an older been there done that mare who refused to let the foal(s) nurse and continued to discipline but give security as well. The momma never fretted.
@patlindsay538 you did it correctly letting the mare push the foal away slowly. Most people just rip them way. Pretty sure my mare was weaned that way. Ripped away from mother at an early age.
I saw a weeks old foal and mother at an auction. The winning bidder separated the baby and sold him off that moment.
I only have two, so it's going to work out great. Thanks, Ryan 😊

My horse Jake was like this too. Turns out, he had cataracts. I still worked with him, but after he saw the vet again for continuing to have melt downs, it turns out he is now going blind. His pupils are fixed and dilated, has glaucoma in both eyes.
I kinda wish these horses were having a more complicated day during these lessons because those are the times one needs more tools in the tool box. She even said he’s broken out of stalls before.
That is two very Well build horses this lady have 😊
If I'm with my mare she is fine but if I leave her or other people are tring to calm her that's a big fat no
Handsome boy!!! I’m sure he’ll be good soon. Great job to both.
Aaaahhh that's an interesting one ! There is a horse where I ride who is completely panicking when saddled alone so we have a bring a friendo with him. He s fine alone while working, but in the stall it's like we are gonna kill him or abandon him somehow, so he is moving all the fucking timeeeeee, shitting every 30 seconds from stress and calling his friends. Weirdly he is an awesome horse under the saddle or with other horses, and is really well trained, but god, he s a big baby !!!! PS : On the video the horses are really well taken care of, they are beautiful and the 16 years old horse looks younger ! Well done !
Great video!
Thanks Ryan
I love how as soon as he's alone he pees and poops XD
Is there a way to address separation anxiety without having another horse? My girl is horribly buddy sour but she's my only one, so I don't have another horse to use (we board and I have to go at weird times due to my work schedule)
This horse is really pretty.
Thanks for this! My old appy has some pretty bad separation anxiety that's gotten much worse with his age - I think because he has cataracts and can't see as well, he gets more anxious more quickly. I'm looking forward to trying out a version of this. ^^
All the flies and she still has to have a tail bag on that horse. I know it has several little fringes on the bottom but that’s nothing compared to what their tails do. Cmon people. Please, at the very least, allow your horse to have their tail to swat flies during fly swatting season. 😐
This is why I use a Tail Boot. It comes with attachable swishers that are thickers and you can double them up to make it thicker. My boys are used to them.
@@NeuroSpiceEQ Why do you feel the need to do this? Tails are the perfect natural weapon against flies and other bugs. There's absolutels zero necessity to put a damn bag around it. Are you really so stupid to say "no, i don't need nature to do its job, i want an artifical thing to replace natures work." This is so dumb... unbelievable.
Maybe teach her some better lead rope handling skills.
Wow I don’t have an horse but I get most of my knowledge and understanding from watching you interact with the horses and their owners ❤😊
What is the official color of Tanner? Does anyone know? He's in good hands with Ryan.
Looks like a buckskin tobiano
the buckskin is sore somewhere. stands camped under front and back
👍🏻
Thanks
Please tell that lady not to put that lead rope on her shoulder know of a woman that was killed when horse took off and strangled her
Very good lesson. Thanks Ryan.
Thx❤❤❤
Recently I took my horse into the arena and my other horse neighed and my horse reared up and I broke my nose and it was not fun I them fell off and played there until I was able to get up, thank you for this video
Tanner's boots don't look right. You might wanna check them. Does he even need them for this?
When practicing seperation would you reccomend tying or locked in the stall . i have both
So interesting! Love watching your processes.
Great video, can really see the difference between where he started and where you finished. Avery has a couple of really cool horses.
Sidebar question, why tail bag when alot of flies?
That horse is stunning
Very interesting!
Hey Ryan can you y pls pin me love your videos
LOVELY horses. Why don’t you use fly spray?
He’s not swatting at flies, he’s pissed cuz his buddy is not available.
Even when you use fly spray, it's not 100% effective. I'm sure they fly sprayed the horses as a matter of course. You can't expect them to work and learn when they're uncomfortably bothered by flies. Sometimes the flies are just impervious.
@@cathiwimNo, it's flies.
I use both and just one or the other wont always work. Oftentimes theyll sweat off the fly spray as well. Having both doesnt hurt anything, given you're making sure the boots dont have any debris in them.
God bless you to keep doing what you are doing to help to keep the owners and you and others safe too Ryan rose
Love sickness cannot be fixed and you know that. It's time people realized that.
THAT IS NOT ENOUGH DISTANCE YOU SHOULD RIDE OUT OF THE ROUND PIN !!!!! NOT A GOOD EXAMPLE !!!! BOO !!!!!
What are you screeching about?
You got to do it in increments. If you just rip the scared horse too far away too fast they don't learn that separation is safe and they can calm down, they learn that separation is intolerably scary and that they need to fight harder. This is a 30min video of a day of training, I think it's more to just teach how you'd help this horse than show the entire process. You'd have to continue to work with him and probably do greater and greater separation with time
